Thank you for the review thus far! It answered a lot of my questions, especially where the object avoidance is concerned. I do have a question and a comment to make: first, have you heard anything about whether or not this drone will be made compatible with the V2 goggles? I saw one comment online where DJI said "Maybe in a future firmware update," which isn't very reassuring. The V2 goggles - for me anyway - make flying a drone MUCH better and easier than a smart phone clamped to the controller. I haven't seen the smart controller with the built-in screen, but for me, the V2 goggles are so much further ahead than a hand-held display that I can't imagine the smart controller's screen can come close. I'm so sold on the goggles that I won't buy the M3 until and if DJI makes the two work together. So any info on your part about compatibility and a "firmware update" would be appreciated.
My comment: I'd suggest not saying anything in your videos along the lines of "more than most of you folks will need..." (21:50) I'm certain it's not your intention, but such remarks can come off sounding a bit condescending and, IMHO, adds a tiny bit of grit into what's otherwise an excellent video. Much appreciated!

Russ, One thing comes to mind about the Micro SD Card...I always remove it to download since the days of the Spark and all other models because of the slow transfer rate when connecting to the craft. Adapter to the computer transfers faster. BUT how about checking the transfer rate of the Mavic 3? could it be real USB C speeds?

Just because you may have “worked hard” doesn’t mean you aren’t a DJI stooge and shill- by necessity. You depend on getting drones early to drive user content and income for yourself, so you will not be totally honest and gloss over flaws. Moreover, DJI provides you free units (not loaners) so you have an added incentive to shill for the company.
Also, you are given a specific "script sheet" by DJI and instructions on specific points to say in videos like this.
In essence, you are being compensated and obviously have a conflict of interest that you don't reveal.
In most industries, this wouldn't be permitted and would need to be revealed, but as we all know, RUclips is the wild west and unregulated. Sure, many "creators" like you may make good videos, helpful videos in some cases, etc but you will never disclose the inherent bias you have from the thousands of dollars of free gear you get as well as early access. The most honest reviews you will get are from those who purchase it with their own money.

Hey Russ, on the air 2s, the obstacle avoidance will not function nearly as well in 4K 60 as it does in 4K 30 or lower. I’ve tested it over and over again in different setting and at the highest resolution and frame rates it will just stop but can’t find a way around an obstacle. When you tested it without recording, it did great. As soon as you started recording in 5K it acted just as the air 2s does in high res. I believe the processor just can’t do both tasks (record at high res/frame rate and avoid obstacles at the same time). I would love to see if you lower the resolution if it will perform obstacle avoidance better. Just a thought. Love your channel by the way. Keep up the good work! 😀

way WAY over priced, so much so; There a part of my that wishes sales a horrible and they are forced to realize that reality of it’s not “cutting edge tech” you put a sensor that has been on the market for years on the drone, lower it to a reasonable price. What price would be reasonable you ask. To me, M3 with fly more bundle 1,300.00 ~ 1,500.00. The Cine, it’s a firmware/internal software difference. Not worth it. (To Me). Pricing themselves out of mass sales…

  • @FelipeArtista

You know the Mavic 3 was released because a lot of people are putting up their Mavic 2s for sale, hoping to use the money to offset the cost of acquiring the Mavic 3. Frankly, I believe it is overpriced. For those of us who own a Mavic 2 Pro, we waited for years for DJI to release the firmware update that would allow filming at 4K60FPS, and they never did.
Unlike the Inspire 1, the Inspire 2 cannot be fitted with the thermal lens, for that you have to shell out another fortune to acquire a Matrice. The Autel Evo II solutions have forced DJI to rush the Mavic 3 to market, and I say "rush" because some of the features of the Mavic 3 will only become available in a future firmware update.
Frankly, I've had enough of DJI's money grubbing marketing tactics. My next drone is going to be an Evo II, and now that my son is old enough to register a UAV, I'm going to get him an Autel Nano. DJI will not learn until they start to lose market share.

One other test for you to try out. Most of us have no issue with not flying head on into trees... How about come into the trees from the side (or the rear) because that is where we as pilots makes our mistakes. As we pan L/R and slide in the opposite direction we can't see the direction we're going in (unless we maintain Vlos) but presuming the PIC is engrossed in his footage and (He/she/Observer) is NOT looking up and watching where the drone is going and slides into a tree. In my case I was watching my drone slide into a tree and didn't realize that I was still giving my right stick a little pressure so I slid into a tree.
So to me, if the drone can protect me from myself and doing stupid S**t like that then it's worth it.

If you already own a Mavic 2 pro or Autel Evo 2 Pro then no need to upgrade. The Cene model however may be worth it for the professional who wants to have this extra feature. IMO, an experienced drone pilot should invest in paying a fraction of the cost for videography, photography and editing lessons rather than buy the Mavic 3 in order to produce great quality work.

Is HLG still an option as on the Mavic 2? Also you didn't touch on the fact that the H265 bitrate is only 140mb/s and not 200mb/s as in H264. This REALLY important for pros to know as we need to see if it is really necessary to buy the cine or not.

