Have fun with these do-it-yourself LED lights that go around your monitor. They are easy to build and the materials are not at all expensive. All you have to do is strip a fiber optic cable, and then glue them to the back of a foam board whilst using a flashing RGB LED to power the other end. The highly focused fiber optic cables bring the light through the cables and disperses them for a cool effect!
PLUG: Thanks to Verizon FiOs for supplying the fiber optic cable. Only Verizon FiOS gives all its customers SpeedMatch. This means you get upload speeds that match your download speeds.
Materials Used for this DIY Project:
    - Fiber optic cable
    - Color-changing RGB LEDs
    - 330 ohm resistors
    - Vinyl tubing
    - Old monitor
    - Black foam board, 1/8” thick

    I tried this.
Bad News: I didn't have any fibre optic wire so I just tried fraying my computer charger wire and using that
Good News: This hospital offers Wi-Fi so I can post this comment.

Doesn't anyone want to thank Kip for a pretty good project, and not placing the ad in the middle of the video(like most of you guys were complaining about in the last video)? I personally like this way better, with an intro ad, and an outro ad, so it isn't so distracting...

It's funny how amazing the up/down matching is. We have it all the place, only the very cheap internet services provide more down than up. Actually you can even choose using a switch in your house. So if i want to upload something, i switch over to 10/90 and if i wanna download 90/10 or just balanced at 50/50

I did not notice if you did this or not, but if you change up the location of the Fiber and put various strands from each of the 3 leads into each of the 3 panels it may give a more versatile arrangement of color. The way it is now it seems to just blink in a certain area all at the same time while the way I suggest will allow it to blink on all 3 panels at the same time. Just a suggestion. Also if you can say where you found the fiber optic cable that would be great... Thanks...

Those are technically "fiber optic" cables, but not anywhere close to what is actually installed to carry data. The cables you have are plastic and what they use for show-and-tell and build the cool fiber optic lamps and Christmas trees with.
Real fiber optic cables that carry data are color-coded and have actual glass cores that are 9µm singlemode and 50µm multimode.

      @ronkkrop 10 лет назад

It's not so much that there's ads. A lot of channels have in-video sponsorship, and i'm fine with it, it pays to keep these people/teams focused on the quality of the videos. The problem people have is that he keeps releasing really terrible videos with most of it being advertisements. He doesn't even care that the stuff he's coming up with lately is complete crap, he just wants to make a quick buck. He's welcome to do that but I'm not going to continue watching advertisements if there's nothing in it for me...

I'm not sure WHY such an experienced DYI'er would do such a thing, film it, and tell others to do it.
But in no way shape or form, does is it safe, nor will it help you cut threw. It just gives you a really good chance of slicing your finger to the bone! :D

Have you every looked through a fish tank? You can see right through it but when you look at the sides it is like a mirror, when you know it is just another pane of glass. That is how fiber optics work. You have a core of dirty glass, known as doped glass. And that doped glass is surrounded by clean glass. And then you get that fish tank effect and the light shines down the fiber and not out.
