  • Writing a book on transgender idendities as a non-trans person is a bit bold, some might say audacious. This is why I decided to open myself up to my friend Seda, who is a transwoman. Seda read my book Embodied and appreciated a lot of things in it, but she does have some disagreements, which we discuss in this podcast. Seda has become a friend over the last year and has been an incredible dialogue partner.

    We all need to learn to discuss hard topics with grace and truth. Grace without truth is meaningless. Truth without grace is legalistic.
    A person questioning their sexuality is undoubtedly hurting. Being a sexually broken heterosexual, I can emphasize. The unfortunate absolute answer to this issue is that gender transition puts the creation in the place of the creator. We need to submit to God's design and his perfect will for creation. He is the solution for every sin and level of confusion. Gender ideology is an issue of competing authorities: me or God; creation or Creator.

      Does it? Does it put the creation in the place of creator when a woman suffering from cancer gets a mastectomy? Or when a man with gangrene gets his foot removed?

      @@sedacollier1602 Gender confusion is not a disease or an infection. It can be resolved when trusting that God allowed you to be born male or female. Being born male or female is not a disease.

    @Preston, regarding being created in the image of God, this has always confused me, because we refer to God as a male, but God created male and female in His image...How can both a man and woman be made in the image of God when these are so essentially different? Would it be safe to say that God is both male and female? What if "God" is all things, and humankind being made in the image of God would necessitate variety, such that the image of God is present among us by way of us existing with our variation. Then we (humankind) as a whole, male and female, gay and straight, transexual or not, are all necessary components of humanity because together, not individually, we are God's image.

    The “subconscious sex” idea is pretty ill-defined. The idea lies at the intersection of anatomy and the metaphysical so when objections are raised from either argument, you can just pivot to the other side. It seems people’s subconscious can tell them all sorts of things. As someone who struggled with an ED for much of my life, those deep beliefs about my body were borne out in every minute of every day, and even in my dreams. Is there a mysterious part of my brain and subconscious that is more aligned with my soul than my healthy body is? In Heaven will my body be 75lb? I find that difficult to believe.

    • @sedacollier1602
      @sedacollier1602 Год назад

      While at this point the concept is pretty squishy and ill-defined, what other possibility aligns with all the data points, scientifically, scripturally, and experientially? I'm not convinced about the pivot point.
      As for ED's, I do hope you're better now. But I think it's dangerous to conflate the treatment for one disorder with treatment for another. Just taking the case of other neurological disorders, who would recommend that someone with ASD be given the same treatment as someone with epilepsy, or vice versa?

    • @zacdredge3859
      @zacdredge3859 Год назад

      @@sedacollier1602 Or possibly, it fits the data *because* it's squishy and ill-defined. A hypothesis that isn't clearly defined is easy to validate but difficult to test or authenticate.
      Also, and not to offend, but your response to Josey seems disingenuous. She gave a mental condition that she has both experienced and is logically similar to gender dysphoria; they are both dysmorphic in nature. That's not the same as comparing autism and epilepsy which are dissimilar.
      Mostly I'm curious to hear your perspective on her question regarding what will happen in Heaven; do you believe that you will have a female body in Heaven or are you simply a trans-female in the short term for the sake of your mental state in this life?

    • @sedacollier1602
      @sedacollier1602 Год назад

      @@zacdredge3859 Maybe. It still fits better than anything else I've heard proposed.
      How is it disingenuous? If GD and EDs are similar because they're dysmorphic, why are ASD and epilepsy dissimilar even though they're both neurological disorders? Logically, they're similar because they're both neurological in nature. But you're right - they are dissimilar; and likewise, GD and EDs are dissimilar. GD is a neurological disorder and affects the patient differently than ED's. So that's kind of the point.
      As for your last question, I don't know. I'd guess it could go one of four ways:
      1. Restored male body without GD
      2. Like Jesus showing the marks of crucifixion on his resurrected body, mine is as it is.
      3. Female body.
      4. Something else, which I haven't imagined yet.
      My best guess is 2 or 4, but I don't know. It don't think it matters. There's no way to know. It's just speculation. What matters is, am I making Jesus more beautiful to the world? Am I loving God with all my heart, mind and strength, and my neighbor as myself? Am I doing justly, do I love mercy, and am I walking humbly with God?
      Finally, I'm a trans woman because I can't not be a trans woman. In the same way, I'm guessing, you're a man because you can't not be a man. It's just a fact of life. How I deal with it affects my mental state, but the fact of being trans is a biological reality beyond my control.

    Woman. Adult human female.
    That is something that is called a FACT.
    What you two men are sitting here discussing is philosophy.
    Please just be you, call yourself what ever you choose, live your best life. And have the same respect for other people that you deserve for yourself.
    That means, have respect even for women. Which means, stay the hell out of women's restrooms, locker rooms, showers, shelters, wards, dorms, prisons, sports, organizations, scholarships and other womens spaces.

    I think what you could really use here is the distinction between substance and accident in the conversation of identity. Substance deals with what a thing is, accident is something that could exist but may not and does not change what a thing is.
    You could say the substance of the identity is that which all humans share. We are all children of God made in his image with an intellect and will. An accidental (meaning as a quality, not unintentional or unimportant) is some feature that that a human could have, but may not. Blonde hair rather than brown, sight rather than blindness, 2 legs rather than one leg. What part of the identity is essential to be an identity, and which could exist, but may not?
    I fail to see how you dress is a component of identity at all.
    Identity and body are different but intrinsically related. The body is important, not something to be arbitrarily discarded. From a christian perspective the whole of the christian life is lived to integrate the two, along with one's emotional and intellectual life along with the will.

      By the way you don't understand Matt Walsh's points is because you're not paying attention to the nuisance of what he's saying. He addressed your Guests/hosts exact situation and point of view in the documentary. He has a female to male interviewee who shares the exact views of this guest. Did you actually watch the whole documentary? Serious question.
      Your guest's position is NOT what Walsh was addressing as the "trans movement". It's the movement you and your guest oppose.

      @@krizilloo2538 seda while I do sympathize with their gender dysphoria will ultimately be whatever they were born biologically as in the resurrection of the dead. The soul is not sexed or gendered because if it were, that causes a Christological heresy. Christ is a man and if the soul is sexed then it can be argued he only saved males. This is of course silly. Christ saves men and women both. His human soul is neither sexed nor gendered. Neither are any of our souls.
