Dr Dray made some excelent points in this video! She's so right, lash extensions can be very damaging to your lashes and eye ball when in the wrong hands. These are YOUR EYES we're talking about here. However, NOT ALL LASH EXTENSION SERVICES ARE BAD FOR YOUR EYE AND LASH HEALTH. This depends where you go and the level of knowledge and skill of your lash technician. I have a very in-depth video about lash extensions on my page and why they cause damage and what doesn't cause damage. YES - there is such a thing as damage-free lash application. I have been doing eyelash extensions for 5 years now and I encourage all my clients visit their optometrist at least yearly not only to maintain their eye health but also to check their lashes. All of my clients, including clients I've been lashing for the whole 5 years WITHOUT A BREAK told me their optometrist said their lashes and eye health were in PERFECT condition. I think it is great Dr Dray posted this video, as people need to become more aware of the risks and why its so important to do your research when choosing a lash tech. Much love, Emily - Bayside Lashes
I am an ophthalmologist and I agree with everything you said. Thanks for making such an informative and well-researched PSA on this topic and explaining things in clear and understandable terms as always. Now I can just refer my patients to this video! 🤓
I’m an optometrist and I’ve been waiting for someone with a large platform to make this video! All of these points I try to get across to my patients with lash extensions, particularly those who already suffer from dry eyes (but of course goes nowhere). It may sound like it’s no big deal, just use some lubricating eye drops and you’ll be fine, right up until you live every day feeling like your eyes are on fire and blinking feels like spreading gravel across your eye balls. Stay informed and safe!
Thanks Doc! Most of Dr Drays ‘family’ listens to others as well as her, and most of us consult our drs when a claim is made. If SHES saying this then YOU are backing it up, that’s a double win of proper medical advice! I was thinking about false lashes, ease of use as I’m 65. Now? Nope! No way, au natural works! Feel free to join the family, highly informative, thorough, upbeat, truth and facts and challenging the norm, whatever that is lol❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I suffer from dry eyes...if ebbs and flows...sometimes in the morning I can't focus for 1/2 hr. Sometimes they are so 'goopy' (not a medical term) that it is actually gross. I don't wear or have ever tried false eyelashes or extensions. During this COVID I hardly even wear liner or mascara. 😜 Thanks for sharing!!!
I've been wanting eyelash extensions and have been putting them off for this very reason so thank you for confirming this. I've always had dry eyes and I've also had Lasik (which didn't make the dry eyes worse thankfully) and I maintain the dry eye with eye drops (I use the systane balance lipid drops that are white) but I do notice my eyes feel extra sandpapery when I wear mascara. I thought maybe getting lash extensions and not wearing mascara would be better. Probably a bad idea by the sounds of it. I'm also terrified of extensions causing corneal abrasions like what Dr Dray mentioned. Ever since Lasik I've been super protective of my corneas!!!
Tina Stout I totally get what you mean by goopy. Do you use lubricating drops first thing in the morning? I find that helps. I use 2 kinds of lubricating drop 1 after the other in the morning (one contains lipids) and I find that sets me for the whole day.
They are so hard to put on! Those Instagram videos make it look so easy but I found it really hard to sandwich my lashes between the 2 halves of the magnetic lashes
Certified lash artist here. Just an FYI, you absolutely can get your lids/ lashes wet, it is only recommended not to right after your lash appointment so your lashes have time to set. There are cleaners made to wash the lashes themselves really well with a spoolie. As for your lids, your facial wash should be fine to wash them with unless it’s super oily, then I’d recommend something without oil. Please do not fear water on your lashes! Just brush them through with a lash cleanser and pat dry if you do get them wet after the shower or washing your face :)
i've never had a problem and i love them. you have to keep them clean! people that avoid water...ya that's a problem. a good cleansing routine is very important just like with getting a tattoo or a piercing.
I loved them but I got periorbital cellulitis the last time I had them. It was horrible. The doctors couldn't tell me if it was because of them or if maybe a sty caused it but said the lashes were the most likely cause. The tech was coughing and spluttering over me while doing them as well. My vision is worse in the eye that was infected, I was lucky that the other eye didn't get infected. The doctors advised me if I didn't come into hospital when I did I could've lost my vision. People don't realise the serious complications you can have from these aesthetic choices
Can we all just take a second to appreciate Dr Drays hard work?👏🏽 not only is she a practicing doctor but she posts DAILY videos that are educational, packed with substance and entertaining. Your hard work and consistency is unparalleled 👏🏽👏🏽 also I hope your mom is doing well 💛
I love that Dr. Dray’s channel preaches self-love and acceptance without being, well, preachy about it. Just doing the cost/benefit analysis of all these cosmetic procedures is really empowering.
