    My tip: if you're alone, bored and feel the impulse to fill that boredom with an unhealthy habit (doom scrolling, binging, smoking, drinking, etc) cold call a close friend or loved one instead. Not to talk about that impulse but just to catch up with someone who you care about. In my experience this always leaves me feeling energized, connected, fulfilled, and much better than said habit ever could :)

    My personal tip that I learned while getting older: When in a social situation where drinking is normal, just stick to one drink and then switch to non-alcoholic. It's usually not worth it to drink more (at least for me) and the energy and time you save that your body would need for recovery or not being hung over the next day is usually much more important for me.

    GREAT list! Here's my input about LAUNDRY: The transitional place is hooks. Great for jackets, jammies, jeans you only wore for a couple hours. Things that aren't dirty, but you don't want to fold and put away. It keeps things up and not getting wrinkled at the bottom of a pile. Then you can use the chair for sitting. Also, put the laundry basket where you're dropping your dirty clothes anyway. Voila--organized. Wash in cold water and don't bother sorting colours, and don't fold stuff that doesn't matter. Buy all matching socks in those multi-packs and you'll never have to sort. Have dedicated baskets for towels & washcloths, socks & undies, bed linens ,everyday clothes. If your dresser is piled with clean clothes, get rid of it and use bins--no lids! Way easier to toss clean clothes into. I bring some bins into the laundry room and clean clothes go straight into the bins from the dryer. Done. Life is too short to deal with Laundry Friction Points!

    • @m.maclellan7147
      @m.maclellan7147 Год назад +32

      Yes, but if I was in that place I would have thanked "The Fates" that they showed me that person is NOT as close to you as YOU thought. So, you can stop thinking of them as a "close friend" & consider them more as an acquaintance. Some people say the right words, but as that book says "They're just not that into you!" !!!!
      OR, perhaps that person prefers audio books (I know I do!).
      I would have been tempted to buy the book, put one of those "This book belongs to..." stickers OVER the inscription and keep that book around as a reminder that not everyone is worth buying a book for (and that's okay! You should have good friends even if you are poor !) Or, to ask if you can "buy" them the audio book version. I would assume you could do this on Audible?!
      My 2 cents. Feel free to ignore 😌

      @@m.maclellan7147 Mostly now I see the humor in it but if we're being honest it also gave me a moment of self-reflection. It's kind of arrogant to say I think you need this book so I'm going to make sure you have it whether your want it or not. If anyone was pinning something on someone it was me trying to pin my thoughts/interests onto her. She was right to sell it without reading it.

    • @lauravsthepage
      @lauravsthepage Год назад +27

      @@Rachel-sv9pq this is a really mature way to look at it. A book is a decently sized time commitment, and honestly even if you are a big reader there are SO many books out there and not enough time to read all the ones you are interested in. At least at a used book store it has a chance to be enjoyed by someone who actually can enjoy it instead of just sitting on a shelf somewhere. I like the tip in theory but unless you really understand/know someones reading habits the gifted book will probably end up collecting dust on a book shelf.

    Tip #10 at 4:12 is pure gold.
    My tip is: "You're not hungry - you're bored." I still remember the moment I had an epiphany about this, back when I used to live with my folks, and I was looking in the fridge and it hit me. So I acknowledged it by saying it aloud, and then went to find something more productive to do. I definitely think it was because I had this epiphany several years prior that I gained no "snack weight" during the 2020 quarantine.
    Please note: if your stomach is growling, you are legitimately hungry and you should eat. But you should eat a meal, not snacks. (In my opinion, the whole concept of snacking is mostly fueled by boredom. There are some exceptions, like unexpectedly having to work a long shift, and you need to eat something in a hurry on your break. Other than that kind of situation, though, snacks tend to be purely recreational. Think it over for a bit, and you'll see what I mean.)

What you said about the guy giving specific and memorable advice instead of little “platitudes” literally reflects what you do on your whole channel. Your videos helped me get out of my head and feel better about the way my life’s going. I tend to be someone who feels unproductive and undeserving of my achievements but I’m starting to gain perspective and realize what I am proud of and what I WANT to improve (self-worth, patience) rather than what I think I SHOULD improve (forcing myself to be on top everything all the time even though that ends up draining me even more). You’re the best at making me feel like I’m right where I should be and what happens next is up to me.

