@@geoderrick it’s not like that at all it’s more like the govt will benefit as those who can afford or get accepted for loans start importing newer cars for Uber use, and thus pay the taxes. The Kenyan system prohibits old cars it doesn’t support them. I think it’s a wrong mentality for our country (it’s not even preferred in countries like the UK to force taxis to be new but people suffer with it and the wages are higher so it works somehow) but each to their opinion. But if you know the inflated prices of cars (yes the govt should reduce tax but they likely won’t as they want as much profit as possible like a business) and the low income compared to the price of cars it’s crazy to force such age limits. In the UK you can buy a 2015 car for 150k equivalent here they start at 800k last I checked. So you can’t bring such rules here but Uber doesn’t care they only care about their image, rather than showing they care about the country and the people by making it easier instead of harder. Personally I’d put the emphasis on comfort than age, a 2000 Camry is more comfortable than a 2015 Alto. But I’m biased as I’m not a fan of small cars. Anyway those who can import should bring in some diesels like VW Passat and similar for the fuel economy of an Alto (or better) with the comfort of well everyone knows the Passat, right?
Usijam sana tuko wengi let's wait n see how uber will handle surplus of demand before they feel the pinch n review their requirements...if they win we loose but short term before new investors seize the opportunity of online taxi in kenya..
i am glad i got out of this business in 2017 because at that point as a partner i realized there is no way for you to break even within a year or two not unless you have two drivers working on commission per vehicle so that the vehicle can operate 24hrs instead of leasing the vehicle to one driver for a daily rate.
Kenyan tax drivers come together.Explore tv lead the way. Registration should have started yesterday. I expect some progress by the end of the week on this channel. Actualise your dream.
That's terrible 😢it seams we will be working just to buy cars ....you buy a car before you pay the loan pufff Uber eliminate it out then you go back to high purchase
Uber is an international company so they want to offer almost similar services to over 100 countries its like KFC or MacDonalds ,so the question is will third world countries manage the standards, better government introduces new business opportunities so as not to saturate the market, kila mtu ni uber uber 😢😢
I knew this was going to happen. I'm actually surprised that they have given a 2026 deadline instead of 2025. By the way, other apps will follow the same trend. No app wants to be associated with 'old' vehicles.
At least they give some time for people to save up to “upgrade”. But these rules of theirs just promote wastage of vehicles based on age instead of condition.
Uber its like they are creating space for their own cars . Hakuna vile utanunua gari ya 900k itolewe kwa barabara na 4yrs. Wasisubue watu, fanya na hao wengine.
I dont undstand why u should cry ...car Yom 2012 they assume u bought it at that year as new so meaning it have been serving u all that time almost 12yrs down the line
This is not sustainable. We will have a surplus of older and serviceable vehicles flooding the market. Also in these tough economic times, they are locking out so many people who make a living through online taxi business. Do they realize the market they are operating in?
This is the exact same thing I’ve thinking. They just need to ensure the vehicles are roadworthy. Age has nothing to do with that, someone can abuse a 2024 vehicle until it’s more unsafe than the typical old KAW matatu. Likewise someone can have a well maintained and safe 1964 vehicle.
Uber has gone full circle to accomodate everyone if you know the business long enough. These changes were expected if you follow what they are doing in stable markets. The smaller engines might be next out.
Uber have done well on that point. We are out here waiting for those throw away prices on uber cars so that we buy them for our house old folks. All the same its a win win situation for both parties.
I think what we are seeing happen here is that there is no scenario where the Uber riders win & customers lose. Uber is an international company trying to play a balancing act in more than 100 countries. We need a home grown solution that is regulated according to our needs. We cannot expect Uber to change in our favour and it has been in Kenya for 9 years now. Uber will not lose their customers in the name of pleasing the drivers. We need to build our own.
My friend, never mind. A new company will come up that will admit all those disregarded by uber.
Unite and create our own platform, leave these Ubers
Yes we really should, and allow any vehicle of any age as long as it’s roadworthy, and comfortable for passengers.
Si kuna faras
Btw this is a very nice idea...us kenyans should make our own platform advertise it everywhere around kenya and even neighbouring countries..
The problem is we Kenyans we dont want our own at all .....we have our own kd,faras...i don't know until when we shall accept our products
@ yeah that’s the problem, passengers want what they see abroad not the local stuff.
People should accept changes. some of these vehicles are unserviceable they don't reach costumes destination without issues
Thanks Ubber. First wake up call to citizen to push government into removing the inverted ugly car taxation system supporting old cars

You ca break even in 2 years with a vehicle with a purchase cost not exceeding 700,000/-
If its not profitable or will take long to break even dont invest, eventually the market will balance

Why not just go to the other taxi - competition platforms? Let drivers patronise the other digital taxi platforms... Instead of worrying about Uber.
NIAJE, sasa Totota spade itakuwa category ngani? Is it Comfort ama Chap chap???
Banks have business now 😃😁

No world third country, they steal from those calling 3rd world.

Very sorry man, i can imagine what you feel, uber is unfair, they are a bully. Lets complain to the government about this Bully.
It's not our app ,you have to dance to their tunes

I think other apps should do the same thing ,,atleast tutoe jam ya magari kwa market,,uuza izo mzee ununue ingine
the car can work on other apps like bolt, little, kd, faras. ama pia nazo ziko na hii limit?
How about bolt, little, Taxify etc etc are they affected?
How much is a 2014 Nissan Mach
My friend have a beautiful demio 2012 model but look like a new one
I think all drivers should abandon Uber app and maximize on bolt and other apps coz for me Uber wakona utiaji sana ,,what is this??
You think it's their loss😂
@bonfacewachira3297 just to express our dissatisfaction by Uber,
Those who can afford the new cars will be in big business
😢
@ergaba08 eventually those new cars will become old ,,Uber is making this game harder for everyone
If you're cars are in good condition sell them and upgrade.
Is it only Uber or also bolt
I always tell drivers you only win for 1 month and lose 11 months

Sorry bro,,, but thanks for the info
11:30 300k are u sure
The reason hire purchase is the best
N the cycle continues slavery slavery
Car dealers are happy

Hapo ni zimmerman?
Time to buy cars thrown out of uber
Good information
And next year 2013 and older kei cars prices will go down
Since drivers decided not and never to come together. This apps will forever control them
Wueh! I also invested with a 2012 vitz. Nakuambia kimeumana.
