Honestly, this Nilah skin could've gone so hard if it took inspiration from the bayonetta series, and used her hair as part of her clothes and maybe even weapon. It would also help to set her apart from other Covens with a unique theme.

Every new skin line is full of straight bangers and then additions to the same line just get sadder and significantly more same-y the more there are. It’s a real shame.
It's cause most of times the original line-up was thought out together with the concept and the next additions are just Riot milking the cow to try and profit more
That's because most skin lines are simple high concepts. The more you iterate on them, the less unique and interesting they become. They might still do something really cool for legendaries, but the regular epic skins just get less and less interesting every time the skin line comes back.
It would be better if skin lines were unique, one time things, but releasing new skins in existing lines is probably cheaper since there's less concept work needed and they sell really well anyway...
@@Oscar97o Nah i disagree. The main problem with the skins is that they release bunch of skins per patch, which ruins the quality of the overall line not because you're "reiterating the same concept" but rather, you're pushing 5 skins per month adapting a concept that another team/person worked on and nourished for weeks.
A skinline concept is tailored to certain champions and adding more to that might not adapt fully, and that's for sure, just as much as, after a bunch of addiction you lose the novelty of the skinline. Sure.
But the real problem is releasing half-baked concepts just because riot needs to push 5-6 skins every month. Just like op said, this skin could've been so much better with just a little more thought put into it, so the problem is clearly not "the skinline"

every single Coven skin in this batch feels off. there’s no cohesion between this batch and the previous 3
even coven morgana and evelyn have too much overlap IMO, gorgeous but not unique. the first 3 coven skins are the gold standard (and riot fired her/that concept artist and it lost its feminine lens)
@@jennywithaglock3916 So a designer pushed for an idea, getting past riot doubters about how high fashion would be appealing to their audience. It turns out incredible and sells well.
And the lesson Riot takes from this is that the sexy witch stuff is good and they can do it by themselves.

@@jennywithaglock3916my biggest issue with coven evelynn apart from her similarities with morgana in the same skin line is that she looks nothing like herself? i don’t know how to explain but as if it’s coven first and evelynn second. i didn’t even realise it was her at first 😅 like pretty but fantasy generic? i am not sure how to explain

When turning the girls a generic-pretty is so expected that they tried turning a girl into a generic-handsome

Nilah wears the outfit that all the other witches in the coven politely compliment and then roll their eyes when her back is turned and laugh. She's wearing the apprentice outfit.

in legends of runeterra, instead of getting a coven skin she actually got a lunar eclipse skin instead, which suits her way better in my opinion.
Since the story of both is that she betrayed the coven to become an eclipse fighter, it makes a lot of sense.

The Edea Theme in the background is just soooo good. Great choice of music Skyen.
It's not even "Edea's" theme, it's the Sorceress theme, Edea just happens to be the Sorceress interacted with most within the story, but it also plays during parts with Rinoa as wlell for sure, and i think with Ultimecia and Adel parts as well.
@bloodknyte since the topic was the coven skinline which is known for high fashion witches I thought Edea fits that to a T, that's why I called it Edeas theme.

The face is just cursed, it looks like Kayn, but in the end her base skin is her best skin yet

The grin here just sells it for me, I really like how her lore completely matches the skin
She is joyful all the time, and that is shown beautifully in her personality, but the spin here just works, she is joyful *all* the time, so when she is slicing your arms off, she's doing it with a smile on her face
A character that is ever joyful is great as a hero, but it also works pretty well as a villain, the first that come to mind are All Might, and the Joker
But perhaps the vibe this skin gives me more is from Elsa, the Bowel Hunter from Re:Zero
I think had they maybe made the skirt like... long?? It would have played up the elegance, but long skirts are hell to animate. It would've also gone more with the flow aspect too.

