I've never sewn a thing in my life, I'm just four days into learning patterns. I started getting confused at 7:29 but you have explained it so well. I'll replay this video and practise till I get there. Thank you so so so much!

Well done ! Thank you so much for these videos. I truly appreciate your ability to share your technical knowledge practically.kudos! However, my question on this skirt pattern is on how you came about the 5" measurement for the hip yoke which you mentioned. Is it a standard measurement for every body size?
Wonderful, God bless you! I love your illustration & I will tried this method. I've tried other methods & the front of my skirts always longer than the back. Thank you again!
Love your channel, thanks for sharing your knowledge. Pls about the waist line ,what if I want to draft from my Belly botton waist which is like 3inches away from natural waist cos that's where I put my skirt so will I use the same method or how do I go about it. Thank you
Thanks for commenting 🥰 For the low waist skirt, first draft following same process and afterwards you cut come.down natural waist line 3" inches thereabout as preferred. Note that this your low waist circumference will sure be wider than the value at the natural waist line
You're the best ma Please ma, the principle of ( subtracting waist circumference from the hip) if you are making a normal low waist skirt or high waist skirt how can one determine the right figure where it falls in ? Because the upper waist and lower waist circumference isn't the same measurement when measured
Once you draft the skirt Pattern, you can lower as much as you desire. As you lower, the waist circumference increases and will hang where ever you want
It varies and that is the essence of the table attached. Once you check the difference between waist and hip, then you look up the table as guidance. Thanks
Thanks so much. I would like to ask anytime I use waist measurement of waist to hips:8" I end up getting a high waist skirt and not a normal low waist skirt. What is the fault?
So sorry , just seeing this. If you do 8", you are supposed to remove band with from it. You don't do 8" and latter be adding band, it will make actual hip low. And you may have to pull-up for it to be normal
I'm new on ur channel but I found your teaching very interesting, in my own research I discover that shoulder sloper are different with every individual . Pls if u can help with shoulder sloper I will be grateful
Yes, you are right! Shoulder slope varies from person's to persons. However, using an average slope of 1" and 1½" for back and front respectively for an adult will still give you a perfect fit. Whatever, the actual slope is will still be within that range. Not any obvious effect. Thanks for commenting
@Lapery College of Fashion Thanks for the reply...from the hemline, 1 inch was subtracted from both front and back side seams (for shaping). In addition, 1 inch was subtracted from the centre back. But because the back was 1/2 inch more than front, it is like having subtracted 1/2 inch more on the back.
Hello ma thank you for this tutorial,my questions is should the hip ease be the same as the the difference bn the waist and hip measurement?,or you add both the ease and the difference, thanks
Thanks for commenting. You simply remove the width of the band from the the basic pattern. Then attach afterwards. You may check my video on how to draft pencil skirt with flounce. Thanks
Very lovely tutorial, the best for me,God bless u real good.. my question is do i have to subtract the waist measurement from the hip measurement to get the waist to hip different?and is 5inch the standard for hip yoke line and 10inch for lower hip line?
Yes ma. You subtract waist from hip to know the difference, then those are the standard guides for hip yoke and hip lines. Your actual hip will fall within the 8" to 10". Hope I answers you well? Thanks for commenting.
Hello ma'am I just ran into your channel and I've already subscribed bc I really love your tutorials. Pls keep it up. Pls a quick one.. Is it on the lower or upper hip line you input your hip measurements? Regards
So sorry just seeing this. Following the Drafting steps, you hip measurement automatically falls into place. The upper and lower hipline is same mesurement

Pls how can I determine the length of the hip from waist line. Or should I adopt the method you used above 5inch for yoke, 8 for hip and 10 for lower hip
Thanks for commenting. Still go ahead to use upper and lower hipline 8" &10" Your actual hipline will fall within that range. Not a particular location
Thanks for commenting. I will get there. Its a process, kindly be patient. I just want to take the classes sequentially/orderly so that people following can grow with me without being confused or mixed up of information or knowledge.
So sorry for late response. The 1" at the CB is for tightening. It gives the back side the fit it should have. Remember the buttocks pushed the garment away from our body, so that tightening brings back the shape and fitting.
After transfer of pattern, first confirm your skirt Length. You may need to reduce or increase the basic pattern as need be. Then Simply remove the width of the band from the pattern and proceed to whatever skirt design you want to do. Thanks for commenting
Hello 😀 , I'm working on a skirt with the waist and hip difference of 17 inches. Do I make the back dart 2 inches? waist is 38 hip is 55. Do I use all the measurements on your chart on the last row 12 upwards?
Yes madam.. use the last row. You need to increase the back dart to about 2½ or 3 to reduce sharpness from wiast to hip. When you do that, you will split the darts into 2. Width is one will be 1½ then the other 1or 1½ as well. Just share.
Increase the width. Instead of the 2" in the table, you may increase to 3" and when you do, it might be too fat to be constructed in one place so you share it into 2. You will have 2 darts constructed on each side of the back instead of 1 single dart
@@laperycollegeoffashion8737 ok. Thank you. Is there any other way to do without 2 darts. The fabric has a good stretch. Do I keep the length at 6 inches for the back.
@@slrcouture if fabric is stretchy, you wouldn't need all that since you might reduce the hip measurement or not add seam allowance. Just make it a single dart.
Hello ma, just thinking. If you use 0.5 as the reduction when you open it up it’ll be 1 inch. Is it ok to say you reduce 1 inch from front and add it to the back?

Lapery College of Fashion I apologize. My question was in reference to you mentioning in the video at the top waist to keep the line straight across and not go down by .5+ at the center front or go up .5 inch at the side. Can I draft this exact way and use for a gown?
Enjoying your channel so much. I am learning a great deal. You explain very well. I want to find out if a person fall in two sizes,(L & XL) do you still add ease, and what dart size should you use? Thank you
Thanks a lot. My question is both the front and back hem line are not equal. I noticed that due to side shaping you deducted 2 inches from the back hem line why is it so
The deductions were (fitting/shaping lines). You only follow those fitting lines when you want to achieve a FITTED Skirt. And since your buttocks would have raised up the back piece( not resting on your lap/thigh as the front), then you need more tightening at the back to achieve fitness. Hope that answers the question? Kindly wait for the Analysis of the drafting method. Thanks
Me again, I was wondering how would a waist band be applied here. I'm looking at the curves to the waist and I'm not sure how that will be adjusted on to a waist band. Thanks
So sorry. Just seeing this. The band is already inclusive in the skirt Lenght. Simply remove band width and attach afterwards. However, note that any band width more than 1.5" is considered big band and as such will be handled differently.
