      I'm studying for an MBA- 2/3 complete. I'm learning a lot, but looking ahead, I'm not sure what kind of decently paying work I can get right after graduation.
      Do you have any ideas for first jobs after an MBA for a midlife career changer? My plan has been to do freelance writing (proposals, business plans, resumes, etc), but I'd love to know what employment options there are. Jobs for recent MBA grads, from anything but a famous-name school, with little to no relevant experience don't show up very often in any of my job searches.

    100% worth it for me. I got my MBA in my late 40's and that got me through the HR filters for the higher level job I was applying for. Using that and all of the hints and tricks from your other interview video's, I got an offer $10K higher than the salary range posted and a huge pay increase for me. I got mine online and distance learning and the company could care less where I got it as long as it was accredited. Well worth it!

      How long did it take? I just turned in my capstone today. I am hoping to find a job closer to home but the job market right now is looking hard. Also I am trying to move up in the ladder but the only interviews I had either offered me the same pay for more hours or decided not to go further with me cuz I only have one year supervising.

    MBA is absolutely worth it for those that know why they need MBA.
    If you are doing just because it sounds good to tell u r mba or because others are doing, u may not benefit as much.

    In my case, the undergrad double major of philosophy and German, I wanted/needed the MBA so that hiring managers would have a better idea of what I could do. Did I learn anything while getting it? Yes, but the experience has taught me far more.

    If you're thinking of doing an MBA, checking out the requirements and what the schools you're interested in are looking for early on can be helpful. Fair to say you don't want to rush the entire app process ideally (i.e. submit an application in 7 days to a top school like Harvard). The prep journey you go on for the GMAT, a standardized test many take for their MBA applications, may take months, for example.

    Question as a current MBA candidate and looking at DBA programs potentially:
    I love theory. I really do. Especially business theory and applying my knowledge to situations.
    I’m nearing 24, been super fortunate to receive my MBA acceptance and be able to complete the program soon, yet I don’t feel accomplished enough. I have a high tech proficiency, but not a lot of experience. Will the DBA hurt me? Is it worth it to get my Doctorate of Business Administration?
    4.0 GPA in my cohort for two semesters in a row as well so I don’t find it hard at all academically.

    • @SV19111
      @SV19111 Год назад +1

      New knowledge won't hurt, but personally, I decided to gain work experience(s) and then continue with the Master's studies. I love learning too, but you need real-world knowledge application to get to know yourself a bit better and decide what exactly you want to do.

    • @xtractztv8628
      @xtractztv8628 Год назад

      @@SV19111 4 months later, I actually got my MBA. Nobody would hire me. Biggest thing was they wanted someone with 10-15 years of experience, and demanding more pay than what I projected myself towards.
      I would lowball myself in the 65k-75k mark, and would be laughed away from interviews. It was disclosed later that most of my interviews were for 100k+ jobs, so they might seem like my skill set isn’t worth the pay grade.
      Ended up in the automotive retail sector being a manager. I make more than my salaried store manager because of my MBA. Can’t complain at all and he is happy with my work. Plus, I am the only one with a college degree, so it has been mentioned I will most likely be promoted within 1 more month to a higher management position.
      Side note: I took this job over a month ago and kept making LinkedIn posts about my progress, an average of 5-7 recruiters contact me per week offering a position in corporate for different automotive companies & dealerships. Even had a customer try to hire me for his dealership based off my knowledge of a product & customer service level. The fact is though, I enjoy what I do, and ain’t jumping ship too quickly. I’d rather soak up all the knowledge and experience in retail (even though it’s my 5th retail job within 6 years, mainly worked them over summers during my undergrad).

    • @modifiedjaymill
      @modifiedjaymill Год назад +3

      No, you likely already meet the qualifications or over qualify based on experience. Usually companies want you to have a MBA or BA, then it’s based on how much experience you have. If you have 10 years experience with a BA, your gonna out shine the MBA with only 2-3 years experience.
      Companies are looking for people who can come in and hit the ground going,then grow as they learn the companies sop, not someone to come in they will have to train or not fully sufficient.

      The best advice. The knowledge is useful and the course material is interesting. It's a great credential for people who have good judgment, managerial experience, or already have professional expertise in a domain and want to move into management. However, my MBA cohort was also full of people with no social skills, intelligence, or critical thinking skills, and I wouldn't want them holding power in any organization, ever.