Yes. I have trouble with my lashes now that my eyes "droop" a bit. For no other reason than to keep the lashes that curve down from irritating my eye, I have thought of perming my lashes. I'd ask my wonderful opthalmologist except she is only seeing a few patients due to Covid. I don't consider my situation pressing at this time. I have thought of perming them "up"!
I use to want lash extensions but just the idea of glueing little strands of something to my natural lash makes me feel nasty. It's cute for other people that love it but it's just not for me. I'll take an occasional pair of falsies but even that is rare.😅 Thank you for this video Dr.Dray
I had eyelash extensions for five years and I had a done professionally by an artist not just someone who learned it from a book she is skillful in her tedious job. Making sure they stay clean is another thing. I had the suds up my hands real well and use that to wash my eyes. I couldn't let the shower beat down in them. I could swim in them believe it or not. When I no longer could afford it and they cost me for fill ins $75 each time . I let them just fall out naturally. I had a full healthy set of eyelashes underneaththat's how skilled she was at her job she knew exactly where to place them. I do not recommend this to anyone who cannot follow what I did to care for them they are too fragile to mess around with.
I'm a makeup artist. I see a lot of eyelash extensions and I will never get them because of what I've seen. Lots of flaky skin on the lash line, weeks worth of mascara and eyeliner stuck on the lashes, individual lashes flipping over and poking eyeballs, and damaged natural lashes. No thanks.
Sounds like the people you have dealt with are not keeping up with after care. Lash extensions are a luxury service and need to be deep cleaned 2x a day but people are lazy.
I had lash extensions for just a little over a year, regularly getting them filled every 3-4 weeks. My husband passed away right as the pandemic started. So I just let them grow out. After about a month and a half, I was horrified to realize that ALL of my previously long natural lashes were now mere stubs. It has been about 9 months and they still aren't to my original length. Never again!
@@stephjack9515 Still not at their original length, but after weaning off Welbutrin a month ago, and rubbing a small amount of castor oil each night, they are improving slowly!
The first (and last time) I had eyelash extensions I ended up getting something called Sphenoidal Sinusitis. My eyes slightly bulges forward due to inflammation of the Sphenoidal cavity. My eyes were red and sore just focusing on one object. I urge anyone looking into eyelash extensions researching the risk vs reward
You’re suppose to brush your lash extensions daily, that’s why they probably looked mangled. Usually salons will give you a little brush to take home with you so brush them. Don’t get things done if you’re not willing to take care of them because it end up with something like that. Lol
Methyl-2- cyanoacrylate?? So the lashes are basically superglued on? 🙈 No wonder people get allergies - the fumes from it causes allergy in about 5% of people, however, eyelid reactions are more common and much more severe... I would expect about everyone getting a reaction to the compound sooner or later though
Hi Dr. Dray, I’m a certified eyelash extension specialist! I love that you’re informative on the serious complications that could result from eyelash extensions; however, in the 2 years of my experience and training I have never had clients who experienced these complications. It’s important for those who want to try this service is to do their research. I’ve trained with highly accredited trainers and we are all educated on how to make sure our clients do not experience these adverse reactions. From what I’ve learned in my training is to educate clients on aftercare. You mentioned that you cannot get your extensions wet which can lead to eye infections such as blepharitis which is although correct, but in reality it is extremely important for our clients to clean their lashes everyday to avoid serious infections like this. As for the ingredient cyanoacrylate is the main component of lash adhesives, it is the reason why lash extensions can last 2-3 weeks. Touching back on the topic of avoiding the extensions getting wet, we only advise this in the first 24-48 hour window after application. However, technology has changed and now we are using nano misters to seal in extensions so that clients can avoid getting them wet as short as 6 hours. After this period, it’s extremely important for cleansing of the extensions as daily as washing your face. You mentioned as the glue breaks down over time the extension tends to “droop” this case happens because your natural lash is growing out while the extension is still attached. Thus, removals are important during the refill process to prevent damage. However, this only happens if the technician is applying lash extensions that are not the correct diameter fit for the client’s natural lashes. As far as allergic reactions, it is hard to avoid adverse reactions such as eye redness, discomfort, and tearing due to cyanoacrylate which is why most technicians have adhesives made specially for sensitive clients or we encourage a patch test to ensure the safety of our clients. Most of the time when these situations occur is when the client is opening their eyes in the middle of a session or wearing contacts. I am really happy to see this video because everything you have mentioned is true. I am not here to hate on Dr. Dray but I am only commenting to fill in the missing information. It is everyone’s choice to decide whether they are candidates for lash extensions. Do not be afraid of a beauty service such as lash extensions but before getting them always do your research. Always ask where they have trained, be transparent on products, read reviews, and look for quality work. Lash extensions have gotten a bad rep lately due to poorly trained technicians and cheap products since this industry is growing and becoming heavily saturated. Have a blessed day. ❤️
It has nothing to do with poorly trained technicians. It has everything to do with the simple fact that the extensions put you at risk period! What you filled in was what you do to reduce the risk but that doesn’t mean that your not at risk.
