When I saw your first video with the Atoll, I knew I had to have it. Unfortunately my camera was not on the compatibility list so I emailed the folks at Silence Corner - with in a half hour the replied with a suggestion the C version but I would need a spacer. They made it clear it has never been tested but they thought that would be the one that worked. It does but with the Smallrig Bottom Plate for Sigma FP/FP L cameras. It moves it forward a bit to give clearance for the battery/sd card door. Works fantastic on my Sigma FP L with that one little modification, so I now use it on my tripod and monopod without complaint. Thanks for bringing this forward. Finding an L bracket for this boutique camera was quite the challenge, your help lead to an even better alternative - cheers.
The Smallrig bottom plate is the spacer, did not need the Atoll spacer, just the C version of the bracket - for clarity.

The Atoll looks like a stroke of Taiwanese genius - a C+ for my Canon R5 is on the way, as is a universal 3-Legged Thing L-bracket for my old 5Diii, as I saw a bargain price (which soon disappeared).

I'm so surprised Smallrig hasn't picked up the modification of the L-bracket. It's just such a good solution to an actual problem.
I have had contact with them they made one for the XT4 mki bracket under my instruction, they are now looking at my instruction on the XT5 L bracket haha

Hi Paul, thanks for the very fair review. One thing I don't think you covered was the ergonomics of shooting hand-held with the Atoll attached. Looks like it may be awkward in terms of balance and lens ring access, especially when shooting in portrait orientation. Seems like an ideal design improvement would a means for easily (tool less) unclipping the 'ring' section of the bracket while keeping the 'capture clip' section attached. It will be interesting to see how this product evolves and if other companies like Smallrig come out with their own versions,
I would like to see how it goes, i know a couple other companies do similar i have one all ready to show. i have to say that i have no problem using it hand held in fact its just fine haha
ATOLL should of already from the start had an extra Adjustable Plate from the Ring to the Camera, so when attaching another lens that you can adjust just a slider closer or further away from the body of the camera to fit & also to give that extra Central balance. i will defo wait until see what other design they come up with before thinking on buying.

Mine does not attach that way. It attaches to the camera where the Lens attaches. Also the part that doesn't work for me is that it has nowhere to attach a Camranger and otherwise this would be perfect for real estate photography.

i must say i like it
I have one, but sadly, it doesn't fit all my Nikon D750 lenses, I love the concept & will hang onto it until I go mirror-less. I never went down the L bracket route, although I could see the benefits it was just too much faffing about, disconnecting every time I wanted to change from to landscape & portrait.
I was keen to try this atoll system out & with a but of adjustment on the sliding bracket that fits to the base of the camera it works with some of my lenses but not my main go to 24 - 120mm when I sent back my results
Silence corner the maker of the Atoll bracket gave me a full refund.
So until i go mirror-less, I will let my friends try it out.
Totally agree with you Paul it's a game changer.
They are making a BIGGER ONE AS WE SPEAK THAT WILL TAKE A LOT MORE LENSES

hi paul mine just arrived from amazon not been out yet but found a minor problem with it fitted to my xh2 is catches the grip so wont turn 360 but ha ho not a deal breaker bon the plus side my 16 55 fuji lens fits so i wondered if our cameras are different sizes also ask if you know if the 80mm macro fits as i am getting one next and this system will lend itself to maco brilliantly
its the length of the fitting plate, i cant move mine closer if i could it would work

Hi Paul, I recently ordered the Model C and it doesn’t fit on my DSLR Canon 90 D. I have purchased the extender plate is that the fix to make it work? If I ordered model D would that have worked out of the box or would I still need the extender plate?

I have the DSLR Canon 90D, I recently purchased the Atoll Model C. However it will not mount to my camera. I purchase the extender plate will the allow it to mount to my Canon 90d now? And should I have simply ordered the model D in the first place?

@@paulcomptonpdphotography according to the website, the model C and D have the same body. The only difference is the the length of the mounting plate. They claim if you put the extension plate on the C than they will both be the same. I purchased the extension plate fingers crossed 🤞 that it works.

You didn't mention the one thing I don't like about my Atoll. You have to take the lens out to attach or remove it from the camera. Otherwise I love it.

@@paulcomptonpdphotography It isn't the most comfortable walking the streets with it on & it is a pain to fit in a small bag fitted to the camera.
you will find it way easier if you turn the plate one click like when its on the capture clip, fits my bag better and my bag is full up and heavy
I am waiting for them to bring out the new one with a larger diameter to fit my L series lenses through at the back. The lens collar on my long lenses is so easy to put into portrait position. I just loosen the screw on collar and turn the lens around. It works in a similar way and as quickly as the Attol. Can you do that with the collar on your long lens?

Think i’ll keep my Smallrig L-bracket. Im not in such hurry that i need to save 3 sec.
Think i will set myself a date for when you are back to the L-bracket and the Atoll is in the bin.
1. Flex is not an option, if you can move it with just touching the camera as you did. THE TRIPOD WAS ON THE CARPET AND RUG, IN THE OUTDOORS YOU CANT SEE ANY MOVMENT
2. It’s ugly, big and in the way of the aperture ring, ITS NOT REALLY IN THE WAY AND THE LOOK IS PART OF THE DESIGN, FOR THE EASY AND SPEAD AND THE USE OF THE SIDE OF TEH CAMERA UGLY DONT COME INTO IT LOL
3. Almost £100, not worth it. WHATS NEW SOME L BRACKETS ARE £100 MOST SMALLRIG ONES ARE £65 AND YOU GET THE PD PLATE ON IT..