    One tip that changed my life this year is that sometimes overcommitting can be a helpful tool when you struggle to build a good habit. For me, this was building a habit to go to the gym and ACTUALLY push myself, not just go for the sake of going. I did this by entering my first ever powerlifting competition and buying all the paraphernalia you need to commit. I found this would make me feel bad about not going to the gym because I spent so much money on it and had committed to competing. TBH it really helped me build a good habit and I'm glad I did it because not only have I met some awesome people, but I feel a lot better about myself too

    I’ve has the same clothes-rule for years! If it doesn’t make me want to dance it’s not for me. :) Also, random side note: The fact you included Basque in the language segment was such a nice surprise. I lived there for a while and studied the language despite some people saying “it’s too difficult” or “why would you bother with this language that only a few people in a very small part of the world use”. It just makes you understand your surroundings better and shows respect for the locals. I am sure I wouldn’t have made the same connections without learning a few sentences.

    I’m so happy your changing things up to mirror where your at, and I hope you kill your bucket list!!
    My question is: Do you have a video about friends disappearing once you start getting successful? This unfortunately has happened to me, and the people I thought had my back, don’t.
    All the best to you on your new journey ❤❤❤

      This could be envy or intimidation. They liked you when they were on level or above you and could comfortably look down on you.
      Now that you're successful they feel you're above them and they can't stand feeling smaller than someone else.
      I've evolved from a piece of angsty desperate and depressed shit to a disciplined successful and thriving businesswoman in the last ten years.
      Kicked out my ex because he even tried to keep me down, had "friends" ghost me or mooch, BUT I also made new friends who are successful as well and we keep each other thriving.

    Do more of those specific tips if you can !! This clothing tip worked sooo great and i believe that droping a few things that are not relatable to many, is well compensated by the utility it has for those who do relate to the tip (works for plenty of stuff, such as art as well) Sharing something personal is just so great for the people it actually touches. Helped me tremendously with my cloth chair / pile and decision making for outfits !

    That urgency on negotiation is one I use a lot. I was told, if you can't sleep on it, the answer is no.
    My dad told me once to listen to old people and watch babies. His example for babies was how they sit with good posture so you should too. For me, after having a baby, the easiest way to get them to stop crying for no reason was to either give them a bath or go outside. It has worked for me as well when I felt stressed out overwhelmed.

    I've been watching your videos for awhile, since 9 styles days. I always always appreciate the ways you include people who might be disabled in your advice in such a chill and normal way. Often people make broad tips and go "well obviously I didn't mean [insert whole ass group of people] when someone points out they are over generalizing. Simply mentioning not everyone is able to go on walks seems like such a tiny detail but it means so much as a disabled person. And like fuck that should be incorporated more in the way people talk generally but it is still means so much.

    Thank You for this awesome end-of-year LIST✨! You're probably one of the very, very few of the many Australians I've come across on youtube that are genuinely generous with sharing practical and helpful authors, apps and websites, etc✨. Not to mention (but I'm mentioning anyway!), smart and insightful ideas!
    The other youtube "recommended" channels that have popped up based in Aus near my area (BNE) in various niches (fashion, lifestyle, art, etc) would only show, show and show what they got, where they go, what they did ~ with too much of those instrumental lazy music ~ BUT HARDLY telling the viewers where exactly did they go and from whom did they get for this and that kind of help, etc... Ahmm thanks to them for letting us waste-watch for 15minutes...anyway???
    So indeed your channel is kind of unique in its presentation, generousity and creativity that you very well deserve its success and so much more. 🎉Happy birthday, Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, wish you more success bro ✨! Excellent ⚡!

    Also, I had a suggestion. Could you try making videos that help explain or explore the creative process in more detail - for people that want to be creative or pursue a creative/unusual career or hobby, but just don't quite know how, like mentally, their brain just doesn't quite get it. Also please more videos on how to keep from feeling bored or unfulfilled or empty in life?

I honestly don't even remember if it was TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. But I had enough fortitude to say to myself, "nah, don't go plug the phone in and don't turn the TV on. Read that book you bought last year. Go on. Do it."

    I constantly use my car for posture!!! I'm doing my best! My new rule for this year has been to remind people there's no rush to make plans. There's so much pressure from society to do everything NOW, and I don't want to live like this. It's like this constant buzzing that tells people they have to do something, they have to do it immediately, and perfectly. I've put so much effort into quelling the pressure of productivity that I internalized. I get lonely, but it's more worth it to be at home with friends at our most comfortable. I am also putting lots of work mentally into distancing myself from labels and buzzwords so I can experience concepts as they are instead of compartmentalized ideas. That's not a great way to describe it, but hopefully, that resonates with someone.