@@CarrieBiggerstaff It has a lot to do with poorly trained technicians. A decent chunk of what is covered in the video can be avoided through correct procedures such as maintaining good hygiene post-procedure and also gathering suitable ingredients and materials for the customer etc. *I definitely agree that this is a risky procedure regardless* but with the proper care, this procedure isn't as harmful and dangerous as the video portrays it to be.
@@CarrieBiggerstaff every beauty service we engage in has a chance of adverse reactions. Think about dying ones hair- I appreciate that Dr. Dray put this video out so that I can be aware of, and look for, the side affects and measure the risks against the benefits I get personally from lash extensions. I think Stephanie's additional input is equally as important.
@@erinyamada5304 didn’t you just say the same thing as I did but said it differently? I just said that you can reduce the risk but that doesn’t mean that you are not at risk. You can have a really good technician that does everything right. That doesn’t mean that you can’t be at risk for an infection. Or get an infection at all! If I get lashes…. I do them myself. I use them for a few hours and throw them in the trash. I don’t continue to wear them for several days. I can wash my face properly every day without worrying about those lashes falling off my face. Don’t say that it’s because of poorly trained professionals. It’s misleading & it just not entirely honest. It puts you at risk & especially for people who have auto-immune deficiencies? They need to know it’s a risk & something like this would probably put them at a higher risk. There’s no perfect technician that can prevent that infection for a client like that. In this video… I can’t remember if she mentioned that you should change your eye makeup every 6 months when you use these lashes but who would get the blame there if the client doesn’t do that either & gets an infection?
@@jadesizemore3056 I totally agree with you but I guess my concern would be.. Are the technicians educating the clients about this? If you get a client that has an auto-immune deficiency. Do they educate the clients or do they just take their money?
Lash perm and eyebrow perms use the same chemical process. If your technician does it wrong, your lashes can over process, meaning your lashes can over curl and burn the lashes. However, done right and its your first time, the lash tech can go under the maximum time of application to be safe in ensuring your lashes do not get over processed.
Me: (uses lattisse) watches for any bad sign; skin discoloration, dry eye, irritation, places Vaseline on under eye so medicine doesn't touch there (just in case of side effect) carefully washes brush applicator. Me: maybe I should get lash extensions and be done! Me after watching Dr dray..... Okay, never mind!
I feel blessed with long lashes lol. Dr dray, could you possibly discuss the effects of hard water and things on the scalp and skin? I've found out recently that this can contribute to dryness.
Thanks for the info!! Do you think you can talk about lashify? That company that sells you special pairs of lashes that can be worn up to 7-10 days. They say these are for those who love eyelash extension but want to do it at home.
I get them done since 9 years and I never had a problem with them. The only problem I have is I never wanna let go of them😂 I am a bit insecure about my straight light natural lashes
Funny story: Today, the staff at the eyelash salon was not welcoming, so I did not give them my business. Now after watching your video, the incident seems like a blessing in disguise! Thank you, rude shop-keeper! Tbh I've always thought eyelash extensions looked kind of fake. But gave into social pressure. That was not very wise.
Staying natural, simple and staying healthy via exercising, clean food, using least products is the way to go. Thanking my dad for instilling this in us from the beginning....
Dr. Dray, I am literally saving so much money now. I stopped wearing makeup period, I don’t color my hair, and I never got into the lash extensions either. I only buy Cerave face wash, Walgreens sunscreen and Cerave AM/PM moisturizer. Thank you!!!!
