In music, rock, blues, and country are much the same, it's just that they all intermingle far more comfortably. In fact, if you go back to around the 1940s, "rhythm and blues" (drawing from blues, jazz, and gospel, and eventually evolving into current R&B) was becoming increasingly popular, as was a more stylized form of folk and country singing (think Hank Williams, Sr., Roy Acuff, or Lefty Frizzell). By the 1950s, parts of each of these were alive and well in rock and roll, like Bill Haley, Chuck Berry, and Fats Domino -- and crossovers and similarities still occur in amazing frequency as the genres continue to borrow from one another. No they aren't mentally ill. It is blues country. Just the same as there is a thing called southern rock. You know lynard skynyrd shit like that. Country music doesn't always fit a genre and that's why it ends up as country music. And truth be told chris falls under old school country more then this new age pop country which is why many of the people who only listen to other genres have not heard of him
Oh come on. Country Blues and Blues Rock are often inches away from each other. Yes, this is the first, but it's no big deal mislabeling between those two, because the connective tissue (the Blues) is usually the strongest element in both, and the Country or Rock aspect are often more about the personal aesthetic of the performer.
Country blues. As a blues/R&B/rock fan I fell in love immediately with this song when it first came out....it's an interesting blend of familiar blues chords, country lyrics, soulful vocal licks---I just love it. Chris Stapleton's talent is undeniable. Cheers from Canada!
For a 100% authentic Country experience, try any of the following songs: Hank Williams Jr. - Family Tradition Randy Travis - Diggin' up Bones George Strait - Amarillo by Morning Travis Tritt - Here's a Quarter That should get you started off right 🙂
I agree these songs are great but country is about a story and Diggin’ up Bones doesn’t do that as much as Three Wooden Crosses but Diggin’ up Bones is still a great song
When you Say Nothing At All by Keith Whitley. Keith had one of the best voices ever for country music and died at a relatively young age. True country has a bluesy/southern rock vibe to it. The new age country is a lot more generic with snaps and beat machines.
KiLLUrShelves, Keith Whitley was amazing! This will show my age... I remember dancing to ‘Don’t Close Your Eyes’ while Keith sang it live at Gilley’s Club, in Pasadena, TX. What I would give to go back and do it again!
Southern rock.. that used to be a genre. Same thing lynard skynyrd.. or Eric church were part of. Problem is these days country is pop and southern rock doesnt exist... these days it's just pop and not pop
other country rock bands: poco, new riders of the purple sage, the flying burrito brothers (featuring the late and heartbreaking gram parsons), pure prairie league -- these were all bands in the early to mid '70s that country rock comprised at the takeoff of the genre. there are current descendants, but they've evolved into their own sounds now, not the same thing. and not to be conflated with southern rock: that's a whole 'nother thing (and includes the allman brothers, little feat, lynyrd skynyrd, and zz top), although the marshall tucker band stands pretty firmly between them.
Shelley Cassada To smooth, goes down so easy. I have to save Jack Daniels night to a special night at home with my husband to see me safely tucked in bed when that smooth hits me hard. Lol.

It was crazy when Chris did this cover. I knew the words but didn't know where it came from. He turned this song into something different and unrecognizable.
You guys have only scratched the surface of what country music has to offer.....keep going down the rabbit hole, I assure you that you are going to be amazed.

Chris's voice is a country girls panty dropper for sure. If you do White Buffalo, The Whistler live, come back and do Chris's Death Row. Wanna go full on in the Blues/rock genre? SRV is the GOAT. Anything live from him is incredible.
Been around different genre's of music all my life, but Can't sing worth sh▪t, played guitar when young and stunk, but my old ears can still hear, eyes still see, nand heartmstill feel, and man I am glad I live long enough to catch all three by this mans power of song. Wifes voice and body doing backup isbunreality in motion, and she is a very accomplished singer on her own. Best comments I reason first reaction wewertwo one man and one nwoman. Man to another man first reaction: 1st. You do not want to take your woman to see him live. 2nd, "Why not"? 1st, He'll sang her out of her panties"! Woman: "Feels like after every time she listens to Tennessee Whisky, at the finish, she wants a cigarette and wonders I'f she got pregnant." Play more of this guys stuff he is original the real deal and live, cripes, ya leave thinking,WTF JUST HAPPENED. Seek out females first reaction, damn they have eargasms.
So this version is very R&B/blues influenced, to supplement your country journey you should react to an older version of this song by either David Allan Coe or George Jones, they have much more distinctly country voices and sounds, and it would be interesting to hear you compare and contrast this new version with the originals, as well as get a feel for a more "traditional" country sound. I personally love both versions.
