“Reverend Sāriputta, in this teaching and training, what is hard to do?”
“Going forth, reverend, is hard to do in this teaching and training.”
“But what’s hard to do for someone who has gone forth?”
“When you’ve gone forth it’s hard to be satisfied.”
“But what’s hard to do for someone who is satisfied?”
“When you’re satisfied, it’s hard to practice in line with the teaching.”
“But if a mendicant practices in line with the teaching, will it take them long to become a perfected one?”
    “Not long, reverend.” - Sn39.16

Whats the point in externally going forth?
If you, as an authentic person or one who has a sense of shame, are going to formally take up the designation of 'renunciant monastic' then that situation would assist you in your striving for the cultivation of qualities that make that designation completely true. In other words, it will accentuate your intention of striving for freedom from samsara. Taking on the formal boundaries of monastic discipline can, for a person who doesnt lie to themselves, create a situation which accelarates and promotes ones striving.
There will also be an extra pressure felt which motivates you to live up to your designation, and that is the fact that other people will be supporting you to do so, and as an authentic, considerate person it will be hard for you to cover that up and therefore you will more likely make the effort to train yourself not only for yourself but also for those others so that their offerings to you bring benefit to them.
The going forth, exposes you to yourself and others, the going forth is like open air, compared to the confinement of the common household lifestyle where there are many corners to hide in.

I suppose it's like any other skill you don't need to join school or academia to learn maths or science, you don't need to go to gym to exercise but it does help going there

Or it might not help, if the monastic environment is actually more crowded, distracting, or exposing one to sensuality than their lay life. Which is certainly possible in many monasteries or temples existing today.

The point is long unbroken periods of concentration, wherever that can be found.

I will sometimes bring forth the theme of imminent ordination in order to highlight that which I am holding dear as a householder. Much like death meditation - although slightly less sharp - it is helpful to reveal any cover-ups and over-estimated mental strength I may be harboring. It's far too easy to romanticize giving it all up for a life as a forest monk, but correctly allowing that context to threaten one's present assumed comforts and safety will more than likely sober one up quite quickly. It's in that sober mindset that one can discern where the real work needs to be done.

Absolutely so, to say nothing of actually taking on that lifestyle with no set endpoint - terrifying.
Even in the case where there is no clear and present danger, where requisites are easy to get, the new life of renunciation can lead one to an extreme sense of doubt and uncertainty that lingers in one's gut for years.
      Nanavira said,
Feelings of fear and helplessness at times of sickness or danger are very unpleasant, but they can also be very instructive. At such times one may get an almost pure view of bhavatanhā, craving for existence. The fear is not fear of anything in particular (though there may also be that), but rather of ceasing to exist, and the helplessness is an absolute helplessness in the face of impending annihilation.

I would love to be a monk still live and do what I have to do for my daughter, but if I stay as what I am now because I understand what I am ,people around dont know what I am in and so I choose being a momk rather than being in this form internally and externally, not for the sake of robes, but I realize that neither people nor places or things can give you happiness and you need clothes only to cover your body and food to survive the body healthy which is also not permanent. I would appreciate if anyone can guide me. 🙏

Thanks for sharing this essay. I hope this is a sign we will be granted more content from Thaniyo Thero in the future.
He writes: "I could think that bodily death will result in my eternal happiness." Before taking up the practice, this was THE view that allowed me to sleep soundly at night. Once the practice forced me to start undoing my assumptions, I had to admit I absolutely had no idea if death would really free me from my suffering. This resulted in a penetrating anxiety and un-ignorable concern of potentially wasting an opportunity to develop the necessary wisdom in this lifetime. It continues to remain one of the primary motivators of my practice.

These responses are generated prior to her even finishing the thought. So either he isn't listening and has the answer already ready, or isn't digesting her statement fully and reflecting on his response. Either way, I was surprised by this 'i have an answer for that' type of dialogue.