I’ve been a lash stylist for 5 years and most of my clients have not experienced adverse effects from wearing the extensions. Their natural lashes are still healthy. The only clients that have issues are those who do not adequately cleanse the lashes daily, as that contributes to buildup along the lash line and can sometimes lead to infection. Lash extensions are not inherently bad. Just make sure the stylist is knowledgeable and adequately trained in proper application. I’ve seen all the things that Dr. Dray is referring to in the video, and this is usually due to “bad work.” Take care
The first (& last!) time I had eyelash extensions done, my eyes were burning the whole 3 weeks I had them on. Nothing helped. I tried fanning them, using eyedrops, even saw the eye doctor (who told me lash extensions were terrible for the eyes). I wanted to rip them out so badly, but didn't want to take my eyelashes with them. Unfortunately, I did lose a good amount of lashes anyway, and told myself I'd never spend that much money again for something so ridiculous and torturous lol.
I am so glad I've never been tempted to get lash extensions. Without knowing the risk factors in detail, I knew it was a bad idea. Thanks for the free education!
I had eyelash extensions for over 2 years consistently. After a few months I started to develop redness and irritation after having them applied. I liked them so much I kept getting them regardless. But after over a year I started to swell and the inflammation became so bad it looked like I was stung by a bee. I’ve done patch tests with glue that came out negative; I have no idea to this day what exactly I was allergic to (gel pads, lashes themselves, bonding), but I’m hella allergic to them now. It also took me almost five years to get their health back to pre-lash state. I’d never get them again. I’m much happier supporting my lashes naturally and opting for mascara.
I wanted to get these, but definitely had heard some of these things and don’t think I will do it anymore. What about the “lift and tint” approach? Are the products they use safe?
I had lash extensions for many months but decided to not refill them anymore. I ended up with almost no natural lashes as a result of getting these extensions and I had a lot of long, healthy lashes when I got my 1st set of extensions done! Yes, even when I had them done by a "good" lash artist and filled them in regularly. I took months for my natural lashes to recover. For me, I only like the look of lash extensions the first 3 days or so after getting them done. But as soon as they started growing/falling out, I would look just weird. LOL
I've tried lash extensions and I don't like them. They make my eyelashes feel heavy, itchy and uncomfortable. And my natural lashes would fall out faster and of course, take the extensions with them leaving unsightly gaps in my lashes. But I have used Latisse for years and swear by the stuff. Latisse makes my lashes grow noticeably longer and fuller. And Latisse is cheaper than the cost of constant lash extension touch-ups. But patience is required- it takes a few months to see the full results because your lashes need time to grow. But once they are all grown in they will be beautiful. If you're considering lash extensions or you have them and want to take a break I recommend Latisse. It is a "prescription" medication but many plastic surgeons sell it in their office to non-patients.
I have had them for 2 years. I do noticing the blinking now. Sometimes they get itchy and dry. Guess it’s time to say bye bye to them. Thank you for the info
I have them since 3 years now and every year i stop for 2 months and i never had any problems, of course the first days after you remove them there's no many of your natural ones left and you look weird but they regrow after a weerk or 2 thicker and normal like before the extensions.
I had them and loved them then COVID happened. The only thing I noticed was how much more eye crust there was. My eyes norma, lying get a lot of jt but with the extensions, it was a lot more. Some of the glues have formaldehyde in it.
Oh damn. I was thinking, about getting them. No matter, what combination of sunscreen and mascara I use, it always smudges within 2 or 3 hours. So annoying. My meibomian glands are pretty shot anyway, though....I guess, I better not annoy them any further 😏
I'm thinking maybe powder your eyes and under eyes and lids. Make sure maybe get the lashes a little powder coat. Let it bake a bit. After a few moments, use a separate lash spoolie to apply the mascara. If the area is dry, it might not smudge. Downside is that it will emphasise lines and dry skin looks older. I'm sorry I don't have a better solution for you.
The solution to your problem is tubing mascara that forms tiny tubes around each lash hair and doesn’t budge a bit until you take it off with warm water and a little pressure. I always had problems with raccoon eyes but never again since I started using tubing mascara. You can even swim and cry with it on and it stays put until you take it off because removing requires both warm water and gentle pressure so the tiny tubes slide right off each individual lash. No need for any heavy eye makeup remover or lots of rubbing of the delicate skin in the eye area. I use Blinc, but several companies make it including Trish McEvoy, DHC, and a few Japanese makeup brands. HTH. 🙂
I’m literally waiting to go to my eye doc appointment today because my eyelid swelled up after getting my eyelash extensions filled.. it’s super red too. Learn from my mistake 🙃
I truly understand you. I had a really bad inflammation when I had the lashes extension last summer. To be honest, I am always thinking about doing it because it looks great. But I know I won't cause I can't afford my eyes to get hurt again.
