The Book of Mormon and LDS prophets identify today's Native Americans as literal descendants of Hebrews who traveled from Jerusalem in 600 B.C. and adopted the name of Lamanite. The Book of Mormon specifically mentions that they are descendants of Ephraim and Manasseh. DNA evidence contradicts this origin story, and the LDS church has had to backtrack on many of their false and racist ideas regarding Native Americans, their heritage, and their skin pigmentation.

In his book "The Lost City of the Monkey God" Douglas Preston recounts how the LDS church sent a number of "well-funded archeologist" to Mexico and central America to find proof that the Maya were one of the lost tribes of Israel. It didn't turn out as they had hoped. The archeologist found clear evidence that disproved the Mormon story. Some of those archeologists who spoke up were promptly excommunicated.

The Book of Mormon states that the Jaredites and Mulekites went extinct before the arrival of Lehi's family, and 2 Nephi chapter 1 details that the promised land would be set apart exclusively for Lehi's family and their descendants. This principle was validated by multiple church leaders, notably Jeffery R Holland who stated: "The Promised Land was set apart. Without habitation it waited for the fulfillment of god's special purposes."
-A Promised Land, Ensign Magazine 1976
As such the theory that the Laminates intermingled with people who were already in the Americas is incompatible with LDS doctrine.
This is why I love LDS doctrine. You don't even need to look to external sources to prove it wrong, it proves itself wrong.

What I don’t understand is the money and effort people put into fighting the LDS Church. If you don’t want to be a member then don’t. Use your time, talents and money to promote your own beliefs. Not trash someone else’s beliefs. Think of all the additional hours of service and money that would flow into communities. People have trashed the church for years, yet it keeps growing and growing and spreading. The church teaches not too bash or belittle somebody’s religion. Just teach the LDS teachings and let people make up their own mind.

No money was spent on any of my videos, and they only take a few hours to make. It's a small price to pay to make the truth available. The LDS church will have a negative growth rate by 2040, and it will never rise above 0.2% of the world population, with only 1/3 of that 0.2% actively attending. That means that 1 in 1,500 is the highest representation that active Mormons will ever achieve. People are making up their own minds, and I am not impeding their decision.

I'd be interested in knowing if DNA studies have been done on the Hopewell Indians who lived around 200 BC and became extinct around 400 AD?
Obviously you can see the speculation; making a tie between the Hopewell and Nephites. Knowing how intermixed the Lamanites and Nephites were near the end of the Book of Mormon there should still be DNA links to with whatever "Lamanite" people remained.
The one aspect that this video does not introduce would be whether or not there were any migrations since the Nephite extinction that "diluted" the genetics. I haven't studied enough to know if there were any migrations since 500 AD.
Of all the modern day prophecies mentioened about reserving "this land" for God's people, many believe that it specifically means the United States of America. Is it possible that other people from Mesoamerica and South America and even other parts of the world migrated to the US after the Nephite extinxion?
I know there's a lot speculation that the Hopewell were Nephites. It would be interesting to see if DNA studies have been done on any Hopewell remains.

This is a broad overview of Native American DNA and an oversimplification of the pre-Columbian migrations to the Americas. It does not take into account the prevalence of haplogroup X, which is prevalent in the Northeaster United States and its middle eastern origin. Fact is there were several migrations to the Americas. Thor Heyerdahl proved such migrations were possible using ancient Egyptian reed boats, and more recently the Phoenicia expedition also proved that using 6-7th century BC ships could easily cross the Atlantic Ocean to the East and Southern Coasts of the United States. Also, DNA sequencing of Native populations have not taken into account that up to 90% of the Native American populations in North and South America died off from disease within 100 years after contact with Europeans.

    • @TheMormonInformant
      @TheMormonInformant  Год назад +2

The presence of haplogroup X2a is not indicative of a recent migration from the Middle East. It is a marker unique to Native Americans, and it is not found anywhere in the Middle East. It's an indicator that the people who crossed into Beringia had some ancestry from people who lived in the Middle East 30,000 years ago.

