Dude, I’ve had it for multiple years. You got it though I promise it will fly by. I’m fighting with it too. We both got this. I got it from smoking marijuana, and it changed me for the worst. It feels like I’m in a movie. Everything‘s cold my cousin had these symptoms after he did it tooand ever since then I’ve had it. I’m finally just now fixing myself from you. Got this my man don’t give up. We’re all different though. It could take months and years.

I’ve been working with my therapist recently so I’m gonna share something she told me to help feelings of dpdr, hopefully this can help someone.
So basically being hyper aware of your senses can help bring you out or just help the dpdr in general, and it’s not the traditional 5 senses exercise. Here’s an example. Say you have everyday things you do, something basic like, washing dishes, doing laundry, feeding your pet, etc. When you do those things really focus and pay attention to your senses, say you’re doing laundry, In your head literally try to notice everything, so something like, the shirt is red, it’s soft, there’s a rip in this jacket, the sound of the hangers when you’re hanging up your clothes, anything like that. Notice as much as you can. The feel, textures, smell, sound, colors, taste, or anything else you can think of, to the point of if you were saying all these little details out loud people would think it was weird. Doing it everyday for small amounts of time will overtime bring you back to feeling real. I started with 20 minutes a day but you can do it as much or as little whatever feels good to you. I hope this made sense to whoever reads and I hope it can help you! ☺️

Dont get frustrated by people telling you it didnt go away for them. I also had it for a very long time and im back to a happy life. I even sometimes think i feel better than ever before. ❤ Never give up! I recommend the book DARE, a lot of rest and sleep, regular sport (like running), healthy eating, no nicotine/alcohol/coffein, writing a journal about your day and anxiety. Also dont be afraid to seek therapy! I was scared to ask for help but talking with an educated person about your worries can improve your life a lot.

I have this feeling of not being totally "here in the moment" for more than 10 years now and I learned to live with it in a way that I'm no longer afraid of it. I accepted this feeling and realized that it gets the worst when I'm stressed out or very afraid but that makes sense because it's like a defence mechanism, it happens for a reason and then it goes away when I relax.
Also, I noticed that this feeling is always here but I'm aware of it only if I think about it, so when I notice it, I just go on with my day and forget about it. That's the catch I think. Don't let it in your focus, just ignore it and concentrate on what you're doing and it's gonna be okay :)

Anyone reading this tht has been thoroughly freaked out by comments from ppl who say it never goes away, its been years, etc..
keep in mind that the volume of comments like that are going to far outweigh more positive/optimistic comments. this is due to the fact that almost everyone who has recovered and doesn't experience it anymore aren't looking up videos about it, nevermind commenting.
ive had DPDR episodes a few times throughout my life (the longest was around a year, and i fully 1000% bounced back). i am currently going through one now, and I will make it thru just as I did the other times.
leaving this here for anyone who's anxiously looking for hopeful comments in a sea of people rubbing salt into their wounds instead of remaining hopeful.
you will 100% make it through and be your same old self again. not 99%, like you truly will forget what dpdr even feels like. even if it comes back again, you'll make it through again.

I am 13 years old and I experienced it for the first time in 2021, I suppose due to anxiety, and i experienced it a couple more times, and it was normal until mid-2022 when I was watching a movie with the lights off with my family, it the movie ended and since I was sleepy I closed my eyes, they were watching another movie and when I had my eyes closed I reached a point where I felt unreal, and that's where it all started for me, I don't know why that was, now then After a year and after simply not paying much attention to the derealization, spending time with my family, facing situations that caused me derealization, playing sports and distracting myself, I'm much better, or so I think, I almost don't feel that feeling anymore, only when I feel I worry a lot or overthink, but today I felt a little bad and I searched for information, I found a comment from a guy who said something like "the feeling is always there, but you only feel it when you think about it".
      I have some questions:
1- What the guy said is false right? There are moments where you don't feel derealization, there are moments where you feel connected, right?
2- According to what I told you, am I on the right way? Am I making progress and soon will I get over it completely?
3- Is there really a way to control stress so that you no longer feel that feeling once it is over? Will the feeling always come back to me at some point? Or at some point is it going to disappear permanently?
Pls if you answer my questions it would help me a lot.