Yes! It's a little surprising how many people dont realize this cover is actually recorded over a track inspired by and sampled from the song I'd Rather Go Blind by Etta James! And even more surprising and a little disheartening that so many people think that is Beyonce's song because she covered it. :/
This version of the song uses instrumentals inspired by and sampled from the song "I'd Rather Go Blind," by Etta James, a blues queen in her time, so it absolutely makes sense a rhythm and blues fan would like it!
Jason Aldean feat. Miranda Lambert " Drowns the whiskey" is my other fav. Whiskey song. Miranda Lambert's song" Vice" is awesome as is "Momma's broken heart" or " Tin man"! You can't go wrong with any of her stuff.

@@abbey2629 It really is! I guess they sat down and said "how can we make this song even harder for the fiddle player? Oh let's pretty much double the speed" and he rose to that challenge.
You must be awfully young to say this is pure country. Pure is Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, George Jones or Merle Haggard. Pure Country is "twang." Chris is country soul or blues. Chris "warbles" too much to be Pure Country. Reba McIntyre was the first person who used that warble in her voice.
Lindia Pain I meant he’s the best pure country artist of this current age of country music. I know all of those people you mentioned are in face “pure country” but not of this decade.
Country music is uniquely American ... Born out of the southern experience in America ... where country music (roots in Scottish Irish immigrants), southern rock, rythym and blues all merged together. No artist out there produces more stank faces than Stapleton and y’all just proved that again lol. Great reaction!
Stank faces.
"Country music aint big over here" "It just isn't." "It just isn't..." It just isn't..."
*Closes eyes, raises brows, opens eyes*
*Stares in Texan*
Wut in actual t.a.r.n.a.t.i.o.n? Now that just don't make no sense.
Garth Brooks sold out Wembly. I have no idea whats going on in the UK
My Tennessee soul died a little at that statement.
As an American and someone from North Carolina...I mean country sucks major ass. It just does sorry 🤷♀️ but Tennessee whiskey is a massive exception, it’s a great song.
@@hartyhart6154 You've got to dig deep nowadays for real country, though. The new pop country doesn't do the genre justice.
@@TheJXP5 I agree too. I had a long period of time I absolutely couldn't stand country music until I realized they don't play the good stuff on the radio.
Country Music roots are in our Irish heritage brought to the Appalachian Mountains. A musical researcher actually wrote up her studies on this subject and, a movie was filmed about it.
Chris Stapleton can sing Anything. He has so much soul. He's my favorite ❤️
Please listen to A Boy Named Sue (Live) by Johnny cash, important song by one of the most transcendental country artists ever. He was famous for preforming at state prisons and this one he did for the inmates at San Quentin
Yes. It’s baby making music. He could sing my clothes off.
Girlfriend, you and i are soul sisters.
TRUTH!!!
Might as well do about 5 or 6 more Stapleton. Dude is incredible and can sing basically any Genre
You guys should see him do this live!! He's even better! I recommend Tennessee Whiskey Live from Austin City Limits and also I Was Wrong Live from Austin City Limits
I was wrong live is amazing!
Yassss so so good! Beyond!
This is true country. The kinda of music that tells a story from the heart and bares your soul. It has passion and it's down to earth.
Whiskey and You- Chris Stapleton
Will have your jaw on the floor
Brad Paisley & Alison Krauss - Whiskey Lullaby
Have Tissues at hand
This particular brand of country is a mix of blues rock with a Southern twang...you're a bit spoiled by starting with Chris Stapleton as your lead in to country, as he's insanely talented and his music is a great mix of styles...if you want to dive deeper, you can get into some George Strait, Dwight Yoakam, Clint Black, Chris LeDoux, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, and I could keep going on...I'd be more than happy to put a playlist together of some classic country songs, including some of the best female country artists of all time as well, and you could just go down the line and react to them individually...
Excellent suggestions!
this is a george jones tune modified perfectly by chris and morgane stapleton
@@betmo David Allan Coe recorded it first, it was written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove...George Jones recorded it later...
I hope you guys are good at holding back tears when it comes to my suggestions!:
Alyssa Lies - Jason Michael Carroll
Concrete Angels - Martina McBride
He Didn't Have To Be - Brad Paisley
OMG, absolutely amazing suggestions.
Chris Stapleton - Fire Away... React to the music video. It's one of the most emotional videos you'll ever see and it's a great song 👍🏻
Left me physically shaking. It was a powerful video for sure!
It's Country Blues with Soul baby!!❤❤
Sometimes I cry (live at bings) - Chris Stapleton !!!! MAKES YOU TEAR UP...
Chris Stapleton is what we know as Outlaw Country. A bit of country, a bit of blues mixed with a bit of rock n roll. He's one of the best.
Not Blues Rock! Nothing rock about this. This is Country Blues.
No they aren't mentally ill. It is blues country. Just the same as there is a thing called southern rock. You know lynard skynyrd shit like that. Country music doesn't always fit a genre and that's why it ends up as country music. And truth be told chris falls under old school country more then this new age pop country which is why many of the people who only listen to other genres have not heard of him
the term you are looking for is "country-rhythm and blues". i am old, trust me.