The Book of Mormon does NOT say that Lehi's people were first. That is true. Those would be the Jaredites, who were COMPLETELY WIPED OUT when the Nephites arrived, and therefore they were gone from the continent (and the gene pool).
The Book of Mormon does mention a small group of other people, the Mulekites or "people of Zarahemla" in the Book of Omni. BUUUUUTTTT, the Book also says "Mosiah discovered that the people of Zarahemla came out from Jerusalem at the time that Zedekiah, king of Judah, was carried away captive into Babylon." So genetically, they would be exactly the same as the Nephites, having come from exactly the same area in roughly the same timeframe.
So, really, the Book of Mormon IS claiming that everyone in the New World came from Judah, either as a Lamanite/Nephite OR as a Mulekite. AND THAT IS IT. Where does it say and that is it? 2 Nephi Chapter 1:
3 And he also spake unto them concerning the land of promise, which they had obtained-how merciful the Lord had been in warning us that we should flee out of the land of Jerusalem.
5 But, said he, notwithstanding our afflictions, we have obtained a land of promise, a land which is choice above all other lands; a land which the Lord God hath covenanted with me should be a land for the inheritance of MY SEED. Yea, the Lord hath covenanted this land unto me, and to MY CHILDREN forever, and also ALL THOSE who should be LED out of other countries by the HAND OF THE LORD.
6 Wherefore, I, Lehi, prophesy according to the workings of the Spirit which is in me, that there shall NONE COME TO THIS LAND SAVE THEY SHALL BE BROUGHT BY THE HAND OF THE LORD.
7 Wherefore, THIS LAND IS CONSECRATED unto him whom he shall bring. And if it so be that they shall serve him according to the commandments which he hath given, it shall be a land of liberty unto them; wherefore, they shall never be brought down into captivity; if so, it shall be because of iniquity; for if iniquity shall abound cursed shall be the land for their sakes, but unto the righteous it shall be blessed forever.
8 And behold, IT IS WISDOM THAT THIS LAND SHOULD BE KEPT AS YET FROM THE KNOWLEDGE OF OTHER NATIONS; for behold, many nations would overrun the land, that there would be no place for an inheritance.
9 Wherefore, I, Lehi, have obtained a promise, that inasmuch as those whom the Lord God shall bring out of the land of Jerusalem shall keep his commandments, they shall prosper upon the face of this land; AND THEY SHALL BE KEPT FROM ALL OTHER NATIONS, THAT THEY MAY POSSESS THIS LAND UNTO THEMSELVES. And if it so be that they shall keep his commandments they shall be blessed upon the face of this land, and there shall be none to molest them, nor to take away the land of their inheritance; and they shall dwell safely forever.
Oh, and Mormon prophets FOR YEARS taught this was the case. That EVERYONE in the Americas was brought here by God, and that would NOT include random Siberians who now make up 99% of the gene pool when they bothered to research DNA.
Let me quote a conference talk by Jeffrey Holland that states this pretty explicitly:
    www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/ensign/1976/06/a-promised-land?lang=eng
    OPEN QUOTE:
Holy scripture records that “after the waters had receded from off the face of this land it became a choice land above all other lands, a chosen land of the Lord; wherefore the Lord would have that all men should serve him who dwell upon the face thereof.” (Ether 13:2.) Such a special place needed now to be kept apart from other regions, free from the indiscriminate traveler as well as the soldier of fortune. To guarantee such sanctity the very surface of the earth was rent. In response to God’s decree, the great continents separated and the ocean rushed in to surround them. The promised place was set apart. WITHOUT HABITATION IT WAITED FOR THE FULFILLMENT OF GOD’S SPECIAL PURPOSES.
With care and selectivity, the Lord began almost at once to repeople the promised land. The Jaredites came first, with stories of the great flood fresh in their memories and the Lord’s solemn declaration ringing in their ears: “Whoso should possess this land of promise, from that time henceforth and forever, should serve him, the true and only God, or they should be swept off when the fulness of his wrath should come upon them.” (Ether 2:8.)
