    Honestly, yes DJ hasn’t been surrounded with good players. But not all of them were that bad tho. The OL is bad but when given a chance he either hold it for a sack or stare at an open receiver and then throw a pick. Sometimes I wonder if he learned from his rookies years. He plays like a rookie at times. Maybe it’s just bad coaching or play calls. This year team will be the best he ever played with. Plus Daboll calling the plays for him. This might be a pro bowl year for DJ. Hopefully he stays healthy. I expect him to play better, but if not Tommy really can make an impact for an undrafted QB. He came in the same mess and ran the offense.

    Your take isn’t valid, you looked at one game and then looked at stats. I’ve watched every game of Daniel’s jones since he got into the league and his best year in 2022 was with 3rd string wide receivers and barely an offensive line. Granted last year he wasn’t great but his ceiling is very high in my opinion. Going on his third year with Brian Daboll, getting a true #1 WR and hopefully them cleaning up the offensive line in free agency. We can take this team very far with DJ. • @Stereocascade
    @Stereocascade 5 месяцев назад +3

    @ 5:36 Something I noticed watching the game live is the feed cut over to Daboll reaming DJ out on the sideline after the play and you can see him say "You had Waller open." If you look at the all-22 film for that pick six play, you'll see that Darren Waller is indeed open in the back of the endzone. This is one of DJ's worst habits: he stares down his reads, and as you say, makes his decision before the ball is even snapped. It's so bad that Nick Bosa called it out directly the week the Giants played the 49ers.
    I don't know how much processing at the line of scrimmage and post-snap can be learned, but playing behind a shitty o-line and having shell shock certainly doesn't help. DJ's failings as a QB are a confluence of issues, but this is one of his biggest shortcomings imo. Saying this as a Giants fan who has been supportive of DJ but realistic about his capabilities.

    • @maaliemaal1373
      @maaliemaal1373 5 месяцев назад +6

      What you didn’t see or know is that Paris Campbell ran the wrong route…
      Waller was deeper in his progression and being that he was getting killed up front it only made sense for him to try to get rid of the ball quickly
      Daboll has admitted that when people do these breakdowns that they don’t know the play or progression. So yes Waller was breaking open but that doesn’t negate the wrong route being ran and the horrible Oline play 🙏

    • @Stereocascade
      @Stereocascade 5 месяцев назад +1

      @maaliemaal1373 that's a great distinction, easy to look at it from a 30,000 ft view and say that Waller was open. I think the point stands though that DJ does have a tendency to lock onto his first read, but I can acknowledge that could be due to playing behind a bad o-line for years and inherently lacking trust in your protection.

    Question: how many mistakes does he make that are related to the bad team around him? I know, this question can't be answered with a definite answer, so all we have is a gut instinct. Mine tells me this play has been adversely affected by the team around him. He can still improve but it will depend on his O-line protecting him with some consistency. At this point, he may be a broken QB, so it may not matter. He has an injury history and mentally he appears to be skittish in the pocket, looking to check down too quickly or unload the ball before he gets hit. Let's hope this season finally answers some questions about him, but they will only be answered if the O-line can block for him.

    Since you're into PFF grades, take a look at the grades of his O-line last season.
    Then, you'll have the answer to who Jones is and who Jones can be.
    If the line blocks in the top half of the league- which has NEVER happened, they've been 30th or worse 4 or 5 yrs, 17th his rookie year- then Jones will look like an elite QB.
    Period.

  • @JerseyGuys75
    @JerseyGuys75 5 месяцев назад

    The problems are, as you stated, fascinating. The talent is certainly present but the recent inconsistency for the Giants as an organization, which is unusual hasn't helped his development. Jones is playing for his 3rd head coach and third different offense, in the last 4 seasons which would be hard for any signal-caller. When Gettleman drafted Jones 6th overall in the 2019 Draft it was a reach but he WAS selected so the Giants have to manage the situation. Jones ceiling is likely as a good, not great quarterback and he likely will not be under center when this rebuild, and it is a rebuild, on the fly if you will, is complete but he will be a decent starter or good backup on another team. I'm not in love with the idea of running a lot of RPO with Jones being his propensity for injury. The quagmire offensively is that Jones is more effective making plays outside the pocket on the move executing outside of the offense so your assessment of system fit for this player is logical but the risk of injury for an injury prone guy is, well, risky. Bottom line, he is likely not our guy in the distant future and I can't wait for Schoen and Daboll to identify THEIR guy and run Daboll's offensive with THEIR hand picked QB and not Gettleman's. Ending comment, the Giants MUST eventually move on from Danny Dimes.

    Have we seen the best of Jones yet? He hasn't a good offensive line yet or a good WR core. Looking at what he's getting paid, give him a supporting cast like Dak, Jalen, Geoff, Purdy, etc. have we might see him take it to another level.