Susanna Guo If you had a reaction in the past, it’s better to stay away, because if you have an allergy to the glue, it’s going to stay and you’ll have to remove them.
My friends has done lash extensions constantly for a year, she literally has very little lash left... don’t believe they won’t shed more than naturally.
there is a great HAND cream with 5% urea with added panthenol (which I believe is also a super ingredient). Fragrance and color free. Do you think I could apply it on my FACE?
Ladies, you look WAY prettier and sexier when you don't look fake. False lashes are SO tacky looking. Everyone is walking around looking like cheap prostitutes. LOL. I know that can be fun once in a blue moon, but everyday? Come on! LOL. No guys I know like it. They just put up with it.
I love this video as it is informative and it's nice being able to read other people's experience for additional awareness. I've been getting lash extensions for 5 years and have had zero problems (so far). If you do get lashes done for whatever reason it may be, find a technician who knows what they're doing as Dr. Dray mentioned. Every time I take a lash extension break, my natural lashes look exactly the same as it did the first time I ever saw my technician. I wear a natural/appropriate length, keep them clean, and never wear makeup around them. Also, just because someone wears lash extensions doesn't make them vain or more vain than the person who wears make up or got a breast augmentation. Let's appreciate the information Dr. Dray offers us and be nice to one another.
I’ve had lash extensions for 6 years and never had a problem. I wash my eyelids/eyelashes every day so cleanliness is not a problem. But I think you have to choose your lash provider very carefully. I don’t think you want to go to the lowest cost provider.
By the time I finish watching all your videos, I'm going to look like a newborn baby. You are knocking out my procedures one by one, and I'm not sad about it :) Thanks for another informative video.
They're really only problematic if they are improperly done and or they are not cared for properly. Incomplete blinks?! Yes, you can develop or have an allergic reaction, but extensions are not for everyone. You CAN get them wet. You have to clean them!
I had eyelash extensions done a few years bac and by the third or refill I developed an allergy to the glue that left me with puffy, itchy eyelids. The technician teied another glue that was supposed to be less irritating. Same thing happened. Then the techjician advised me to take an antihistamine before and after my visit. It was at that point I decided that lash extensions were not for me. My body was telling me so and I decided to listen. If I have to take an antihistamine in order to tolerate the glue from the extensions it's not for me. Thanks for all the great info. I always feel smarter after watching one of your videos. I love your vernacular. 😊
Gabriela Svoboda they probably weren’t a very good esthetician, I promise you not all of us are like that. Just like some dermatologist just prescribe you drugs to solve your problem which can do more harm. Both dermatologists and esthetician’s can do the wrong thing.
castor oil, though some ppl can experience irritation from that. for me personally, castor oil helped thicken my lashes and brows. you can also try some ot lash conditioners which are basically emolients for lashes that prevent breakage and keep them in good condition.
I ask myself the same question, I'm really not sure if these oils really do something or simply products that do more harm than good. I would like a video about that
Hi Doc, I've never had the extensions or false eyelashes. However, I've been entertaining the thought of the magnetic false lashes. No glue but putting something magnetized next to my eye doesn't sound good either. Also, I've used vaseline to take off my eye makeup & after seeing the eye doctor, he said my tear ducts were clogged from using the vaseline. What's your take on the best solution for my eyes & those magnetic false eyelashes? Love your channel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for your time & be safe out there!
@Lisa Yes Lisa, those are the ones I was referring to. The eyeliner that is magnetic with the lashes that have the magnets on them. Hope Dr. Dray can give some input on this.
I have different sets of magnetic eyelashes. They are super duper tricky to put on. It is hard to remove magnetic eyelashes without damaging them. The little magnets hold super tight and sometimes don't separate property when trying to remove them... I have ripped out my eyelashes by accident a few times trying to take off the magnetic eyelashes. I think regular falsies and magnetic falsies are both equally damaging :(
Need to do a video on acrylic nails and hair extensions. Lash & hair extensions put you at risk for traction alopecia. None of this crap is good for you!