Definitely good advice as far as accepting it but for those dealing with this need to accept all the weird things they feel thats caused by anxiety depression. Dissociation is like he said a defensive mechanism because your body is trying to protect you from negativ emotions. If you dont build yourself to where you can allow these negative emotions in as well and properly process them then you probably will still feel detatched. Theres probably a reason why youve become like this in the first place and i know for me it stems from past trauma. Definitely dont dwell in your head wondering what ifs. Get back in your body and pag attention to it and be with it. A good book is called the body keeps the score. It explains how our trauma is actually physically existing in our bodys and the way forward is actually moving back within ourselves

I've been depersonalized since I was 10 and I'm now nearing my mid-30's. I'm still depersonalized. I never had stress from that, but I've always been considered tense by everyone around me. This method you used might work for someone short term, but certainly not long term. Long term effects include being less productive and keeping the social network small. It's very bad. I only became slightly normal when I got sad once because how emotionally detached my experiences have made me. I realized I needed help and sadly I live in a state that is ran by exclusivist elitists in the US.

I agree with a lot of this, but I don't exactly associate with it as danger, it's just inconvenient for me because there's a 15 year memory gap, each daily action is "automated" there's absolutely 0 thoughts in my head unless I try real hard and when I do I forget everything that had to do with whatever it was. It's more of Id just like to get some type of 'memory storage' back but if not whatever, just helps me get through my day faster. I'm used to it, if it doesn't go away, oh well.

@@starprime9969 its all about knowing your dose limit, you have a fragile mind like me. I bet in day to day life even when your sober you question your thoughts and actions with people and always in your own mind. Not everyone's brain works like this. if i smoke a lot of weed in a joint I get really high it fucks my head up.. if i smoke a very small amount (1/2 the size of a pea for me) I get the chilled high without the racing thoughts and uncomfortable anxiety. People think that smoking a big fat spliff is a normal dose because there friends take that much and they don't get the anxiety paranoia but weed is strong these days and not everyone has the right sort of mind to take too much. So try what I said a very tiny amount to the point you can barely taste it and avoid edibles. Alcohol brings you out of an anxiety/paranoia trip so bear that in mind

okay so how i view DPDR is a shift in focus so uk normally your primary focus is outside like in your surroundings along w you in it and the secondary is on your mind your thoughts the emotions you feel so when that gets interchanged because your brain thinks that you (your mind) needs more attention you get into this state where you feel disconnected from the outside world and yourself too because you’re too overwhelmed to process any of it

I want to live in the fictional worlds where atleast i am someone doing something else than just repeatedly stuck in this sick dream. BUT! I always forget and underestimate the thing that reality can have those interesting, thrilling,or fun parts you just gotta work for it and search it

I suffer from dpdr from 2015 so it's almost 9 years... after 2 years it got better but my perception never came back. I was able to have pretty good life but it still felt like something is off. 2 years ago I got very sick and got panic attack, after that I had to start taking antidepressants and my dpdr got worse then ever. after 1 year and 6 months I stoped taking atydepresants and I was kinda ok. but a week ago it all started again. im sure I can beat those strong dpdr attack when I can't recognize ppl and places but I am still worrying about my perception, that it will never go to what it used to be. anyone experienced thing like that? that even when you don't have dpdr symptoms your perception is off and everything feels kinda weird??? sry for grammar, its very hard to focus when I have the strong dpdr episode.

I’d like to believe that just accepting it will help me snap out of it but i think my brain is permanently effed up. Since summer of 2023, i experienced derealization and the feeling of not being real. Even now, as i am typing this, i feel like i am mot supposed to be here. It almost feels like i am experiencing a bad high without smoking/taking anything. I dont know why i feel this way, and it is very scary. I cant sleep at night bc its worse at night. I have death anxiety, and constantly think about how one day i will literally die, and i dont know what will happen. I am 18, and i constantly think about how i was just 16, and how fast time feels like it is going. I am terrified of dying. What will happen? Literally nobody knows, and thats even scarier. I have a panic and anxiety disorder, so it just makes it all worse ontop of it. I also have hyperventilating syndrome ontop of that so imagine. I wish i was normal again, i want to live my life normally without feeling like i am looking through glasses or something. I feel like i am alone and i am dying. I feel like something is genuinely wrong with me and i dont know how to get out of it. When i become aware of my surroundings, it makes my anxiety so much worse. I feel scared. What can i do? I dont know what to do. When i am with people and distracted, i feel fine. Once i am alone, i feel totally different. I want to feel normal again
I just watched this video til the end, and you explained it perfectly how it feels. Its literally like a loop, and the more i think about it the more i get scared. I will try to do this, i will try to just ignore it and act like everything is fine and eventually my brain will believe it. I dont know how to get over the death anxiety one bc thats what triggers it. But i guess i just have to forget about it, theres literally nothing we can do about it, so why stress it?

