A photo captured by Richard Helyer was my inspiration for writing “Welcome Winter” in 2020 (photo shown on the back cover of the Vinyl and inside the CD case). I instantly imagined a couple walking through that vineyard on a quiet winter evening, the crisp sound of snow underfoot as they make their way to a nearby gathering of friends.
The west coast of Michigan, where Richard took this photo, is known for its beaches, wineries, and summer fun. After tourists depart for the season, nature shrouds the area in a blanket of snow. It is just the permission needed to pause, reflect, and think of new beginnings to come. Perhaps "Welcome Winter" is a love song - a love of winter, the tranquil landscape, and the beauty of celebrations with family and friends during this magical time of the year.
