The conductor is widely acknowledged as a great musician; the orchestra is simply gorgeous (its member are all great musicians as well. The music: Well... this typical from Rio de Janeiro (meaning "carioca", as we are known for having been born in the city of Rio de Janeiro). "Choro" ou "Chorinho" is the style. They are so many, all absolutely genial. It is pure brazilian music from Rio de Janeiro (carioca). The rendition deserves "Bravo! Bravo!... and BRAVO!!... (Just for a change... LOL)

There is another thing: if you are entering the US, you have to fill a form in which you also have to classify yourself as European Caucasian, Asian, African, Latin American Hispanic and... Brazilian. Wanna know why? Because Brazilians complained they could fit in any of those categories... Brazilians simply refuse to be labeled as Latin American Hispanic (even if we are geographically Latin American).

I like this recording. Not quite as exciting or musical as Barenboim and Chicago as Berlin is a little clinical here, but they look like they are having a lot of fun.

If you want to hear another blood stirring rendition of this tune find Xavier Cugat and "Tico Tico" on RUclips. This is not to denigrate this fine orchestras performance in any way. I love hearing the Berliner Philharmoniker.
This might be played anywhere around the whole world... Just gorgeous!!! Not exactly the same "choro" swing as you would find in the choro groups, but still a lot of swing and dynamics! Como eu te disse, toco clarinete, toco Bach, Mozart Haendel e outros. Eu nao esqueci minha lingua materna, consigo me comunicar, errar nao significa esquecer. Educaçao nao define gosto. Eu falo inglês. Nao e comunicarei nunca com urros e grunhidos. Minha educaçao foi e está sendo muito boa. Nao coloco compositores populares em nivel de ninguem pois frevo é bem diferente de música clássica, baroca ou romântica.
Desculpa pelo 'intende' cara, é que moro no Canadá à cinco anos, e vim pra cá com dez... É meio chato quando escrevo uma palavra errado. Mais claro, volto pra minha roda de samba lá na favela, pois as pessoas sao muito mais humildes, e vivem a vida com muito mais alegria do que você deve viver. Abraços canadenses, um país onde existe toda essa alegria de gente pobre.

@DANogueira1942 OK, but I never said Zequinha de Abreu was born in Rio or even came to Rio. The name "Tico-tico no Farelo" was given by somene commenting the behavior of dancing people during a ball. Then it was renamed "Tico-tico no Fubá", because there was a prior composition with the name "Farelo", by another composer. The music is really a classical "chorinho" and though coming from inland São Paulo has everything to do with the "chorinho carioca" (see what happens with "La Cumparsita"...)
