    Alone at work! Time for a quick tour of what I do and where I do it. At the time of recording, we were still moving from our old location, so this place is not as organized as it should be. Enjoy!

    Really, really enjoyed the video. That's my dream place to own a place like that, it's full of tech. IT is about diversifying the areas you cover to and you've definately covered a lot there. Everytime I think you were finished the rooms kept going. It would be nice to see an updated video of the place tidied up too

      appleontheapex Great, I forgot to comment in your quiet room I had a laugh when I saw the tools of trade for dismantling was a great big hammer too :) also you seem full of great ideas Re the workbench. Ofcourse it's a good idea of you thought of it yourself :D

    That is a nice building. I like how you've organized a lot of the stuff into bins. I wish I had the room to do something like that. Most of my space is used for my 9 benches but I try not to have too much stuff collecting if I can help it. One thing I might suggest, my benches are laid out much the same as yours and I would suggest you consider putting up some peg or slat board along the wall of the benches you have. It is really nice to set up pegs to lay keyboards on, set shelving on, wrap cables around and I keep cd's on them too. I also have some hangers for screw drivers. Those wire baskets for the slat board would probably come in handy too over the benches.

    yeah Just checking this out because I realized I"m propably going to have to work for myself, and also think I'm going to take the A+ cerification instead of going to get a bachelors degree. I'm really trying to get a job in this field. Its my dream and my passion since the first time I was exposed to hands on training repaiing computers, but I just wanted to share this mainly just to say I'm 40 years old, but at one point I was incarcerated for a decade for defending my self, but I still put some of the blame on me because around that time I was doing and hanging in places that I had no buisness being in them places. Im saying all this basicallly is since my release I achieved my associates degree in computer in elecronic engineering thinking that if I achieved that maybe employers would look past my conviction and look at my present position, but not the case and prettty soon I'll probaly be another man with loans debts and unpaid tuition. After watching this and reading your guys comments just created a passion and addiction to hire myself for my own position!!! If you guys know anybody that might want to hire let me know i'l travel im from philadelphia. I alsoo really think I can pass that A+ certification. sorry if this post was to long but its how I was feeling at this time.

    • @appleontheapex
      @appleontheapex  4 года назад

      At the time of making this video (I also have 3 more tours from later years) there were two of us. Customers per day was anywhere from 2 to 30, and I couldn't tell you why! The business is still going now in June 2020, but has moved to a new location, and only the owner works there now. Business is quite slow, but he makes up for it by doing more consulting.

    I tried looking into it but where i live nitric acid requires a licence

    • @appleontheapex
      @appleontheapex  9 лет назад +1

      We don't do any precious metal retrieval from e-waste. We simply break it down as small as we can get it and drive it over to our recycler. Most of what we do involves separating the copper from heat sinks and fans, or cutting off the gold fingers on cards.

    quick question - As a repair shop , how is the software licensing handled? Example a client's device has Win 7 with MS office 2010 which has crashed etc and they don't have the keys available.

    • @appleontheapex
      @appleontheapex  9 лет назад +1

      We usually just use our volume license key for all loads because that's easiest. However, we do use a tool called "ProduKey" to save any existing keys. If Office is present, we use their key.

    Thank you for sharing with us but I would to ask about image installation from the network server.
    In other words when imaging operating system from the network, what procedures do you follow?

    • @appleontheapex
      @appleontheapex  9 лет назад +1

      We do not do any network imaging on our customers' machines. Our method of installation is to remove the drive and image it from a ghost image using Norton Ghost. We have pre-made loads for different types of chipsets. So we copy data off to the tech machine, image it, dump the data back on and it's ready to go.

    • @appleontheapex

      Paul Rhodes I would go to eBay and buy the cheapest VESA wall mount they have. I have seen them for less than $15

    • @appleontheapex
      @appleontheapex  9 лет назад

      ***** We do this for our server rack because most of the stuff is sitting there for hours unattended. Anything plugged in to the wall monitors is usually being worked on, sometimes by more than one tech at a time. Also, there is a power cord for PCs in the bundle of cables so it's always there when we need it.

      Other the going to school for this kind of thing, the best way to learn is by doing. Yes, employers love to see a degree, but it's the experience that they look for. Anyone can get a degree, but fewer can actually apply that knowledge to real-world situations.
      My suggestion - Put a wanted ad on Craigslist. Ask for donations of old electronics. People will gladly give you things for free, or just a little bit of cash.

    • @appleontheapex
      @appleontheapex  10 лет назад

      Windows XP does everything we need it to and it has for years. No need to change what works! It's busy enough that we can make a pretty decent living from working there. However, you are right. It's a slowly dying industry. Computers are made to be disposable, and it's the sad truth

      Chris Stone It's true, but for various reasons, we never have cared about Windows support. It's no less secure than it was before. I won't go too far into why because it causes arguments lol. But yes, Windows XP is still our main OS, on the tech machines and counter machines