I love the little bit of curl to your hair. It looks very natural! My hair gets all kind of "bendy" when it's been in an updo / bun. I love wearing my buns. I wear them when I'm up, and my hair loose at night (microfiber pillow case). I have over the booty aka "classic length" wavy/curly hair and love it. I have to say that curl to your hair really suits you! :D Personally I have never even *ever* considered lash extensions! Glue? That close to my eye? No way!
I’m glad I follow you, great information. I almost always to my homework before doing something like eyelash extensions. However this time I didn’t. The first time I did extensions had a little bit of irritation on one of my eyes but it went away. I really like how it opens up my eyes, wake up in the mornings and have one less thing to do. So here I am listen to your great advice because I think I am developing an allergy to the glue or the lashes themselves maybe because I’ve been doing it for about two months now. I’ve been seriously considering stopping the extensions, not getting them anymore. After watching your video I’m definitely not doing the extensions anymore. Too risky, my eyes are too precious. And the itchiness has gotten worse, the redness has gotten worse.
Thank you! Took mine out today and feel amazing.... Finally I can rub my eyes all I want and feel human again... Getting it wet was so terrible.... I hated every minute of it... At the end it pulled out most of my naturally long lashes.... Btw its a ridiculous trend 🤦♀️ I realized it when it was to late 😬
I am a licensed esthetician and I’ve been doing lashes for 10+ years. Eyelash extensions are not damaging at all if they are done correctly. They should not touch your skin or cause irritation, pain or natural lash loss. If they do, your tech is not doing it right by either applying them too close to your eyelid or the actual extension is too heavy for your lashes. I love Dr. Dray and her videos are super informative but not all of this is 100% true. Lashes are completely safe and healthy when done CORRECTLY by someone who is experienced and cares about the health of your eyelashes!
I got them once and once only. the first week I got blepharitis, it was so so painful. I immediately noticed they do sorta collapse and stab your eyeballs! it feels so weird. Not many people know this, they're not soft like hair is, they're actually hard, and you need to comb them every day and have the comb with you at all times in case one of them decides to droop. And the worst port of it is , at least for me, I looked in the mirror and felt like I looked so weird. It just looks odd having such long, black lashes, even when I got the super "natural" version of them. and they start falling around the second week, and you get bald spots of lashes in your eyes. It's just so noticeable, I notice it on other girls and I just no longer get the appeal. Last but not least they're expensive, and they're even more expensive to keep up with. So think about it twice!
I had a friend who tried “not to wash her eyelids too much” so that the extensions last longer. She wears eye makeup and mascara but doesn’t wash properly so I find that a little weird. It’s a little distracting talking to her and seeing white bits even from afar and wondering if it’s glue or dust I’m seeing. Overall her eyelid just looked heavy with dirt.
I get lash extensions. What helps is combing them daily and washing 1-2x a day with lash shampoo. I haven’t had any issues with mine or my natural lash retention. You only avoid wetting the eyes for the first 24 hours.
A very good friend of mine had the eyelash extensions on for a little over a year and was going and getting them “filled”. She started having issues, but vanity kept her going on with the extensions, I guess. It finally took her ophthalmologist to talk some sense into her… She was actually damaging her eyes! Thankfully she chose vision over the extensions. Unfortunately, the extensions being on that long seriously damaged her natural lashes… Even though the girl who was doing them for her swore up and down that they would not damage her natural lashes. She’s had them off now for close to two years and her natural lashes have come back as much as they are going to, but not as nice as they were before (she had normal lashes... not particularly long, but not especially short either). She wishes now that she had left well enough alone.
A good lash tech who knows that they’re doing and keeps the health of their client first, is not cheap, but is also rare. I was a lash tech for a bit, and my instructor/mentor was adamant on the health of her client’s eye health. There’s too many lash techs out there who don’t know what they’re doing and only care about the money.
Watching this a few minutes after getting my lashes removed 💔 I was fine for almost 6 months but recently I might have developed an allergy to the lashes or the glue. My eyelids became inflamed, sore and very very sensitive and itchy. Pretty sure I developed blepharatis. Now I’m focusing on fixing the aftermath aka eyelid dermatitis 😐 they looked amazing and my lash lady was great but it’s not worth it!!!! I wish I knew this before getting them done
Dr. Dray, thank you for your great content 🙏 Could you consider dedicating a video to adjusting a skincare routine to a night shift lifestyle? Should products be switched around between day and night?
this explains how after constantly getting my refills my eyes felt more dry and irritated. and My boyfriend grew concern because I always rubbed my eyes and they always look red like I've been crying. Thank you Dr. Dray, your informations and insights are always so helpful :)
As an esthetician and lash stylist, I would like to point out that many women wear extensions for years, like me, with no complications. If you don't have these allergies and you keep your lashes clean, and have a good stylist, you will enjoy your lashes immensely. I resent you spreading this info like it's common.
