i used to watch your videos in my dpdr time now i am 100 per recovered life feels great again everyone who is goin through it stay calm and be healthy focus on more important things in life it wil pass i promise
Delighted to hear you're doing so well! 😊
After recovery dpdr will be like nothing for you. You will remember those days of suffering from dpdr. But those days will make you realise that you are a Fighter and you never lose hope. After a full recovery you will become better version of yourself because you will learn to face problems in your life.
Well said -- You can and will get 100% back to normal 😊 www.dpmanual.com/articles/back-to-normal-after-depersonalization/
May I ask did u experience not to know urself in the mirror?
@@mennayasser3675 Don’t worry, feeling like you can't recognize yourself in the mirror is super common with DPDR. I know these experiences can be frustrating but they will fade away and stop as you recover 😊 www.dpmanual.com/about/do-i-have-depersonalization-disorder/
Couldn’t have said it better myself. I’ve been experiencing it for like 4.5 years now but it is getting a lot better. I used to think to myself “I should have never smoked that weed” but now I think it’s a good thing in a way. It’s made me be able to live through a challenge and has actually made me a lot stronger
Yes but why i feel like i will never recover , i’m really trying my best . What did u do for recovering?
I am recovered, 3 months without any symptom! I just want to ask something, sometimes I feel bad because I had dpdr for 6 months and I lost many important moments, I was obsessed over it and it made me feel very bad. But well… that’s life.
Stay good people and keep your mind occupied and don’t worry about dpdr
My question is, do you have any recommendation accept that I had it? I mean I know I was doing things wrong but now I try to see it as something not as bad as it was and I need some advice
Thank you Shaun! You were very important during recovery
I'm very glad to hear you're doing so well 😊 And to answer your question: You haven't actually 'lost' any important moments, it's just that anxiety made it temporarily difficult to be present in those moments. but that's ok 😊 Part of recovery is understanding the condition, why it happened, why it was only ever a defensive mechanism and you were never really in danger. Accepting that helps us to stop worrying about the experience and let it go ❤️ www.dpmanual.com/articles/back-to-normal-after-depersonalization/
You saved my life

funny that recently I found a music/video that is EXACTLY about the 5 second rule - Free by Florence + The Machine. it's much more common than we think. Even Post Malone talked about having DP/DR after bad drug experiences in an interview. the thing is, YOU'RE NOT ALONE!
I've struggled with it twice and about 98% today in my recovery. it's almost impossible to think how I felt before my recovery journey.
Oh wow, I hadn't seen that video before, it's fantastic! 👏❤️

Hi Shaun two months ago I got severe dpdr after taking antibiotics due to heightened anxiety like never before. While im still working on my mental symptoms of anxiety my DPDR disappeared after a month of religiously following your advice, it got me over an obstacle i thought i would never get over. Recovery is pushing through the uncomfortable feelings, detaching yourself from your thoughts and fears cause thats what anxiety uses to live and focusing on the stuff you love, even if its hard t enjoy it while having intense symptoms. It does get better guys even if it feels like its the end of the world its not. Thank you so much Shaun

Hi Shaun. We met (video call) in early 2020. It’s back to the manual again for me. But your video really encouraged me today.
Shaun, I am here to express my gratittude to your work, I overcomed this episode of my life, it was so difficult, I was suffering all the time. in my case it last 5 months or 6 maybe and I was sad sometimes after being recovered because of the fear of it coming back to my life but it didnt because I undestood what it was and how to deal with it in a positive way, now I am a happy person who enjoy life, have many friends and see the expiernce of DP/DR as something sad but happy of being capable to overcome it. now I have a great challenge that is to go to the big city to study medicine career I am a bit scared but I will make everything to be okay. So when you do have it for 24/7 and it’s DR how do you constantly forget about or engage in something else? As life tasks and activists aren’t as engaging as say a video game or movie? For instance driving, shopping, dinner with kids, dealing with kid meltdowns, date nights, work meetings, gym? My DR is constant and unrelenting even when I’m just chilling with kids and family. I’m sensitive to any stimulus - people trigger it massively! Noise and lights and sound. Twenty years of this despite like David, very high functioning and quite successful so it’s a mystery to others who see me as very confident and brave and bold. Please help! I feel nothing is helping me enough…

