After the poor reception of Exorcist: Believer, Mike Flanagan has stepped in to write and direct a brand new Exorcist movie for Blumhouse. Is this a smart move...?
Enjoy!

It’s certainly in much better hands now
I think Doctor Sleep is a masterpiece so I'm geeked for this news! I heard a while ago that Flanagan had submitted a pitch to Wes Craven's estate to make a new Elm Street film (which I was excited about) but The Exorcist needs his help more. Especially after Believer killed the franchise again. I don't think there are any financially successful Exorcist films except the original, and no matter how you feel about the 2010 Elm Street remake, it was still a hit financially. So go off Mr. Flanagan. I'm sure you'll make another classic.
Looking forward to seeing what he will do with this franchise
Midnight Mass was also fantastic by Flanagan. Dealt with religious elements as well. It even had a mysterious priest character. I'd rank it right up there with Hill House. Definitely think Flanagan is the right guy for the job.
I like a lot of Flanagan's movies, but I'm not sure he's the right fit for The Exorcist - his style is bit too gothic, imo. He can be very 'costume drama' and stagey. I miss the soft-documentary style of Friedkin. I'd prefer to see a reliable old hand like Lynne Ramsay or a total newbie like Goran Stolevski. Something different.
Intrigued! Apparently Believer we'll be the last time we see Regan and Chris MacNeil...
Yessss.
at this point I wouldn't be surprised if it's going to be The Exorcist: Goes to Hawaii lol
the problem today is they're too afraid to risk taking a chance on giving someone creative freedom
Ah yes the Ole jack frost treatment
kinda disappointed that they're going to apparently forget Believer's story/characters and start afresh. I wanted to see what happens to Katherine... Still, I'm very interested in the new movie
This COULD be good but then I remembered how doctor sleep turned out 😢
Mike uses CGI at times in his films, has a certain style that may or may not work for Exorcist, and he overuses color grading at times. His films also make no money... yet he's the first choice for a new Exorcist film? I don't know.
I'd rather someone interesting and unpredictable like a Werner Herzog.
Whenever they try to go a new way of an old classic, bound to be a disaster. The original is a classic for a reason. Just saying
