Phra Dan (Bhante Dhammarakkhita, Bhikkhu) is a Theravada Buddhist Monk who lived in India from 2020 and Thailand from 2023. Born in Sussex, England in 1967. Educated by French Catholic Monks. A successful businessman in Estate Agency and Financial Services during the 1980's and 90's. Married, now divorced with 3 adult son's. 2000 marked change and travel including South Africa returning to the UK in 2003 to continue different work and business activities until 2012. Gradually materialistic values turned to renunciation, simplicity and meditation, living nomadically in an old Ford Transit van full time for 3 years. VanLife and meditation led to Buddhism and a Thai Forest Tradition, Theravada Buddhist Monastery in the UK. During 2015 travelling the Buddhist Holy Sites of India, deep faith reinforced desire for Ordination. In 2020 after 5 years of intensive meditation practice between Thai Forest Monasteries in Thailand and England he was Ordained in India where he lived for 3 years until returning to Thailand in 2023.

I was also born in 1967 and converted to Buddhism two years ago after a life-changing experience with a benevolent presence filling me with joy in renunciation of my ego. But I became a father 14 years ago and trying to live as much on the path to liberation as possible but in the challenges which a worldly lifestyle is giving you on a daily basis. I have not found a sangha at my hometown but I am respecting and studying the dharma and feel at home here. I think sooner or later my realisation of the ultimate truth will change my life and of all sentient beings for the better, meanwhile I will sit and meditate and respect the eightfold path.

Supper info. This was so interesting and thank you for sharing this lovely video Ven. Dhammarakkhita! With many blessings, Ven. Dhammo from Canada.
Thank you for your comment Venerable Dhammo. Maybe you could email me, monk to monk...
Thank you very much for explanations bhante.
I think renouncing the worldly life makes more sense than the worldly life (everything we have and the people we are attached to must be left behind one day...) but after a 30day-retreat in a Thailand Monastery (Wat Pah Nanachat) as "servant", I know that I am not ready to do so yet because my kilesa and my attachments are still very strong. But maybe one day (or life haha)...
Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu Anumodana for 30 days WPN! Very tough!. I don't know what country you are in or your Nationality but maybe try staying at a small local monastery for an alternative experience. Thank you for your interest and encouragement. I wish you well in your practice. Sukhi Hontu 🙏
@@englishmonk Thank you 🙏
I live in France and there are no established Theravada monasteries.
You can practice in the monastery of your heart and mind with the help of online resources. May your practice be fruitful. Blessings with mettā. Sukhi Hontu 🙏

Interesting, beautiful and quite inspiring. Gratitude for the time and the video. The idea of becoming a monk has often popped in my mind, but I do not think I am either ready to such radical lifestyle change or do not know if it is for me. Also I am fundamentally a Buddhist as in following the 5 precepts, and keep a meditative practice (but not regular I would have to admit) but I basically believe in a supreme deity, which I am not sure would fit well within the Buddhist mindset, or if that would even be accepted. I am a fan of Near Death Experiences and spoke to some who had them even, and they all speak of a Source of Love, where we come back. Much love and light in your path.
Thank you for your comments and interesting questions. I had just finished answering these and it disappeared, anicca! So I would like to address these ideas in my next video which is also useful for other viewers. I am grateful for your useful contribution.. 🙏

Many unwholesome aspects of my mind present, that I confess and confront. 227 rules would be more than I could remember and follow with all the prohibitions. And it is a longer process than that to become a surgical specialist. Did Buddhist teachers talk about what distinguishes them from a cult?
There's only one rule, do no harm the others just support this intention. What is a cult?
Hello, thanks for sharing. Just curious, why did you not ordain in England? I live here and was thinking of exploring the Thai Forest monasteries we have here.
Thank you for watching and your comments. I will talk about this in a Q&A's video coming soon.

Here is a question, if an ordained monastic cannot cook but also lives on his own, how does one feed him/herself if even once a day.
I go to the village every morning and people put cooked food in my bowl. Be happy and stay well
@@englishmonk ok, makes sense. I always saw videos of food being prepared at the monastery, and never saw monks receive prepped food. That's why I asked
When i was in college 1st year, i wanted to run away to the mountains to become a monk but my mother cried a lot and stopped me..
Yes, that happens. My mother my sister too but now they're very happy that I am happy and maybe they're getting a bit of Dhamma too. Thank you for your watching and your comments. Please visit again and SUBSCRIBE if you haven't. Be happy and well 🙏

Here in Australia it's hard to find any monastary at all. There is one in Perth but they have a waiting list and don't have many rooms. What should I do Phra Dan? I am eager to start but don't know how in my position