Despite such counsel, however, the Jaredite civilization steadily degenerated into a violent society which forced a man to keep “the hilt of his sword in his right hand” (Ether 14:2)-until finally he “ate and slept, and prepared for death on the morrow.” (Ether 15:26.)
But even as the last light flickered on Jaredite civilization, a bold new sun rose to illuminate a thousand years of Nephite-Lamanite experience on the same soil. Despite periods of war and rebellion, these people nevertheless had great moments of power and purity, including the personal ministry of the resurrected Christ, who walked and talked and prayed with these New World inhabitants for three indescribable days. There in the meridian of time the land enjoyed three generations of peace and perfection, which it would not know again until the Master’s millennial reign.
But the lessons of history, if not learned well, are certain to be taught again, and a lone father with his son lived to see the self-destruction of these people of promise. The Nephite-Lamanite morality descended from “sorceries, and witchcrafts, and magics” (Morm. 1:19) into rape, murder, and cannibalism (see Moro. 9:7-10), creating a vision so repulsive that it was “impossible for the tongue to describe, or for man to write,” a scene of greater wickedness than had ever been seen “even among all the house of Israel” (Morm. 4:11, 12). A thousand years after God had given such choice land to their fathers and a thousand years before he would attempt to do it again, Mormon wrote to his son Moroni:
“O the depravity of my people! They are without order and without mercy. …
“They delight in everything save that which is good; and the suffering of our women and our children … doth exceed everything. …
“Thou knowest that they are without principle, and past feeling. …
“Behold, my son, I cannot recommend them unto God lest he should smite me.” (Moro. 9:18-20.)
This favored branch allowed to run over the wall had reached that forewarned “fulness of iniquity” and was dwindling into disorder, darkness, and death.
Then in the allegorical prophecy made of these events, “the Lord of the vineyard” looked at the waste of his creation-and wept. “What could I have done more for my vineyard?” was his painful cry. No answer could be given. “Have I slackened mine hand, that I have not nourished it? Nay, I have nourished it, and I have digged about it, and I have pruned it, and I have dunged it; and I have stretched forth mine hand almost all the day long, and the end draweth nigh.” (Jacob 5:41, 47.) In spite of such grief and despair the Lord of the vineyard determined to “spare it a little longer” (Jacob 5:50)-long enough for one final attempt, long enough for one more dispensation, long enough for one final experiment focused on the promised land.
So, after a thousand years of preparation, the Spirit of God rested upon a young Italian sailing under the flag of Spain, and, as Nephi had seen in vision, “he went forth upon the many waters, even unto the seed of my brethren, who were in the promised land.” (1 Ne. 13:12.) This “Christian of almost maniacal devoutness” as Alistair Cooke calls him, this man with the zeal of Galileo, Don Quixote, and John the Baptist combined, was not to be denied. (Alistair Cooke, America, New York: Alfred Knopf, 1973, p. 30.) “Our Lord with provident hand unlocked my mind,” said Columbus, “sent me upon the seas, and gave me fire for the deed. Those who heard of my enterprise called it foolish, mocked me, and laughed. But who can doubt but that the Holy Ghost inspired me?” (Jacob Wasserman, Columbus, Don Quixote of the Seas, New Brunswick: Rutgers Univ. Press, 1959, p. 20.) Columbus stood on the captain’s deck, but the all-seeing eye of the Lord was on the compass, and the hopes of every dispensation filled the sails. The prophet Nephi had also seen in vision what followed: colonization, war, and the birth of a new nation.
“And it came to pass that I, Nephi, beheld that the Gentiles who had gone forth out of captivity did humble themselves before the Lord; and the power of the Lord was with them.
“And I beheld that their mother Gentiles were gathered together upon the waters, and upon the land also, to battle against them.
“And I beheld that the power of God was with them, and also that the wrath of God was upon all those that were gathered together against them to battle. And I, Nephi, beheld that the Gentiles that had gone out of captivity were delivered by the power of God out of the hands of all other nations.” (1 Ne. 13:16-19.)