Unable to break this feedback loop. 😢
Okay I need to know more about this manual because I've had this for 43 years and it is breaking through even though I'm on medication and I'm about ready to go crazy I do not like this it's causing me depression and twitches in my head I have such a high level of anxiety that everything makes me nervous and when this happens all I can do is focus on it

Ive been suffering with this since i was 9 im 31 now, after my first beating of my father amd watching him beat my mother and me trying to jump on top of her to protect her, i got jumped when i had my son, and they took my teeth out for smiling and being happy, after that everyone is a villain to me except my family...
Funny enough, watching TikTok or RUclips helps me. A few funny cat videos and I feel okay again.
Yep, distraction can be that easy! 😊
Hi I have had depersonalisation before which faded due to me accepting and being strong however I developed it again. I’m not sure why and i often get scared that I will recover and experience it again. This time feels different as I have already started to accept the feelings but I can’t seem to ignore my thoughts. I’m holding my self back as the number 1 question I ask myself is that how can I recover by ignoring the thoughts and letting them go because what if I forget about it but I will eventually remember it again. I also have this fear that what if I forget about it and depersonalisation switches off but I randomly remember it and it comes back. Do people who recover think back to the symptoms and feel it again? Sorry to burden you but please can u help me make sense of this.
Currently back in dpdr after recovering for a few years after back to back panic attacks and I’m currently feeling very disconnected from my body, personality, and unable to recognize myself at all. I also feel strong physical symptoms that I don’t exist especially when standing or moving . I’m reading your book now and I do feel very hopeful for my recovery given the techniques. Is there anything you recommend to help?
Don't worry Graham, you can and will recover 😊 Follow the rules in the book carefully and completely for as long as is necessary and allow yourself time to recover. You'll soon start to see even more positive results 😊
Also when you are experiencing dpdr is it normal to question life and your existence? Or also obsessing over your health physically like getting hung up over scrape n your arm or something is this normal and will it go away with the dpdr?
Don’t worry Hansen, existential / intrusive thoughts like that are super common with DPDR. I know they can be frustrating and frightening but they are also temporary and harmless and will fade away and stop as your recovery continues 😊 www.dpmanual.com/articles/depersonalization-fears-and-anxious-thoughts/
Are you glad you went through dpdr or do you regret it? (Even though you didn’t choose it if course)
Also in the video you say that in those 5 seconds that is what recovery feels like. In those 5 seconds what if you are still experiencing the other side affects like brain fog that doesn’t go away in the 5 seconds, do the side affects stay after recovery?
When you recover does it feel like it never even happened?
Yes, recovery means getting 100% back to normal 😊www.dpmanual.com/articles/back-to-normal-after-depersonalization/
Hi Shaun! I've experienced depersonalization for about 7 months now. I will buy your manual to get more feedback about how to deal with this. However, my doctor recently advised me to consider antidepressants short-term, as a way to lower my stress levels and then start working on the core issue. Since they had zero clue about the term "depersonalization", I want to ask you if you think antidepressants can fck with my recovery?
I understand AD never solves anything, just lower certain symptoms. But I don't want to take anything in case there is any risk of it screwing with my DP.
Much love, Jon.