@red_array you are correct
Oh come on. Country Blues and Blues Rock are often inches away from each other. Yes, this is the first, but it's no big deal mislabeling between those two, because the connective tissue (the Blues) is usually the strongest element in both, and the Country or Rock aspect are often more about the personal aesthetic of the performer.
@@Wiley_Coyote so you're saying Chris Stapleton sounds almost the same as Stevie Ray Vaughn, George Thorogood, etc?? 😕
Chris plays guitar perfectly to match his amazing vocals.
The Austin City Limits extended version of " I was wrong" shows his under rated guitar play.
Country blues. As a blues/R&B/rock fan I fell in love immediately with this song when it first came out....it's an interesting blend of familiar blues chords, country lyrics, soulful vocal licks---I just love it. Chris Stapleton's talent is undeniable. Cheers from Canada!
For a 100% authentic Country experience, try any of the following songs:
Hank Williams Jr. - Family Tradition
Randy Travis - Diggin' up Bones
George Strait - Amarillo by Morning
Travis Tritt - Here's a Quarter
That should get you started off right 🙂
@Scotty Prime you are 100% right! All those are straight up pure country
The only song I'd add to this is I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, but this list is PERFECT.
@@breannadeal8610 yes! Can't forget about Hank Sr.
So glad you said that because the only thing country about this song is the guitar and some of the sad lyrics.
Great reaction guys - thanks.
The Eagles were Country Rock. Try some Credence Clearwater Revival.
Southern rock.. that used to be a genre. Same thing lynard skynyrd.. or Eric church were part of. Problem is these days country is pop and southern rock doesnt exist... these days it's just pop and not pop
GOOD MORNING VIETNAM!
other country rock bands: poco, new riders of the purple sage, the flying burrito brothers (featuring the late and heartbreaking gram parsons), pure prairie league -- these were all bands in the early to mid '70s that country rock comprised at the takeoff of the genre. there are current descendants, but they've evolved into their own sounds now, not the same thing. and not to be conflated with southern rock: that's a whole 'nother thing (and includes the allman brothers, little feat, lynyrd skynyrd, and zz top), although the marshall tucker band stands pretty firmly between them.
Southern...not country
eagles were country rock.
Sometimes I cry, Live from the Bing!!!!!!!
Ever hear of Jack Daniels? That's Tennessee Whiskey!
Sippin JD as I am reading your comment...
I put my my hand over my heart when I read that.
Smoooothhh
Shelley Cassada To smooth, goes down so easy. I have to save Jack Daniels night to a special night at home with my husband to see me safely tucked in bed when that smooth hits me hard. Lol.
Gentleman Jack is Tennessee Whiskey.
I was expecting these old boys to look at each other after that song, and one say..." You know of a local pub that serves Jack Daniels??"
God bless you boys...from Colorado.
I mean, you have to do friends in low places by Garth.
They will get blocked. Garth's people block everything.
You can't find Garth on RUclips. Not really. Not even concert snippets. His people scrub RUclips. Completely. Which is unfortunate as I think he's missing a chance to create a younger fan base. His people are idiots.
Hi 2 British Guys, from the States love your reaction to Chris. This song gives me goose bumps. Love it.
You got alot of good music coming ur way
I dont know of you guys know this, but this is a actually a cover of a geroge Jones song! I'd like to hear what you guys have to say about what people consider to be classic country music like George Jones, Waylon Jennings and alot of the older outlaw music. Much love from Florida!
The George Jones version was way more popular than the original but is actually a cover too. David Allan Coe did it first.
The melody from this came from I’d rather go blind by Etta James
David Allen Cole did the original version ...greetings from Texas
George Jones owns this song. Not this girly voice over singer.
@@teasiatwine7533 nice!
I had same reaction ..only yrs later. IV been living under a rock by the looks of it .only just heard this song ...woo .Raunchy. bluesy. Rocky .Listened to it the last few weeks ..Gona learn this .love it .
Chris Stapleton- Nothing Compares to You(Prince cover)
"Home" by Marc Broussard. True blues rock and one hell of an underrated classic.
Yesssss... the entire "Carenceo" album will forever be one of my favorite albums. He's even more amazing live
#lonelynightingeorgia
This is a must do reaction video.. PLEASE. Marc Broussard "Home"
I believe this song is a combination of blues, soul n southern rock and btw its his wife doing the harmonies
Jason Isbell; If We Were Vampires. It's an amazing song.
Definitely. Do Jason Isbell. If we were vampires one the most brilliantly written love songs there is. Elephant, cover me up are also brilliant
That song and Elephant make me cry like a baby. He is from very close to where I live. One of the prides of Alabama!
I could name so many. Something More Than Free...
