1980. Reagan just came into office, inflation and the economy wouldn’t recover for another couple of years, and from the sounds of some of these musical selections there’s a Disco spillover. What a great video time capsule. ❤
The Sesame Street float with Bob singing that wholesome song really got to me. 1980 was the first year I can remember, 77 baby, so seeing that cool float and the whole parade with MC Ed McMahon was really cool
Yes, that was definitely Robert Vaughn in the crowd with the fancy camcorder at 22:22. I was wracking my brain trying to remember his last name. I knew he was Robert Something and even tried doing a Google Image search with a screenshot from your video but I think it was too small and got no results. Thanks for this upload. Great blast from the past.
I miss toy stores. I had so much fun shopping for my kids at Christmas. It makes me sad that my granddaughter will never know the fun of shopping in a toy store.
14:57 I’m kinda fascinated by Ed McMahon’s Thanksgiving carol. I’ve Google’d several lines from it and the lyrics don’t appear to be anywhere on the internet, so I can’t find any information about it
Probably just an original song written specifically for the parade by somebody at NBC or Macy's. If this recording had included the credits there might have been a blurb about who authored it.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and everybody! Ya know, it's people like you that makes the world go round and the people in it happy even if it only lasts the length of your videos. Big thanks for the uploads of memories 😊🍻
Wow! This is gold right here, thank you! I see the Smurfs making their appearance at 10:09 on NBC ten months before the premier of the Smurfs cartoon series. I don’t remember the parade because I was in kindergarten at the time, but some of the commercials definitely rings a bell. Thank you again and Happy 🦃 day!
Ed McMahon must have been prescient to call Diff'rent Strokes a "long-time running" sitcom when it was 2 years old at the time and would ultimately run for 8 years.
Happy Thanksgiving, first of all! 4:52 Call it a hunch, but I'm pretty sure the sound guy got yelled at for starting the tape late (also, "there's gotta be somebody watching the show" - on NBC in the late 1970s/early 1980s; not many) 9:34 As it happened, at least Bryant Gumbel would have a little bit of time for his day job hosting NFL '80 since NBC had the late Thanksgiving game 21:35 An off-model Mickey Mouse balloon sighting 43:35 An equally off-model Bullwinkle balloon In addition to the rare non-New Zoo Revue sighting of Henrietta Hippo and Freddy the Frog (I guess Charlie the Owl declined to appear); I saw a couple of Smurfs in the background (I wonder if NBC had already secured the rights to begin airing the Saturday morning cartoon for the 1981-82 season) as well as Daffy Duck.
huh never heard of 'The Generals' I just know the analog version 'Stratego' seemed like a neat take on that game though! I was probably far too young to remember most of this stuff, was not even two at the time! But even still thanks for sharing this!
11:47 I remember a different voice when I first heard saw that commercial. It made me think that first voice was more fitting when he said "Hmmm...". 17:37 I recall an earlier Child World commercial with a cartoon bunny. 17:47 I've played almost 9 innings of that game in a store. No employee stopped me (thank goodness), but my parents told that me we were leaving. 18:46 Gee! I don't recall ever hearing about that Thanksgiving special. 27:52 I've seen these commercials as an Evel Knievel lineup (with the same music). The one I got was a stunt-n-crash car. 30:47 This was some compilation of commercials made into one. One of these was with that baseball player chewing gum, maybe *that* was my first time seeing a Rubik's Cube. 31:17 I remember when that live-action Popeye was being released in theaters, people were making a big deal about it. In my opinion, the movie is fairly good. Maybe a fairly good movie wasn't enough to make a follow-up. 32:56 Linus the Lionhearted was canceled by the time I was born (but you can *now* see it on RUclips). I wouldn't have thought he would make such an appearance by 1980. 34:10 I have the one on the right and it still works! 37:43 Smokey Bear is his name. Leave out the "THE". 40:13 When Lacey J. Dalton sings, it's like she's-a-shakin' real fast! 45:11 I recall when "The Legend of the Lone Ranger" was advertised. I wonder how it compares to the one with Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp.
You know you're a fan of "Friends" (like I am) when all you can think about during the Tollhouse cookie commercial, and the recipe on the back, is Phoebe and her grandmother's cookie recipe!
Godzilla/Hong Kong Phooey-wouldve made for a interesting crossover McDonalds-Its Mike Seaver! Intergalactic Thanksgiving-if this were remade today the Beastie Boys would be doing the theme song Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade- 1) Ed shouldve gotten a Grammy nomination. 2).Vaughn looked like he was stifling a laugh 3)Now we know what Ed's favorite beer is.. 4)Who let Pennywise out of the sewer? 5) At least that wasnt Mothra the Spinners were performing near..
Happy Thanksgiving! 1:29 To make you feel nostalgic in case you’re missing the mediocre USA Network’s Cartoon Express. - *looks up Child World in Wikipedia* Huh... you learn something new everyday... 4:50 not lip-syncing? I’m not sure I believe you. ;) 7:41 “longtime running series ‘Diff’rent Strokes’”. I’m not sure if being in a third season makes it a “long time”. I guess maybe if you’re comparing it with other shows introduced in NBC around this time... 11:49 “This sucks. Let’s play Stratego.” 15:43 I admire him in being a good sidekick to Carson. But the only genuine emotion I feel when hearing Ed McMahon sing is scoffing laughter. 21:00 ...but they DON’T “have all their sisters with” them. They are missing a sister. Liars. 27:04 The couple remind me of Wayne and Wanda from “The Muppet Show”. In fact, if it WAS “The Muppet Show”, the Loch Ness Monster would swoop his neck down and eat them. 31:58 You’re right... not rousing AT ALL. 43:07 If you put up a picture of Danielle Brisebois when she was with the New Radicals, and said it was the same person, I’m not sure I would have believed you. 50:43 Oscar not being a grouch about Christmas? Is he not feeling well? 56:38 Later on, Mother G had a failed rap career.
is he drinking ? I've just kinda noticing he seems kinda boozy throughout this video? this seemed to confirm it for me 31:33. maybe I'm just looking to deep into it
The good old days. Who would have imagined we'd be saying that about the 80s.
1980. Reagan just came into office, inflation and the economy wouldn’t recover for another couple of years, and from the sounds of some of these musical selections there’s a Disco spillover. What a great video time capsule. ❤
Reagan had been elected but was not inaugurated until January, 1981.
The Sesame Street float with Bob singing that wholesome song really got to me. 1980 was the first year I can remember, 77 baby, so seeing that cool float and the whole parade with MC Ed McMahon was really cool
When Sister Sledge rides in on a huge turkey. And Willis is dancing in the street..you know it was the world we grew up in 💗
The Todd Bridges jam was 🔥🔥🔥 Happy Thanksgiving
Thank you for uploading this it sure brings back memories.
I just watch these. I don't even watch modern television at all.

