Who’s ready for an SUV v supercar drag race?!
We’ve got Mat lining up in the incredible Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, and he’s going to see if this performance SUV has what it takes to beat a rear-wheel drive R8 over the quarter-mile!
So let’s check out the stats. Starting with the Porsche, it’s packing a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet that can produce 640hp and 850Nm of torque. It drives all four wheels, and it tips the scales at 2,220kg.
As for the R8, it’s powered by a glorious 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 that’s good for 570hp and 550Nm. It’s a whole lot lighter than the Porsche, though, weighing in at 1,590kg.
So the R8 is down on power, but will the massive weight difference prove decisive? There’s only one way to find out - LET’S RACE!

This is more like a lifted car then a real suv……and I don’t know why Matt keeps saying “for a big heavy suv”🙄, the cayenne isn’t that big at all it’s really like a small suv.
Considering Turbo GT is an 2.2 tons elephant witch is capable of carry a hole big family, it simply humiliate R8 (particularly at the break test). Porsche is supreme!
Not forgot RWD 570hp The Real Version do 630hp awd and kill turbo gt
It is impressive without a doubt but I think that RWD R8 is on steel brakes and the Turbo GT has some of THE best carbon ceramic brakes on the market… also some of the largest on the market 😅 that ought to be the reason why it is so close!

@@beatsbyry I think you might just be wrong there - correct me if I’m wrong but the Turbo GT (not the later Cayenne Turbo with GT package or whatever it is called) came on PCCB’s in standard form. I don’t think there was the option to have steel brakes on that car… If it did have steel brakes I’m certain it would stop way after the R8. You can’t cheat physics
Considering how heavy that Cayenne is I am blown away by the performance.

The brakes on the GT is insane, that much more wait and lost by inches,that's nuts!!
At 100mph, 0.1 secs difference in reaction time = 4.5 meters. The side by side brake test is pretty pointless.

Used R8s will be around for decades to come. ICE cars aren't going to just evaporate. In fact in 2030 you'll still be able to buy them, they'll just be hybrids, not ICE only.

@@Radcap97 No I believe many modern cars now have a soft limiter even in the US (if thats where you are from). Tho there are some differences between the EU and the rest of the world, here they also require a petrol particulate filter for new cars which makes them sound worse too.
So sad everytime the same cars. At least do the normal cars like c300 vs a4 45tfsi and 330i. This is so boring Matt
Isn't the solution: put it in drive, pull both paddle shifters towards you at the same time, and it goes in to neutral without the limiter? Does so in my Cayman anyway.

With the Audi Soft Limiter, if you really want to hear it without, roll the car forward slowly, pop it into N while still rolling and you'll have the full rev range.

The Turbo GT is a monster
Like the Turbo S its monster status only applies to its amazing AWD launch control. Once its rolling, its advantage is over. on a sticky surface a car like a 720S beats the Turbo S easily.

7:05 Actually id rather road trip 1000 miles on the highway with the R8. comfort is overrated. Also this is the second time that I'm going to point out the fact that when you start a rolling race in 3rd gear in two different cars with two different gearboxes you aren't taking the transmission out of the equation. it would be better to start each car at the same speed in whichever gear is going to yield similar rpm for both cars and be optimal power for both cars.
100%, these tests are total crap! And I did a 1400 mile roadtrip across Europe in my R8 and it is completely comfortable even with the wingback race seat option!

I believe they confirmed somewhere in the past that they are giving the best time even though its always shown with the last race but it is not clear in the videos generally.

on some cars you can trick soft limiter when you go 5 kmh or 10 kmh and put it in N just give it gas and it should work

I’d have to go with the Porsche for the daily myself cause I live where we get a lot of snow some winter tires on the Porsche I’d be all set. But both incredible rides for sure.
Cayenne is literally just an overpriced Toureg, which sucks both on and offroad. An Audi S4 Avant would be better in EVERY way.

The GT is a true Turbo from Porsche. When floored it reminds me of the 993 Turbo. It puts your head into the head rest and you can feel your eye balls getting pressed into your skull. The first 1000 breakin miles were very difficult.

I made this comment before, and unfortunately im forced to repeat it again.... A V10 is a high revving engine, to get the most power and torque you must go at least 6000/6500rpm, wich you get from the second gear at 50mph, not in third gear.... unfair comparison

The pre face lift version is better cuz its exhaust isn’t as muffled as this one and it has no soft limiter
570hp and 550Nm of torque from a naturally aspirated V10 engine is absolutely insane!
Bmw had 507 HP and 520 Nm out of a naturally aspirated V10 all the way back in the 2000s, 2005 to be exact. I bet the R8 with a tune and a non-restrictive exhaust and admission will go close to, if not above, 600 HP and close to 600 NM as well.

The thing that makes the R8 so special is that it has a naturally aspirated engine …. One of the very last high performance naturally aspirated cars. It should not really still exist… hence its iconic status.

Cayenne Turbo you pay like 170k € and on the turbo GT like 220k… and if you take the turbo s e-hybrid it’s not even that big of a deal anymore… and I took the normal cayenne turbo as example, because for me, there’s no comparison to the rsq8

Well, the EU really isnt at fault. It is probably the Manufacturers installing them willingly.
As you said, so many absolute retards revving the shit out of their cars at a standstill, then complaining about X manufacturer being unreliable when the supercar engine fries.
I just remember videos of Mclaren 600LT (with the top exhausts) being revved for 1-2 mins straight just to get blue flames pop out of the exhausts. Just no mechanical sympathy whatsoever.
I wonder if we could get a drag coefficient number for the cars in the drag races, it doesn't have to be mentioned but it would be good to see in the side by side tables to see how aerodynamic each car is.
Pretty hard info to find from manufacturers in many cases. They dont often make that info public unless its something they want to brag about. It also often varies between various trims of models.
If you want the complete drag figure for force and power calculations, you also need to know the frontal area of the car, which can be hard to find as well.

in the previous timer race the dbx had a 0.2-0.3 sec alower 60 time but still managed to pull back and both were almost exactly the same time

Actually that RWD R8 can do 1/4 mile in 11 secs in a Drag Race which i saw against a Corvette C8
Different road surfaces affect the outcome and also some place allow 1 foot of roll out and some don't. The head to head is more important than the numbers because the road conditions are the same for both cars.
Actually it didn't do that on this surface. Traction matters.

You should know the ”hack” for every softlimiter, I mean any. If you don’t believe me try it out yourself. Put the car in drive and let it start rolling when your at 4 km/h or 5 km/h doesn’t matter, put the car in neutral and start reving👍🏻😃

for the R8 I'm pretty sure u can get it revs higher if u pulled both paddle shifters while in D, it tried it before it works :)

I would prefer the turbo GT performace and car wise but just because of the v10 in the r8 would pick that for the amazing sounds!!!
