We switched things up a bit and decided to try our hand at bicycle touring and not just a short one. With a quick internet search of "long bike trails on the east coast" the top search was www.greenway.org. The East Coast Greenway with a detailed map appeared with only of handful of people that completed it from end to end. With not a lot of time to find bikes, panniers, and all the gear needed for our almost 3000 mile bike ride from Maine to Florida, we scrabbled to get ready. To be honest, we didn't think everything through as much as we could have but it left us with a lot of unknown and the ability to take each day as it came. Could we have been more prepared… totally but what is the fun in that? As we started our journey south along the east coast greenway we were naive but excited to what the trail would bring.
In today's video, we take you through the amazing network of greenways that are in North Carolina. North Carolina is one of those states that the East Coast Greenway has done a fantastic job of getting you off the roads and onto miles and miles of endless trails. The network of greenway trails through the Durham to Raleigh section of the North Carolina makes you wish the whole trail could be this way. We were so impressed with how awesome this area of North Carolina was connected! Let's just say we were a bit spoiled from this state and now were starting to get a little nervous about what lies ahead in South Carolina…..
You can learn more about the East Coast Greenway (ECG) and how wonderful the organization at www.greenway.org
We hope you enjoy this video and comment below if you have any question about any gear or about the East Coast Greenway we would be more than happy talk about it. We would love to hear from you!

I grew up near Raleigh/Durham/Cary and ran on so much of that part of your path regularly. It looks like you came through at peak fall color. I love it there so much!

Loved seeing the American Tobacco Trail, White Oak Creek Greenway, Black Creek Greenway, Umstead State Park, Reedy Creek Greenway, and Walnut Creek Greenway. All routes I know well. We probably did not cross paths, depending on what dates you went through that section. But it is familiar ground regardless. Great to see it on the vlog!

I must say those greenways are really nice. I'm looking forward to seeing them myself. They are in my home state. I have no excuses.

Been watching all of your videos. Such a great experience and even tho I'm approaching 70, I've put this on my bucket list. Just curious, unless I missed it, I didn't see either of you using a rear view mirror? And cold pizza? Not sure I can do that. LOL. Keep on rolling!!!!

We ordered them when we got to SC. I used it for the rest of the ride from there. Although, it did take some time to get used to it. It's never too late to add it to your bucket list. We did the GAP and C&O this year and those trails are a total of 335 miles, no traffic, and well maintained. Videos should be out soon. If you are looking for something shorter and less traffic.

Nothing too steep on the ECG. Rolling hill in Maine and Virginia that felt tough at times with the dog trailer but not too bad.

Living on the west coast l may try the Greenway route but highway 17 in South Carolina sounds scary as hell especially when you mentioned that a cyclist was killed about a week after you were in South Carolina. I actually watched all of your videos and I enjoyed them . jim

How is it riding/pulling a dog in a trailer behind your bicycle? Is it hard, easy? I ask this because I have a 30lb dachshund that will also be placed in a pet trailer behind one of my bicycles to do (in the beginning) local bike touring and camping. I just received the trailer and since it can also convert into a stroller I had her and my other smaller dog both in it as I walked them in it around my apt. complex.

With Maisha we have a total of 100lbs between the trailer and her. You don't really feel it at all with level ground and downhills. Uphill it is a struggle but if the hill is really steep sometimes we just have her get out and run or walk along the trailer. The longer you bike tour the more you just get used to it. But the smile on her face makes it all worth it.

@@suits2sandals Thanks for responding; If Sophia is around 30lbs...lugging her on my bicycle (especially on a electric bike) should be no problem. :) I look forward to riding with both of my best friends that are always good company.