I used to have lash extensions and developed an allergy after about 6 months, it triggered a condition called blepharitis and now I can’t ever get them again. It took forever for my natural lashes to grow back, they were barely there and super short from breakage afterwards. Luckily, my natural lashes are fine now but they aren’t worth getting.
Thank you so much for this! I have been getting extensions for the past couple of years, and while I LOVE them, this is excellent information and I truly appreciate it. As always, thanks a million!! ❤️💕
I’m so thankful you brought this to everyone’s attention. Folks these days are losing their minds to “look good”. Making stupid decisions that will cost dearly as folks age.
I had them done for a wedding, just a few days before the big day. By the time the wedding day arrived virtually all of the lashes had come off my right eye. Despite putting on loads of mascara to compensate I felt really self conscious and would never waste my money on them again.
Currently nursing my eyes back to health after five years of on and off lash extensions! I randomly developed blepharitis and an allergic reaction to the adhesive. 😩😭
I had a TERRIBLE time with my eyelash extensions. I got a bad allergic reaction and my lash artist just told me to take daily allergy medication so I could keep getting them done. Never again. She would also shame me for "not cleaning them properly" which was BS because I worked really hard to clean them multiple times a day but I was so allergic to them that they were full of flaky skin all the time.
Little microscopic bugs live in those lashes too. They live in everyone's lashes, but even more so in fake lashes. Eye doctors see them with every eye exam that they perform.
I had no issues with mine. I had to quit doing them because they irritated my wallet. 😉
LOL
I chuckled 🤣😂
🤣
Lol...
Too funny 🤪
I wanted lash extensions but you know what nvm
:)
ur not missing nothin just be happy with ur human lashes

My optometrist advised me against those as I have very dry eyes. I have learned my lesson; never again.
I’m suddenly aware of my blinking lol
;)
I’d LOVE to hear your thoughts on the magnetic lashes that have become more popular over the last few years (e.i Moxie Lash). 🤗
Dr. Rupa Wong, Ophthalmologist has videos on this.
Their hard to put on
They are so hard to put on! Those Instagram videos make it look so easy but I found it really hard to sandwich my lashes between the 2 halves of the magnetic lashes
KittyEars&Headbands Check out Moxie Lashes, they have a magnetic eyeliner that the top lash sticks too. 🙂

Dr. Dray - could you please share your thoughts on lash lifts/eyelash perms? Thank you!

I would like to know also💋

Yes please!
It’s like Dr. Dray knew I was thinking of getting eyelash extensions before my vacation. Never mind lol.
I use to want lash extensions but just the idea of glueing little strands of something to my natural lash makes me feel nasty. It's cute for other people that love it but it's just not for me.
I'll take an occasional pair of falsies but even that is rare.😅
Thank you for this video Dr.Dray
thanks for watching
They’re very irritating to my wallet lol, but I love them because it makes it waaaaay easier on my transition to be makeup free
Why is it not allowed to have shower pour over them?
I'm a makeup artist. I see a lot of eyelash extensions and I will never get them because of what I've seen.
Lots of flaky skin on the lash line, weeks worth of mascara and eyeliner stuck on the lashes, individual lashes flipping over and poking eyeballs, and damaged natural lashes. No thanks.
That sounds really gross - no thanks!
Sounds like the people you have dealt with are not keeping up with after care. Lash extensions are a luxury service and need to be deep cleaned 2x a day but people are lazy.
@@Emm486 yeah definitely.
The first (and last time) I had eyelash extensions I ended up getting something called Sphenoidal Sinusitis. My eyes slightly bulges forward due to inflammation of the Sphenoidal cavity. That's about right..
If you don’t do your research on where you go lol
@@elleb2412 that's true. I guess half the women i see online don't do their research before scheduling 🤣
Yeah that’s why the Fumes sting the Heck out of your Eyes 👀 .
Also, what about eyelash perming or eyebrow perming? What are the side effects of those? Those are both very popular recently.
I have lash extensions but I wash my eyes twice a day, in the shower and at the sink. They can get wet , just have to be gentle
Does more damage than hair perm... I am not even considering it...
