I know it's technically a country song, but it's honestly some of the best blues I've ever heard.
Country is not my bag, but Chris Stapleton’s voice is amazing…..I’ll listen just to hear him. This is like a signature song for him. I was blown over by his performance at the CMA of this song and then his rendition with Justin Timberlake of Can’t Drink It Away. Had to download that one.

I love this version of this song. Chris does such a great job on it. I have never been much of a country fan until I started to listen to Chris Stapleton. I also love him singing Cold at the CMA awards and also Devil Gonna Watch You Burn about the Vegas mass shooting. It is a must see. Very powerful.

Always fun seeing someone expect one thing with a “country singer” then stumble onto Chris Stapleton. He sings blues/rock/country/soul/r&b at an exceptional once in life time level. Actual country music is some of the best stuff out there. The rock/pop/country crap that most put out these days is meh at best. Give a few of these a try: George Strait, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Don Williams, Charlie Daniels Band, George Jones, Hank Williams (Jr and Sr).

You know Blue-eyed Soul, well I think this is called Redneck Soul.
It's amazing that, while we might think of Country music and Soul music as being on opposite sides of the spectrum, the truth is that almost every form of modern American music from the early 1900s to today, from Rock & Roll, R&B, Country, to Jazz, Blues, Big Band, and Gospel music, all share the same roots that branched off in different directions. Ken Burn's PBS documentary series "Country Music" beautifully explores those roots. While I've never been a big Country fan, that documentary opened my eyes to the similarities that all of our music share and I grew to have a profound respect and appreciation for it. Now, if only the people that listen to all these kinds of music could realize that we all share the same musical roots, maybe that help bond us all because music does bring people together like few other things can.

I assumed the original would be much the same too. Except Chris doesn’t even do his own songs the same way twice! I once heard his wife Morgane say Chris’s gift is to take a song apart then put it back together in a completely different way. I think his TW is a perfect example of this gift.

You've just been listening to the wrong country!!! There's different variations of country just like there's different rock and metal. Country was formed from blues originally. Chris was in several other bands also before his solo career.
Look up The Steeldrivers, blackberry smoke, Red Clay Strays, november rain by Zack Bryan, old friend by Robert Jon & the wreck, Josh Meloy, down low by Town Mountain, Stealing from the devil by Anthony Gomes, Soulshine by Govt Mule, barrelhouse blues by Albert Cummings, Joe Bonamassa, Tab Benoitt, coal tattoo by Warren Haynes etc.
For Country, I prefer the old stuff. 50s 69s 70s and some 80s I adored Glen Campbell. I detest modern country, except for the rare breakeout. Chris Stapleton is amazing.I was kind of hoping you'd do the Live one where Justin Timberlake joins in.

There's an awesome video of him joining The Shadowboxers on stage to do a cover "It's a Man's World" (James Brown) that he just _kills._ He also has a cover of The Allman Brothers song "Whipping Post" up that is really good. But anything. Anything live, especially when his wife, Morgane, is with him (seen here).... and you can't go wrong.