Hey. I just stumbled upon this video and I just kinda watched it. You see in summer 2023 I had this sad thing in my life and I got this feeling that is hard to explain (like un reality and it scares me bc I think I will go blind or something. Ik its stupid to think that but it is just the first thing that comes to my mind.) So I god SUPER scared of this feeling having it non stop for a week, not understanding what is wrong and I finally told mom and she took me to the hospital (blah blah timeskip). After a few weeks after being at the hospital the feeling isin’t gone and I am even more teriffied and then my mom takes me to the hospital AGAIN (it gets interesting now). They do lots of tests and exams on me, especially on my eyes bc I though that was the problem 😂, and after all this they just write it down on severe anxiety, but here I am… Still with this thing everyday (i called her Olivia 👍) and I just watched this video and even though I still dont know if this is derealization but I will try. AND GUYS! STAY STRONG! DONT PANIC! AND BREATH! 💖

Hey, I'm really sorry to hear you're going through this. I remember feeling just like that when I first experienced depersonalization-it can be incredibly tough. Not feeling like yourself, struggling to sleep, and dealing with a racing heart and internal shakiness are all common symptoms. It can feel like it's taking over your life.
When I was going through similar struggles, what helped me was grounding techniques and exercise. Focusing on getting my body moving helped calm my mind and made a huge difference in my recovery.
It's also important to talk to a healthcare professional about what you're experiencing. They can help determine if medication or other treatments might be beneficial for you.
If you're looking for more support and practical tips, check out my channel. We're all in this together, and there are ways to get through this.

@@deniselove3849 I'm really glad my advice helped you. Yes, I had a couple of triggers that really set off my depersonalization. Looking at the moon at night would make me overthink how vast the universe is and how small and insignificant I felt in comparison. Large crowds, like in restaurants, would also make me feel overwhelmed and anxious.
It sounds like you're going through a lot right now, especially with back-to-back stressful events. It's totally normal for your nervous system to feel sensitive and on edge after such experiences. It's good that you're taking steps to manage your anxiety, like starting medication, but I understand the concern about sleep issues.
If you're comfortable, I'd love to continue our conversation on one of my videos over on my channel. We can discuss more strategies and support each other through this. If you feel up to it, sharing more about your stressful events might also help others who are going through similar situations.

What is bs? That is basically what I say in the video. DPDR is often part of the stress response which is activated when we experience high anxiety / fight or flight as a way to 'cope' with the situation. I had an interview Dr. Elaine Hunter who is essentialy one of the leading experts on DPDR who runs the Unreal charity, and according to her research DPDR is a defence mechanism for high stress situations, which is what I say in the video, and 'high stress situations' includes traumatic situations which by definition are deeply disturbing or distressing situations. Not everyone who goes through high stress / traumatic events will develop PTSD for example, but many people will have some kind of DPDR during the event and for a short time after. You can also have DPDR also without experience any traumatic event in your life, as what causes stress and anxiety depends on what is percieved, not always what actually happens, that's why even after a situation, the fear of the DPDR itself, is causing stress, creating the cycle.

You can’t speak, you can’t concentrate, extreme fatigue, extreme memorie issues, extreme numbness -> trauma state.
To say that dpdr and anxiety plays hand in hand is completely false and not scientifically accurate. Actual DPDR is a whole different ballpark, 0 comparison to anxiety. The branch of the nervous system who produces dpdr is also completely different than the one who produces anxiety. After my motorcycle accident I had extreme dpdr, extreme dpdr.