I remember these 😂😂
Peter Panda and Child World! Brings back so many memories!

Great one! Happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for continuing to do this!
This is epic! Thanks for sharing. Hope you had a great holiday!

Thank you again and Happy 🦃 day!
The characters of the Smurfs existed before the cartoon series (first appearing in comics in the mid-50s)
@@mickeymouseproductions8977 yeah, I know
You’re the best! Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving! 🥂 Thanks for this, you gave me a great shot of nostalgia today💕
Happy Thanksgiving!🦃
4:51 lol Marilyn michaels was lip syncing :) but she’s so cute 😍🤣🤣
Happy Thanksgiving Thanks

43:35 An equally off-model Bullwinkle balloon

32:51 YAY FOR PAW PIIE !! lmao I don't know why that shit sounds so funny to me 😂

Also, I'm a mega "Sound of Music" fan, so that promo was perfect!
Wow Willis can move!!! 7:38
45:26 The Lone Ranger and his trusty sidekick donuts.
We had child world in NY NJ
aw, ed.
I didn't know that Bryant Gumbel did parade commentary back in 1980!
Bryant Gumbel co-hosted the parade from 1977-80 and hosted from 1982-84.
80sCommercialVault he always looked so bored and I love every second of him being bored.
I'm so glad to see these videos. Will there ever be another Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC?
7:45 'tomorrow dancing' by Todd Bridges is especially cheesy.
Sincopare The title is “Summer Dancing” not “Tomorrow”
Godzilla/Hong Kong Phooey-wouldve made for a interesting crossover
McDonalds-Its Mike Seaver!
Intergalactic Thanksgiving-if this were remade today the Beastie Boys would be doing the theme song
Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade-
1) Ed shouldve gotten a Grammy nomination.
2).Vaughn looked like he was stifling a laugh
3)Now we know what Ed's favorite beer is..
4)Who let Pennywise out of the sewer?
5) At least that wasnt Mothra the Spinners were performing near..
Want some milk and cookies now.
Geez I was negative three when this aired. But OMG that Todd Bridges song was just god awful.
Hahah I thought it was catchy 🤷🏻♀️💃🏻
He makes Leif Garrett sound good.
I was negative 2
Does anyone know what song is playing at 7:56 ?
Ed McMahon gives the song title "Summer Dancing" at 7:51
It doesn't appear it was ever released commercially.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Chris Lang thanks for posting bro 👍🏻🤘🏻
At 17:56 the truck driver from Friday the 13th part one. He gave Annie a ride before she was murdered.
Ouch. The chick at the end of the Zales commercial did not want to kiss that guy on the lips.
This aired a few days before the Lennon assassination.
November 27th - December 8th = 11 days, nearly two weeks later.
lip syncing at 4:52
All of the singing here except for Ed McMahon's song was lip synced.
😂
I like her delayed reaction when the music started.
What 'choo talkin' 'bout Willis?
42:35 gorgeous Danielle Brisebois
Little Stephie
