I was going to an appoetolic church fir a few nonths and a pastor said (Yelled) in his sermon "we dress the best so other people will see us and want that. So they know god is blessing us as apostolics and even if he isnt right now he has better things for you and he will reward you for your obedience".......and the whole church started clapping and running around.
When I go to Church I try to wear something business casual-ish. Something nicer than what I would wear around the house, but not something super dressed up. I do think our society has gotten ridiculous with how casually we dress....but I try to look presentable.
Growing up in the 90s, we never had these places to shop for clothing online. I could never have afforded it either. Trying to meet these standards was very hard for kids who didn't sew or have money. I am grateful to be on the outside of this loop. I could never understand the "keeping up with the Jones" mentality. Thank you for the dialog. People often tried to make me feel less than when my clothing pushed the envelope on choir nights. I never felt God cared.
Thank you two beautiful people again! for another great podcast. I can only say, I wish I had all the money my husband and I spent on dress clothes back. Boy, we would be rich! And when I left that church, I donated all that polyester! I was so glad it was out of my closet. Along with the veil that was covering my brain! I can't wait to listen to you two every sunday and I love how you respect one another and not over talk each other. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much! You are so right! I guess they kept us hooked by saying we'd be able to cash in for a crown full of jewels one day! HAHA!! Thanks for the very kind words, we really appreciate you listening and being a part of our GE family! ❤️
I loved the UPC until I finally read the Bible for myself and then I came the to exact conclusions that you did. It was heartbreaking, but I am thankful to be relearning how to live in Grace. You guys are spot on with the lingo and the manipulation tactics.
I am so happy to not have to sew anymore slits in skirts, and to not have to convert my kids' club soccer mandatory uniform shorts into skirts. My daughter went to soccer camp last week, and everyone noticed she wasn't wearing a skirt. My daughters have been so much happier. We are so happy to be able to throw on some shorts/pants and a t-shirt, and head out the door, and not have to layer a skirt over shorts, and make sure those shirts aren't transparent. I love watching you all. I have taken so many notes.
After we left a (non upci) Pentecostal church we’ve been to for 22 years because of a controlling narcissist pastor, I heard he made the leaders to stop wearing blue jeans and wear dress pants. 😮 I know he put out a form filled with rules to follow if you want to sing in choir. 😮

Wow...they have to make is sound good I guess, so they can get people to stick around.
I believe there's extremes at both ends.
I like what Deanna Joe said about Jesus didn't put on His good robe to go preach. Great discussion guys!
Yes! We loved that part too!

I'm glad you felt that way, because He doesn't! It was hard as a teenager wanting to look like everyone else, and not being able to.

Thank you! It IS heartbreaking to be confronted with a different message than you were taught. But reading the Bible for yourself is so important!

It's' also a drab-colored holy hoodie.... just say 'in.......
HAHAHA!! Yes it is...
The men should look like penguins and the women like they have a bee hive on their head and unusual dresses.
Prince looks like he has an undershirt and jogging suit jacket on. Maybe it's just me but.... he appears to be a hypocrite, Just sayin......
Right?? 🤣
This was your most pointless episode yet. Really? Whining about people being expected to dress nicely for church?