Me: (uses lattisse) watches for any bad sign; skin discoloration, dry eye, irritation, places Vaseline on under eye so medicine doesn't touch there (just in case of side effect) carefully washes brush applicator.

Dray is referring to in the video, and this is usually due to “bad work.”
Take care
I can’t comment on the safety but that’s what I do and it’s amazing results for me. Though I have naturally long lashes
I’ve heard that lift and tint is essentially just perming ur eyelashes. It’s supposedly only as dangerous as getting a perm done on ur hair
I’ve had it done a few times and never had any problems. The curl only lasted about 6 weeks. Just make sure you’re going to a reputable place.
Nadia Carrillo hair perms use rather harsh chemicals and you can really mess your hair up with a bad perm
Except the chemicals are close to your eye! You should definitely be careful.
That’s good, but a lot of people have addiction to them, and it’s very hard for them to stop.
I've had them for about that long too! Have you taken any breaks in between? I have never had any eye irritation.
M N I only took a break for 2 months when we all got quarantine.

What TKF said, I have to use a powder on my eyelid and under eyes. Nothing crazy, just a translucent pressed powder
Have you tried a tubing mascara like the thrive cosmetics one? I have heard they don’t smudge.

If you had a reaction in the past, it’s better to stay away, because if you have an allergy to the glue, it’s going to stay and you’ll have to remove them.

I loved the look, but the irritation was unbearable. I permanently lost a patch of lashes afterwards.
They're really only problematic if they are improperly done and or they are not cared for properly. Incomplete blinks?! Yes, you can develop or have an allergic reaction, but extensions are not for everyone. You CAN get them wet. You have to clean them!
I literally have an appointment for lash extensions for the 22nd! Thank you so much for this, I clearly didn't do enough research. Great video

Magnetic fields are not dangerous for human health and in any case it would be a really low intensity magnetic force.
@Lisa Yes Lisa, those are the ones I was referring to. The eyeliner that is magnetic with the lashes that have the magnets on them. Hope Dr. Dray can give some input on this.
most use micellar water to take off falsies. Just don't rip off your lashes or rub too harshly.
just use eyemakeup remover to remove makeup. Its made to be around the eye area. Dont use vaseline or oil that will clog pores.....
No way!
I was thinking of getting some this past weekend, you're always speaking on something on my mind! Ty So much, Happy Monday!
I didn't know that eye lash extensions were glued. Guess living under a rock has it's benefits.
Thank you for the info. I just made an appointment for them. Nope changed my mind
I’m sorry yall I might just be in denial is this the same for strips or the individual cluster eyelashes
I love the way your hair formed the pretty waves/curls today! it looks shiny and healthy :)
When I was driving one of my eyelashes fell off AND GOT STUCK ON MY EYE BALL!!! I couldn’t see!!! I almost crashed!!! Thank you for this video!
😲 that’s scary! I’m glad you are safe!
DBND Thank you!
This reminds me of the horror stories my chemistry teacher used tell about mascara 😬
You can just use a gentle cleanser. No need to buy a special lash shampoo. I just use Cetaphil Gentle Foaming Cleanser.
Flipgirl Narie I prefer my lash shampoo but it’s personal preference. I suggest anyone to make choices that best suit them and their personal regime.
Not to mention a lot of people look like they have caterpillars on their eyes.
Everyone is different
I know, but I thought I’d share my experience in case someone wants to weigh the potential consequences.
Could you talk about eyelash tinting and perming? I know that’s becoming more popular now
Thank you so much for this!
Any updates on this topic @drdray?
Currently nursing my eyes back to health after five years of on and off lash extensions! I randomly developed blepharitis and an allergic reaction to the adhesive. 😩😭
I had a TERRIBLE time with my eyelash extensions. I got a bad allergic reaction and my lash artist just told me to take daily allergy medication so I could keep getting them done. Never again. She would also shame me for "not cleaning them properly" which was BS because I worked really hard to clean them multiple times a day but I was so allergic to them that they were full of flaky skin all the time.
Omg scary! Glad I’ve never had them because I already have dry eye syndrome from wearing contacts and almost never taking them out for years!!
Little microscopic bugs live in those lashes too. They live in everyone's lashes, but even more so in fake lashes. Eye doctors see them with every eye exam that they perform.
First
Happy Monday!
Congradulations For Being First!! Have a Great Day!!
Thank you Dr Dray. Have a good day. ❤️