Hi, so a week ago it got really bad, where first it was physical symptoms and i could fix that, the DPDR was there but i was able to put that at ease, and know i was going to get better. Anyways, 7 days ago i started to not feel anything physically - i mean i did abit. But it was mainly mentally... i feel so out of it, different, i feel very weird, it doesnt feel like it use to - it feels bad and worse, i feel weak - i dont recognise anything, outside feels like a dream, and everything is awkward. Even being in my room and lying in my bed, on the kitchen bench - listening to people talk whilst their voices echo, and i feel like i am in another world. Man this feels so bad, no matter how many times i tell myself I AM FINE. Ive gotten so many tests done, literally went to the hospital again 7 days ago when I first felt like this, WELL, NORMAL, EVERYTHING NORMAL. Yes i am grateful, but i feel trapped, like i am going crazy and i am going to have a psychiatric episode - which I know I AM NOT. I cant get this to go now, everyday - every minute- every second. I am so scared, i please need some reassurance or something. Am i stuck with this forever? Why do i feel very sick, like something is wrong with my brain now, no matter what i touch, do or say. I need help :(
Hey, thanks for your comment 😊 I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com and my book The Depersonalization Manual.
And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍
@@Dpmanual thank you for your message, it made me feel abit better. So do you think that no matter how bad someone's anxiety is and how many symptoms, or how severe they feel. They can fully recover?

You say when you don’t think about dpdr for 5 seconds you are recovered during that time. But simply not thinking about the symptoms doesn’t mean they are not there. They are still there but I just managed to think about something else while still experiencing them.
that's a logic fail, for you to notice symptoms at all you have to actively think about them where else would they exist, DPDR is essentially a state of mind and the symptoms only exist in your head, if you manage to think about something else completely even if for half a second, there is no logic in you noticing symptoms, focus divertion is the best for this
@@gangstasmotivation dude that is completely false. It’s like saying the moon doesn’t exist when you don’t look at it. Whether you think about it or not you are still depersonalized but its true that actively thinking about it feeds into the anxiety which enforces the symptoms
@@Warrior12478 the moon is a physical object / would be a physical problem, with DPDR there is nothing physical about it at all, if you play a video game with DPDR and suddenly get excited for 1 second from some loot you got, you just experienced recovery completely in that 1 second, it is just incredibly hard to extend the period but possible
@@Warrior12478 the only reason you experience any symptom is focusing on it, eye floaters? focusing on them. going crazy? thinking youre going crazy. I don't feel real? you think you dont feel real
@@gangstasmotivation my example of the moon is conceptual. If you dont think about your symptoms it doesn’t mean they aren’t there it just means you managed to distract yourself enough from them. Dpdr is not a thought that disappears from your mind, its a state of nervous system overwhelm/dysregulation.
Hi. When a person's emotions are dulled, is this also depersonalization? My life has stopped being bright. I can understand my emotions in my mind, but I don't feel them well. I've been suffering from this for over 10 years.
Don’t worry, feelings like that (dulled emotions etc) are super common with DPDR. I know they can be frustrating but they will fade away and stop as you recover 😊 www.dpmanual.com/about/do-i-have-depersonalization-disorder/
@@Dpmanual If a person does not experience all the signs of depersonalization, then does he have a weak degree of depersonalization?
@@Dpmanual Will depersonalization disappear only if a person finds the cause of anxiety that causes this condition? Does depersonalization not disappear by itself if you do not pay attention to it? If, for example, there is no reason for anxiety anymore, then why does depersonalization not go away?

So distract yourself?
Refocusing your thoughts away from anxiety / DPDR is an important part of the recovery process 😊
Yeah
Can it make your life meaningless
It can make you feel that way temporarily, but that feeling will fade away and stop completely as your recovery continues and you get back to normal 😊 www.dpmanual.com/articles/back-to-normal-after-depersonalization/
Hi sir I am a student and I'm struck very badly in this.i can't even explain it to my family.i think I am not able to feel the emotional attachment with them.i can barely think of studying and this is very uncomfortable.please help!@dpmanuel
Hey, thanks for your comment. Firstly, please make sure that you’re speaking to your parents about what’s happening. It’s very important that they know what’s going on. Secondly, I know DPDR can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. It's not permanent and it can't hurt you. You can and will recover. Make sure to read through all the info and articles on my website at www.dpmanual.com