    Before the video starts, I’m just hear to say that I want to is guy to change my mind on my thoughts on Jones.
    Not moved. The same issues I remember watching live are still there.. you can see Hyatt running wide open on the 3rd and 11 play on the seam, instead he checks it down and misses the throw.. the problem is that he doesn’t see the field as well as he should. Yes he can be mobile and yes you get the occasional sliding up in the pocket wheel route to Brieda but I think too often he makes the pre determination that he’s throwing a certain way and that’s the result of the pick six. It’s frustrating as hell to watch because he has brief flashes of awesome qb play but he’s just way too inconsistent and I find myself hold my breathe everytime he drops back to pass.

    • @zograf4572
      @zograf4572 5 месяцев назад +2

      He doesnt see the field because he is always watching the rush. He is gotten used to being hit from behind all the time so its always in his head. Thats what happened with Eli the last third of his career. You need to account for those mental things. If you have the worst o-line in football for almost a decade that will ruin your QB no matter what his name is.

    • @yepdontcarebud
      @yepdontcarebud 5 месяцев назад

      @@zograf4572he has an all pro LT protecting his blindside, Eli had to deal with basically Evan Neal on each side.
      Stop comparing them, one is a HOF 2x super bowl winner, the other is the worst starting QB in the modern era and will be forgotten in 10 years. Reconcile that in your head now, and save yourself the pain and dissapointment.

      you look at what he doesn't do well, but what can change is a better team around him. You can't tell me that if Giants had the OL, and WR core that Dallas Philly, 49ers, Lions, Atlanta, Tampa, Rams, Chicago, Vikings, Seahawks, and Packers Jones wouldn't be putting up better numbers than most of those QBs on those teams with rhe talent they have. I just name the NFC, only two 3 team have a worse situation Panthers, Washington, and Arizona.

    The reality is the Giants have been a complete mess from top to bottom for years. So let’s look at what DJ has done.. nothing fantastic which in order to truly succeed here he would need to be Mahomes and let’s be honest if Mahomes is drafted by the Giants he isn’t Mahomes today. That said jones has done far more than he is given credit for. In 2022 he took a team with 1 good o-lineman and 4 garbages with a WR core that featured its top wideout being a guy who began the season on a different teams practice squad. A guy who started on the Giants practice squad and a WR3 who now couldn’t get off the Chiefs practice squad. Seriously?? That’s the best you could give the dude.. and he’s supposed to be your most prized asset?? Yet that team won a playoff game. Does Dak when a playoff game with that team? Lawrence?? Tua??? I think we all know the answer.

      You cannot sit here and tell me with a straight face that Richie James and Hodgins are better than Slayton, Wan'dale and Waller...advanced stats are everywhere showing those guys get separation and more video of Jones not throwing it to wide open guys, not giving his wrs 1 on 1 chances, staring down receivers and bailing from clean pockets.
      The narrative that he doesn't have time to throw vertically is lazy, weak and flat wrong....If he has time to pump-fake at it,he has time to throw it and he doesn't....he stopped...he's gunshy, he's ruined

    Jones is a 3rd string QB. 6 years and he still has no pocket presence nor can he read a defence. As a qb he has no desire to motivate the team, he never has. It's 3 and out and let's go sit on the bench without talking to anybody and watch all of the mistakes you just made.

      The Giants will always have a bad primetime record. They're from a huge market with a large fan base so the networks crowbar them into more primetime games than their talent level would call for. If you look back you'll notice on years they don't seem too promising those night games tend to come early in the season when there's still hope. Nobody wants them playing Sunday night with a 4 and 7 record.

    Of course there is the bought and paid for high profile experts, trying to tout him...and the rest just laugh at DJ.
    At his VERY best, Daniel Jones can follow instructions and minimize mistakes for a very mediocre showing...ie 2022.
    NO MORE...now that defenses know how to push Danny's "stupid button"...he's toast!

    Improving the line? They brought in two proven vets and have put them both out of position...WTF?
    WRs do NOT elevate QBs...QBs elevate WRs.
    If the o-line does pan out, I would like to see what Devito can do with some viable outlets...the man exceeded expectations and showed he has potential. Same team same year...Dan the Bust showed he got nuttin.

      I remember the late great George Young saying that the public asks for a QB change whenever things don't go well but it's almost always a bad idea because the coaches work with the QBs on a daily basis, know them inside and out, and picked the starter because he's just a better QB. Now you want get rid of the guy they thought enough of to give a $160 million dollar contract and start a guy they don't even trust to be the back-up (hence, Drew Lock).

    Yes i hope he runs more, better chance to get a backup in there that can get the ball downfield. And if he hangs in the pocket and makes plays, gets us to the playoffs on his arm not dabolls gimmick offense, then he'll finally do what he was drafted and resigned to do.
