What I like about this villain is that he's not stereotypically evil. He's cold and rational. He's been waiting centuries with a clear goal in mind. When you see that he's all alone, his race basically dead, and he's trying to remake the world and raise his comrades, you almost feel a sense of pity for him.
This was the PERFECT theme for this segment of the game. really gives you a feeling of etherealness and finding out the history of the unknown. I can’t believe how incredible the OST is for this game
Soken loves his leitmotifs doesn't he, you can hear a very mild version of Ultima's theme in this, I've gained a newfound appreciation for music through this game, getting the most out of the least is a genius idea by Soken.
Probably one of the best tracks among many incredible songs within the OST. It's got elements of many past entries in the series like the City of the Ancients from FF7 and Orphan's Cradle from FF13. An incredible celebration of the series in one song 😭
Hands down I agree. Favorite game I've ever played. And I've been dancing between dmc 5, Nioh and wolong, MHW, Er and souls series. Didn't think anything could touch them. This game blew me away
This is ff16 very own version of “The Day of Night” from silent hill and it’s unbelievably insane. The track transcended into god mode real quick when the vocals kicked in.
Silent Hill is exactly what I thought of this track. It's horrifying, like truly you realise you are fighting an actual primordial entity that is God itself.
There is typically a point in FF games where, when the main villain starts having more of a presence and the story begins weaving itself together... you've entered the final act. I haven't beaten the game, but I just got here last night. This has a heavy "beginning of the end" feel.
@@pyxl666you'd be correct. Make sure you do all of the side quests when they unlock. They are amazing 👌 I suggest starting with "when there's a will" to beef up your party for the rest of them. Have fun!
I love it when Final Fantasy takes us on a "dreamy" journey like this in the endgame. The name of this place reminds me of the final dungeon in FFV, and the music gives off a similar vibe like the Compression of Time in FFVIII, Memoria/Crystal World in FFIX, some of the last dungeons in FFXI expansions, and the Labyrinth of Chaos in FFXIII-2. Moreover, the nihilistic nature of Ultima and its desire for a world based on "reason" to protect only himself showcases its indifference towards human emotions and suffering, kinda like the Creator in FFIV After Years and Lufenians in FFI/Stranger of Paradise.
Imo Ultima is basically “what if God was real and actually hated humanity”? It’s a disturbing yet compelling idea. Ultima is more than a Lufenian from ff1, he’s a literal God.

Ultima is the most overhated and misunderstood character in FF16. People say that the game lost its course in terms of the writing when he became the main villain, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. The oppression you see throughout the ENTIRE game, the enslavement of bearers, people seeing one another as lower life forms just because of who they were born as, the prejudice and oppression that was shown to us throughout the ENTIRE game, Ultima is the EMBODIMENT of that. While humans saw bearers and Dominants as lesser beings, being deserving of enslavement, Ultima sees the human race in GENERAL the same way, “damned is the slave that would turn a scourge upon his master” Ultima says during his boss fight, Ultima is the enslaver, and humans are the slave. Ultima is the embodiment of all the prejudice and oppression we see in this world as the player. Ultima’s writing is not only VERY consistent THEMATICALLY but it is also very consistent in GENERAL, he was literally set up at the BEGINNING of the game. If you think that Ultima’s writing is inconsistent with the game or if you thought the game somehow “fell off” in terms of writing consistency, I just don’t see how anyone can come that conclusion. Ultima was perfectly set up and written into this story in the best way possible THEMATICALLY AND in general.
