This man is fast becoming one of the best horror directors working today. He writes, directs, and edits his movies. So, he is completely responsible for every movie he makes. I've liked everything I've seen from him so far and I can't wait to see his adaptation of Stephen King's Gerald's Game later this year on Netflix and I look forward to everything he does in the future. He's definitely a director to keep an eye on, because I have no doubt that he's going to be a household name within the next few years.

I loved the movies he make. It's very chilling and scary, with tons of real horror, the great horror movies that I liked from him was Bwfore I Wake and Ouija: Origin of Evil. So excited to see his next horror movie: Doctor Sleep, the sequel to the 1980's The Shining.

Tiago Antônio Not technically Ouija 2 was surprisingly really good. And, honestly, I wasn’t really the best belief that a horror sequel or prequel good be that good, let alone compared to this drastically much worse first movie. I haven’t seen Oculus, but man, has Mike Flanagan really been on a role. Henry Thomas is also surprisingly always a win when it comes to his movies. Not that he’s been bad, although Dear John wasn’t his best role (bet ya you didn’t know that did ya?), though kinda obvious since Nick Sparks wrote the original book...but he’s been really, really good in every scene he was in. Now comes my least favorite Flanagan movie, Before I wake. I didn’t really like this one all that much. Performances were fine, except for Jacob Tremblay, who especially after Room, really seemed to up his game since Smurfs 2 (bet ya you didn’t know that, either), but this was a movie that I guess tries to be scary and touching at the same time, but it doesn’t always work. I actually really applaud them for trying to not be just a scary film, but there’s also not much suspense or negative drama to really be engaged with the dramatic places, either. She’s becoming obsessed with seeing her son again, but even though I do feel it, nothing much of consequence comes after that, not to mention, nothing sinister feels like it’s in the background. The sinister stuff occasionally comes when it attacks Tremblay, and then it’s somewhat gone again. The scary scenes contain pretty well-earned jump scares, but those scenes themselves feel paradoxically like they are the unearned and annoying jump scares, which is really disappointing even for Flanagan. Yet, they are necessary to suggest the worst. The performances from the adults I was at first really digging, but I now realize that nobody feels desperate in this movie when they’re supposed to. The closest we come or genuine terror is when his nightmares start to devour the dad, but that’s about it. The closest we come to the mom looking desperate is her just saying that she won’t let the husband take her son away again. Shocking, but again, it’s dialogue, not acting. Actually this does set up an interesting conflict be husband and wife. Why couldn’t it be about him trying to stop his wife from accidentally destroying their new son (not literally, although with his nightmares I’m not surprised if it is) and their new family? Come to think of it, I now wonder what it would have been like to cast Henry Thomas as the dad, but casting choices aside, there’s so much interesting stuff not explored in that movie. Heck, especially since the young kid is the one actually getting scared, couldn’t it have made it more interesting since the mom is trying to manipulate how his dreams work? She’s forcing it on him to dream about their son, and all of a sudden, she really becomes a sinister force without even knowing it!! That’s even scarier than just the parents trying to overcome their son’s death. He’s trying to control his dreams to keep people safe, but she trying to control his dreams to get what she wants!! It’s a play on whose the bad guy!

This guy has not made a single bad movie yet, the guy is a horror genius. One of my favourite horror director's along with Jordan Peele and Ari Aster.

He's one the pinnacles of this era of the horror genre.