Seeing the Coven skin reminded me, since Eclipse Knight Nilah is in LOR - I'd desire to see you talk about Legends of Runeterra or Wild Rift skins as well if it pleases you.
I really had high hopes for Nilah and/or Samira to get a Coven skin and pull up a Bayonetta-style of witches, since well, their gameplay are very hack-n-slash to begin with lol
But...eh, Nilah in it is quite underwhelming

FF8 planted in my mind the concept of “sorceress fashion” and I am glad to see it take part in this trope.
Everytime I watch one of these videos I'm always looking at the art and thinking "Really? This looks dope, it couldn't be that bad-" and then he shows the actual skin and it's like "Oh. It could be that bad."
I think, if the pink were red, there’d be A LOT more going for it. Specifically dor the blood symbolism. Have it be over her heart. Blood of the coven and all that

I feel like if they'd played with her water powers and made her like a blood magic witch, turning all her water into blood and giving her a lot of red in the color palette it would've been more on-theme
funny that the star guardian skin has a weird concept but great outfit and execution while the coven one has a great concept but weird outfit/execution
She also has some classic skin color lightening going on in this skin (not that it's new for her)
Eclipse Nilah from LOR is much better imo. Fits her character a lot more and the design is great.

The sash thing in game reminds me of xayah, which I do not think is the intention. Also yeah I understand that she moves a lot and her og fashion is more androgynous but I agree that the *fantasty* of coven is very high fashion mixed with edgar allen poe: it should be like if pared down Guo Pei did Grimm's fairytale. Its possible that Nilah just isn't a match for this skin line.
I was really hoping they would take some inspiration from Indian fashion for her.

You played Edea’s theme here but she gives off way more Kuja vibes with this skin.
The skin looks more like a blood moon skin than a coven skin tbh
While I do like Nilah’s concept, it doesn’t feel like it fits in too well here. She doesn’t come off like the others in Coven and more like someone who works under one of them and is happy to be allowed to do her thing.
Overall, Nilah will be a fun character to see get skins. While it would be the weapon that would be tricky to work in, here… it actually might be the character herself. I’m sure we have our ideas of skin lines to toss her in, but hopefully we didn’t peak with SG.

Just make the Lunar Eclipse skin from LoR for her. The splash art and the whole concept of 'fighting Elder Gods worshipped by the Coven' suits her battle hungry character concept.
This skin is weird, kinda that i dont remember of her existence, being honest, the best nilah skin is soulfighter nilah(wild rift lol)
Kinda reminds me of the standard Evil Sorceress fire emblem archetype but from a bad fire emblem game

this is late but the chromas fix a lot of it by adding jewelry or just having more interesting colour and textures

Lol this skin looks so good but once it reaches to her waist to feet, is kinda lazy made it destroys her fashion approach. They could have used the model from star guardian nilah for her waist down and turn them into a long boots with heels so that the high fashion approach somehow is there or even giving her elephant pants or dress with fur linings and flat shoes such as ballet shoes.
I wish they just went all in and gave her a high fashion Sari.

Yeah it's a lot blander than the expression in her splashart makes you think it is. Seems like illustrators instantly recognize mediocre design and try to embelish it as much as they can in their own product.

Why i was so disappointed with this release of coven to be honest, especially this one and nami. I feel like the option was right there to turn nami’s dress into a mermaid tail gown (it was right there). Make her a floating demi witch, more cw less high fantasy, thats what made the skin line so great, the tentacles kinda push her over the edge and lack the subtlety of other legendaries in the skin line like morgana and evelynn. I feel like the fix with nilah too could have been really simple, they just take out the metal ware in the outfit, make the pant a wide leg that doesn’t taper, and keep the color scheme to exclusively red and black ombre, it woukd have made the design much sleeker, c*nty and more hight fashion.
lore wise this skin is perfect for her since she'll end up betraying them anyways, quite similar on her base lore using the power of a demon to become a hero.

LoR skin fits her better because there she's an eclipse knight. honestly tho, i thought riot would make her as an eclipse character in LoL, not the coven one. kinda disappointing but acceptable

Ill tell you what, this skin's Q empowered AA is so weird and the red so thin that it throws me off in-game. Someone skin boosted in ARAM and i couldnt play her properly😂. Ill stick with Star Guardian or default

Star gaurdian is just bad. Coven is better but its still not as good as we wanted. Her Best skin is base one.
I enjoy this addition a lot actually but I do think it may not feel as special without the threads connecting coven to eclipse knight nilah. She’s a coven member as much as it gets her close to their gods, and something about her flesh, her humanity being exposed as she betrays a coven of witches who could’ve only been bested by doubting her strength. She controls a demon, an old god, and wants more. The more being a knightly role also isn’t lost. Knights are nameless to history before their legacy unfolds, just as nilah was
