I recommend anyone getting into this to at least read the Comptia A+ 1101 + 1102 certification book from Mike Meyers who is the top IT author. Book is well written, easy to sit down and read 40 pages without banging your head on the wall. I currently go to school for Networking + Cybersecurity, also have an IT HelpDesk position, what I am learning from this book is more than what the college taught me and is assisting me with knowledge in my position. I am planning on starting a PC Repair business on the side after getting through more of the book.

This video is way more useful then the last one I watched, where the guy just said "know everything". I left a salty comment about how that is both impossible and not necessary. You don't need to know everything, you just need to get really good at finding answers.

That's exactly right. I've been messing with computers since 1994 and everything I know I accumulated by trial and error and I definitely don't know everything. But I guarantee I can solve most end user problems. Like this guy states, most PC issues can be solved by backing data up and reinstalling windows, short of hardware issues. Those require a little knowledge or experience.

electronic repair is very complex. if you do phone repair you don't need to learn electronics. but if you are doing computer you may need it to go deeper like board repairs.

@@aktech3271 facts people just assume you can "restore" a PC by reinstalling windows, thats far from the truth, what if it was for a Business that needed that information, you cant just simply nuke the PC and start over, a beginner wouldn't know to do certain measures to combat a virus for example. i think manually uninstalling a virus is more vital then just simply reinstalling windows

@@heldscissors4132 I work in K-12 IT and we have a rather large number of Chromebooks that we've had to trash (send to e-waste technically) because the USB-C port gets damaged intentionally or unintentionally by students. The Chromebooks we support don't have modular ports so we can't easily replace the port in-house. We don't have the tools, training, and most importantly, time to devote fixing 10's of Chromebooks with bad USB-C ports. Its the same issue with some of our staff devices. They have USB-C ports and over time they fail because teachers put papers or other heavy objects near the cable connector (even though we specifically ask them not to do that) and it sucks because have to trash otherwise good devices.

I havent gotten into this but might. A freind of mine payed me 150 dollars to clean his desktop an get it running. it was dead, dirty, and abused. Had so many viruses that windows wouldnt function so i asked him if i could go ahead and wipe it. Nothing in cmd would work and desktop crashed after loading into windows. goes black. So i went into recovery settings and installed a useable software. From there i installed win 10 pro and completely formatted all his drives. Updated the bios too. Cleaned heatsinks in clorox/hot water with no electronics attached then completely dried, mobo cleaned in isopropyl. Its not hard to do any of this and its a useful skill to have. I dont have any special tools besides an arrangement of screwdrivers and thermal paste. Toothbrush helps too and the neccecarys as mentioned in this guys video like usb for windows install, drivers, or bios. More extensive work needs soldering equipment and electrical tools. Which i dont have, but you can always replace parts and narrow your problem if your friend/ costumer is ok with that.
