    When it comes to Hasselblad the brain says X2D but heart says 907X.
    Wallet says neither.

    One of the things that surprised me was how capable these older Hasselblad lenses still are on modern digital backs. Makes me feel good about picking one up recently (with the purpose of perhaps adding a digital back in a few years).

    I am a long time user of various Leica digital cameras and I have loved the 907 hasselblad from the coin of its introduction. I bought a camera body with a 45mm lens two years ago and was incredibly impressed with the picture quality and build of the camera. However, I found it so inconvenient to use in real life that I sold the kit after only a month. I was extremely disappointed. The camera is very uncomfortable and slow. I didn't plan to use autofocus knowing in advance that it doesn't work well. But manual focus on the wires - that doesn't work for me either.
    If I were a collector, I'd put it on a shelf and admire it.

    Nice balanced review BTW. No bias one way or another, just demonstrating that each unit is a tool fit for a purpose, whatever purpose fits an individual's method. And good advice too. Like everything, don't go beyond your means for material stuff. It's pretty, but not worth any level of stress to acquire. The reason I'm not driving a 911.

    Yes! This was the comparison I was looking for when the Hassy was announced; on paper, these two would like to be compared but once in actual use they are different enough so it's great when someone that has access to both pieces does this kind of videos.
    Thanks Benj.

    A camera is a tool for making photographs, right? Well, not really. Calling a Leica or Hasselblad a photographic tool is like calling a Porsche a means of transportation or a Rolex an instrument for telling time. Any of these can fulfil a functional role, and do it well, but in the end they are lifestyle accessories. By all means indulge yourself if you have the means, but don’t expect it to transform your life.

      I hate that saying “a camera is just a tool” when you get to Leica and Hasselblad they are instruments like Steinway. Sony,Canon and Nikon etc… are tools. Leica and Hasselblad are like Porsche and other luxury cars. Honda,Toyota and Nissan cars are just transportation.

    • @ol8122
      @ol8122 7 месяцев назад +7

      I agree with your last sentiment, but disagree with the idea of these being lifestyle accessories. Absolutely there are hobbyists who have no need for these cameras that buy them mainly due to their design and price tag to suit their perceived image. But a lifestyle accessory is not defined by price to me. I think more can be said so for Hasselblad’s line of digital Medium Format cameras. It all depends on the photographer’s needs for their work. These are tools that help you create something. You can’t really compare them to a Rolex or a Porsche that have no output.

    • @michaelacedeno
      @michaelacedeno 7 месяцев назад +4

      Saying a Porsche isn’t a tool just means your not using it as intended since their race cars are very much tools for the drivers in the cockpits.
      If you aren’t at the point where you can understand that they can be tools it’s totally okay but that doesn’t mean they aren’t tools to someone else.

    • @NeilRaja

      I would disagree, there is a definite quality to both of these systems, from the optics to the menus, they are designed for purpose. Like Ben said, they make you want to pick them up and shoot. I carry my Leica M10 with me everywhere, whereas my Sony sits in a draw until I need it. I have a Hassy 503 and it’s my go to whenever shooting film largely because of how I shoot when using it. Yes they are objects of desire but the usability of them is beautiful.

  • @malcolmmacgregor6222

    I use the Hasselblad X2D which is a much better camera than the 907x, for outdoor photography and landscapes. The main reason being it has a viewfinder, unlike the 907x. The 907x forces the photographer to use the LCD screen for composition and focusing which is suboptimal due to the vagaries of weather such as bright light or rain. So 907x is a non starter for outdoor work. No doubt it is a beautiful camera. The M11 is a great camera but does a different job in my view. My main camera is the X2D and will stick with that. Many thanks for the interesting review and comparisons.

  • @wisruteb
    @wisruteb 7 месяцев назад +1

    Two very different cameras based on my own experience with the 907X 50C and M10R. One will slow you down because it is a slow camera while the other one will be as fast as you can be.
    The 907X series is best when you have time on your side, and your surrounding is relatively calm. Leica M can be more versatile in more situations provide that you have the right skills to zone focus, or a good MF skill.

    Remember Sam Haskins quote “People look at your photographs and say you must have a very good camera. They never say that was a good meal you must have a good stove.” Well yes, Sam had a point, but when I got a Leica I realised what the fuss was about. The thought that had gone into it was noticeable because it wasn’t noticeable and the tactile experience of precision engineering was delightful. One day I will fool around with a ‘blad just to test this.

Finally I only keep the 55V order pay in full and cancel the rest. What is the point of good camera without lenses?? With Leica I can use any old lens or even from 3rd party , so many option.
    I tried to use Summilux 50 with adapter to X2D, the result is SHIT.
    Don't listen to the youtuber , but check the reality in the market.

    As an owner of Hasselblad 500 series cameras twice, I kick myself for selling these beautiful cameras and really want a 907c ever since the original special edition yet I haven't made the investment. The original 50mp was exceeded by Sony and 100mp without ibis is guaranteed to show diminished resolution at the slow shutter speeds I like to use. That Sony has lenses now that are world class and bodies that are small, their imaging chain makes images I can't get with either Hasselblad or Leica. I will continue to admire both H and L for making beautiful cameras.

      Great video, exactly what I needed.
      I grew up mostly shooting 120 film (my first camera was Pentacon sixTL + Kiev 88 later), and always loved that medium format look, but growing older portability takes priority.
      I currently own film: Fuji GA645i and Leica MP, Leica M2 with 35/2 kob and same summilux 50/1.4 as you have, and in digital it's GFX50ii with 55mm and with Mitakon 65, as well as X100F.
      I find that I really rarely reach out to my digital cameras, but there is a need/desire from time to time, and leaning towards selling my digital Fujies, so thinking of getting some digital Leica body (as the most logical choice), however also considered a digital Hasselblad.
      And before getting MP I was considering just going for 907X + something like 500CX as a complimentary film body, but I realised once again, that from medium format film, Zeiss lenses is simply not what I like (I'm much more of a Mamiya guy).
      Now the dilemma returned, but after watching your video I do think that some kind of digital Leica body is all I need, thank you!

    I'm not sure about getting a 907x 50c or a x1dii due to the lack of IBIS and the maximum shutter speed of 1/2000. I've heard that with those big megapixel sensors you are better off doing two or three times the intented shutter speed to get a nice sharp image. I imagine it will be problematic in bright conditions like in the video (snow an sun or sand and sun) if you only have 1/2000 (or 1/4000 with the new 100c) especially if the electrical shutter tends to bend elements in the picture. Whats your experience with limited shutter in bright conditions? Is 1/2000 in the 50c enough to get sharp photos (nature and portraits handheld?) and does the electrical shutter bend even with native lenses? Fyi - Colour Grade looks nice. Are there Presets with that look?

    Would consider one of these cameras in the future. Sadly they don’t have any video features at all. Soo Fuji X100VI it will have to be

      You can shoot video on the CFVii 50c digital back, not sure about this new one. But why would you want to.. no ibis, it seems like a huge hassle compared to a Fuji GFX.

    Thank you for your words. I don't own the expensive things, too. Will looking to buy one when the price goes down.