According to the Book of Mormon, the Lamanite DNA was no longer Israelite DNA. However that happened, they were a racially DIFFERENT people.
Since all the Nephites were destroyed, then according to the Book of Mormon, there should not be any Israelite DNA in the Americas.

Also, neither of those verses mention DNA changing, only skin color. This would not have any effect on which haplogroups they had in their genome. The two groups also intermarried following the "curse" for a hundred years, meaning that any Lamanites at the end of the wars would be a mix of Nephite and Lamanite and carry Lehi's genes.

To the "Mormon Informant," on the DNA Chart, it shows that all the DNA studies applied were in South America except one.
LDS Scholars claim that it was South America where the Nephites and Lamanites dwelt, not so according to recent studies.
They dwelt in North America only, primarily from Michigan to Main, to Florida and towards the Rockies.
Haplo Group X2 has been traced amongst the natives of those regions to the Middle East/Israel.
It's true that the Mayans have a close connection with the Hindus of India, especially with their gods and religion, so it's no wonder Asian DNA would be found in that region.
The Hopewell (the mounds people) timeline coincides with Lehi's first landing, mind you that the majority of studies/archaeology are performed by non-LDS researchers.

As one who believes in the authenticity of the Book of Mormon, your complaints against it seem meaningless since you so inaccurately state my beliefs and make a lot of biased assumptions in order to create a straw man you can easily build a case against. If people are at all interested in truth, and want to exercise a bit of skepticism and critical thinking, they should apply some to your claims as well, and make some small effort to learn what knowledgeable members of the church base their beliefs on. You would find it much harder to mock other's beliefs if you were a little more honest about what they actually claim and why.

DNA "evidence" is not so conclusive either for or against any arguement. There are too many anomalies such as disasters, wars, multiple migrations, intermingling of people, genetic drift, genetic mutations, genetic uncertainty of the original group (Lehi, for example, could've had east Asian, west Asian, or even African DNA markers especially considering how long the children of Israel were in Egypt), and a massive host of other anomalies. DNA is absolutely not conclusive. It is possible for you to have different DNA in your own body. It is possible for a child's DNA to not match that of its parent. If you do not believe that, please study a little more about DNA. It's not as conclusive as Hollywood portrays it.

"It is true that the American subgroup of X2 is related to the Middle East. But it is also clear that the American group broke off from that Middle East group around the time of the “Last Glacial Maximum”-the point where the last ice age’s glaciers reached their furthest southern extent about 18,000 years ago. *This clearly means that the X2 haplogroup is unrelated to Lehi’s group."* - Ugo Perego, LDS geneticist

They can't pinpoint exactly time frames on genetic markers, they find out that genetically they change more frequently than they expected. Genetics is still relative still new, they still need to study it more to see the correlation between time and genetic markers.

The Book of Mormon setting was in a land chosen by God, not two continents. The area according to Alma was about the size of ancient Israel before they were conquered and led away in to captivity. Not that big. The Hill Cumorah is the same as the hill described by Mormon. The small area was a place of many waters and mountain ranges stretching from the Great Lakes area east ward into New York State, which definitely at the time of the Nephite's was a land of many "seas" lakes and rivers, created by glacial water and have since drained away. The furthest most boundary west was lake Erie, north Lake Ontario the east sea was a huge glacial sea that has since drained into lake Ontario.

That is not true. The great lakes tribes carry subhaplogroup *X2a,* while Middle Eastern peoples carry *X2, X2b, X2e,* and *X2f.* *X2a is nowhere to be found in the Middle East,* and the other X subclades were not present in the Americas until post-Columbian admixture. These subclades diverged roughly 30,000 years ago, so that is how far back you would have to trace the family tree to find common ancestry for both groups. ruclips.net/video/FUBQeAf6Lbc/видео.html

The standard of truth has been erected. No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished and the great Jehovah shall say the work is done.