Well , I think DJI is trying to kill their own business. $2200 for the base model , $3000 for the fly more combo , and let's just forget about the Cine package. The jump from base to fly more is enough all by itself to buy you a Mavic Air 2S. Some of this can be explained away by lingering tariffs, supply chain issues, and just general inflation, but they have now crossed over the threshold of pain for the average hobbyist. I for one will not be crossing that threshold any time soon and I suspect many others won't either. Paying $1800 for a P4P V2 was my limit and more than I could really justify at the time but $2200 for the base Mavic 3 is too much. I acknowledge that DJI has been steadily demarcing the lines between hobbyist and Pro product lines , but damn , the Mavic Pro was the sweet spot between the Mavic Air series and the Inspire (which is totally beyond the needs and reach of most Drone users) , and now it has become TOO Pro for most of us to afford. Yep , I know you can't buy a Maserati for the price of a Chevy but there is a point , a line , where the Chevy is good enough. Now I know that most responders to this comment will say "if you can't play , get outa the game", or "Maybe Hubsan has something for you", but that won't change the fact that this drone is just too damn costly.

Just flew my Mini 2 last week, for the first time. 2 outings just enough to go through 1 battery. I think I will trash it and run out with my credit card for the Mavic 3.....Kidding, I will fly the heck out of the Min 2 and wait for the Mavic 5....I don't drink Starbucks, so in 2 years time, no sweat...

Great review. Small point - at around 5:49 you state that the Mavic 3 records at up to 200 megabits per second, although you noted in the text the it records at up to 200MBPS. That's 200 megabytes per second. It should be 200Mbps (small b and also a small nit to pick).

Hi Russ, to solve the issue with props falling out of the M3 Bra, build up the “nubs” with Bondic. Cure each layer with the provide Led light. Job done. Get it here: @t Keep up the great videos, I may win the Lotto and buy myself an M3 :-/

Hi Russ, I’m looking at retiring my trusty Phantom 4 Pro, with the Crystalsky controller, how relevant is the Mavic 3 10 months on from launch, and seeing as i detest using a phone or an iPad for controlling it, would I be better off with a Cine package?

Isn’t the telephoto lens 12 MP ? I am keenly watching this space to see the active track 5.0 performance. If it doesn’t do what I want it to, Ill add the Air 2s to my drones instead of the Mavic 3. For the price of the Mavic 3, most folks who shoot for social media could buy the Air 2s and a high end MacBook Pro

I love the video! Very informative. What kind of hookup to you have connecting your Tripltek 8 Pro to the controller? I bought one after watching your review on it. Best tablet I have owned to date so far. I have been looking for something nice for my Mavic 2 and Mini 2. Thanks!

To get eXpress replacement you have to have a credit card that you can do a temporary hold for 1500 😢 and or $650 to calibrate the camera sensor and then whatever damage elsewhere on the device that was sustained for the whole purpose of sending it off for repair it’s better to just do your Xpress replacement, right??? oh, and one last thing dude, take your battery out before you take the card out otherwise you can corrupt Sid card ? Just a thought.

Whats up with DJI. Mavic 3 pro looks good but apparently cannot handle a smart controller. No smart controller with the combo. The basic model $3k doesn't come with a smart controller must pay 5k to get one?

I was interested in the combo but it's A$4,200 here in Australia and I don't see a A$2,000 improvement over the Air 2 S. DJI corporate greed sadly.

According to a Chinese channel, the lens on the 4/3 sensor is very likely to have very high distortion, only to be corrected digitally. As a result, the corner noise level is unusually high after correction. I will wait to be sure on everything before making a decision as I would use for photos more, adding that it still doesn’t has genuine manual control for photography at launch. For video, it might not bring huge advantage over Mavic 2 pro or Mavic Air 2S. Watch that from 8:50 to 9:45 in the video. ruclips.net/video/b50o0UXOc0I/видео.html

Smart move by DJI if you ask me. However, I haven't shot a Hass since I retired from photography. It used to be a great camera/ lens

Ehhh....it's okay! Still NOT the greatest. Still has flaws and half baked features. Obstacle sensing and avoidance need a lot of work to make it respond quicker and faster when closing in on obstacles. 10% improvement over the previous mavic is nothing to be worth ooooh and awwwwee about. Not impress if it's still having issues. There are other drones that can do much better at sensing obstacles and go around it or above it with ease.

  • @Felix-pm1fg

So in January with the update this Obstacle Avoidance will get even better with APAS 5.0? Or did you already tested the APAS 5.0 beta?

You should always hear a microSD card audibly "click" when it's locked into place when inserted fully into the slot. If it doesn't "click" it's not locked in.

    Hi from Brazil!
If I may make a humble and unpretentious comment, I have already noticed in another video that I watched that every time someone tries to make a return home with drones and by chance the person's leftover is overlapping the land pad the process of returning home does not occur satisfactorily. Note that when you take off with the Mavik 2 pro your shadow overlaps your return home point and when the drone returns it lands very close to your shadow. Please understand that the above comment is just the comment of a layman new to the subject.

Why would it get hung up if it also has an upward sensor? Shouldn't it just climb on altitude until it has a forward path again? Not seeing a big improvement from Mavic 2 regarding foward obstacle avoidance so far.

Can't understand at the price of this drone why the obstacle avoidance is so laggy. It struggles and has to think about it. This drone is no comparison to my skideo 2 why can't DJI get this right for such a big company. Great review though

And those who say otherwise haven't met many regular working-class Chinese living in mainland China.