Love our country music...Chris and wife Morgan are fabulous.
Something I love is that Chris's wife sings his backup ❤
Crisis Stapleton and Morgane singing Amanda is a good one to really hear Morgane's voice.
Shallow Grave by the Steeldrivers Bluegrass featuring Chris Stapleton.
This song was originally done by David Allan Coe followed BY George Jones. All put their own spin on it. Fantastic song.
That's his wife doing background vocals as well.
It was crazy when Chris did this cover. I knew the words but didn't know where it came from. He turned this song into something different and unrecognizable.
@@justinp6839 he definitely put his own style into it. George's version is my favorite but I can appreciate this one.
You guys have only scratched the surface of what country music has to offer.....keep going down the rabbit hole, I assure you that you are going to be amazed.
Chris Stapleton - broken halos. Look it up I'm personally a hip hop fan, like Joey badass, isaiah rashad, kendrick, cole but that song makes me wanna throw a dip in I swear
"Makes me wanna throw a dip in" that got me lol
I mean you've reached the pinnacle of country with this. Check out Sometimes I Cry and I Was Wrong by Chris All the other popular artists you're not gonna love... Some suggestions of more obscure, but talented country musicians.
The Whistler- White Buffalo (live performance)
Don't you want it- White buffalo (live performance)
Colter wall- Devil Wears a suit and tie (live)
Chris's voice is a country girls panty dropper for sure. If you do White Buffalo, The Whistler live, come back and do Chris's Death Row. Wanna go full on in the Blues/rock genre? SRV is the GOAT. Anything live from him is incredible.
So happy you loved this. He is by far one of the best I have heard in years. ❤️
You would love Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats.
S.O.B. is a good place to start
saw them live at shaky knees, turned into a church service for heathens, sublime
Man to another man first reaction:
1st. You do not want to take your woman to see him live.
2nd, "Why not"?
1st, He'll sang her out of her panties"!
Woman: "Feels like after every time she listens to Tennessee Whisky, at the finish, she wants a cigarette and wonders I'f she got pregnant."
Play more of this guys stuff he is original the real deal and live, cripes, ya leave thinking,WTF JUST HAPPENED.
Seek out females first reaction, damn they have eargasms.
Saw them at Red Rock Amphitheater in Colorado, hands down my favorite show I've ever been to!
@@nitwitgamers Hands down the best concert venue out there. I'd love to see them there.
You need to hear the live version it's 🔥
I’m shook this song is damn good coming from a r&b fan 👍🏾
This version of the song uses instrumentals inspired by and sampled from the song "I'd Rather Go Blind," by Etta James, a blues queen in her time, so it absolutely makes sense a rhythm and blues fan would like it!
This is bar room country music to us in Kentucky lol
I love seeing people react to Chris in particular
Always, always, get the stank face on the chorus run in wild
Jason Aldean feat. Miranda Lambert " Drowns the whiskey" is my other fav. Whiskey song.
Miranda Lambert's song" Vice" is awesome as is "Momma's broken heart" or " Tin man"! You can't go wrong with any of her stuff.
yes I freaking love that song !!!!!
The back ground vocalist in this video is Chris Stapletons wife!
Chris Freakin' Stapleton!
My dudes... your reactions to this were incredibly entertaining... y'all had some serious stank face goin' on 😋... thanks for keepin' it real and stayin' genuine 👍
These type of songs remind me of a cool summers night at a fair. With empty beer cans everywhere.
To me I picture a man slow dancing with his girl , just floating on thier own cloud, just lost in each other.
I have watched this reaction a few dozen times and I still laugh at Simon's "Fuck off!" every single time.
The Charlie Daniels Band - The Devil Went Down To Georgia
the zac brown band's live performance of the devil went down to georgia blows my mind - its like watching magic happen
@@abbey2629 this needs to be listened to by anyone
Loooove the devil went down to Georgia.
@@abbey2629 It really is! I guess they sat down and said "how can we make this song even harder for the fiddle player? Oh let's pretty much double the speed" and he rose to that challenge.
Chris Stapleton is literally the best pure Country artist in America, idc what anyone else says
I am dumbfounded that other country artists watch him earn award after award and yet they still churn out absolute pop crap. This is what we crave.
You got no argument from me.
He's breaking through cuz ... It's not really country. ;) It hints at country through.
Country music is uniquely American ... Born out of the southern experience in America ... where country music (roots in Scottish Irish immigrants), southern rock, rythym and blues all merged together. It's story telling, instruments and sangin'.
One of earliest pioneers of southern gospel, blues rock n roll is Elvis Presley who was a big influencer of The Beatles.
Check out Chris Stapleton's IT'S A MAN'S WORLD.
Woah Ryan and George have been white the whole time??
Lmao. This comment is superb!
Lmao, that went over many people's heads. This comment deserves more likes.
