IT IS WONDERFUL! I not only had the chance to learn about this new feature from the team while in Toronto, I got the chance to use it here at home, and I'm blown away. Yes, it's a first version, and there is no such thing as software without bugs - HOWEVER - it's easy to use, it's fast, and I'm willing to bet you'll have as much fun as I do when painting my models!

It does remind me of Paint in Windows back in the 80's. Great next step on the path to easier multi-color for the masses. Thanks for the look.
I really like the idea of printing other thing with the purge block and can't wait to see what they do next.
Great video.Keep up the good work.
Exactly
So glad to see they got this function working. Once they get the purge blocks under control I will have to buy there system.
Thanks for the update Joel.
Thanks for watching!
Hi Joel, I'm a noob, I just ordered a Ender 3 pro, I wanted to thank you as I'm learning by watching all your videos, you are by far the best. x from Dublin.
Excellent Joel! This looks like a game changer for sure. Especially what's coming down the pipeline. The ability to make a separate print model for the purges would be awesome. Something that will be entirely painted anyway, so the colors used wouldn't matter at all. Looking forward to the future.
Thanks Joel and Sean!
My idea to get rid of the purge block is:... Wait for it. . . Print filament and roll it up. Then use it on stuff you don't care what color it is. Prototyping tests parts. BAM!

Checking to see if I was the only one that heard thst or not. 😂
Hahahaha I heard it too 😂😂
OH MY GOD!! I HAVE NEVER SEEN A DR.WHO AND RICK AND MORTY SHIRT LIKE THAT!!! I just came buckets
That was such an awesome video. I better start saving for my mosaic palette since it is $499 at this time. But I want it. Thanks Joel great information. High Five ✋🏼
This is huge! Been waiting on this since the Palette 2 launched. It's even better than I had hoped. Good overview!
Sweet! Something cool I'll have to get somewhere along the way.
I’m really exited to mess around with the software. It looks AWESOME!
This is a fantastic idea, great work guys.
yess this is what i want i want it so bad
are you going to make money of it
Wow, Joel, that is so cool, great to see the progress on this. I really must try get my hands on a Palette to test and review. Next big project. Great new products, nice to see thanks Joel for bringing us this cutting edge stuff, you da man.
Hey Joel and the Palet team if you want text on a flat surface you should not need to build it into your slicer. You can, but there is a easy way to do it in CAD. In solidworks all you have to do is split the surface with text. When it is generating the STL the triangles will form around this split surface. This will also allow the person to color while they are modeling. The same should be possible in most CAD software I just don't know the proper lingo.
I have to do it when making product renderings that have labels (stickers)
This is great can't wait to try it out got my Palette almost a year ago I did a lot of mods to it to get it to stand on it's end and removed the digital readout & put it in it's own holder on 36" ribbon cables and mounted the filament spool holders on to the side of the palette this makes it take up so much less area on my print bench I tried doing the cut this color that re mesh all of this & hope it all some how magically comes out had some luck but it was a real bit of work this looks SO MUCH BETTER !
Cannot wait to see!
Good information here it is a part of tech that needs to be looked into for better ways of using the filament for less waste but sounds like they are making great headway.
So to avoid color purging, we need bigger multihead printers? Single nozzle for colors is otherwise too wasteful? But that transitional model idea sounds really good. I personally hate wasting any filament.
Maybe this has been talked about before, but couldn't a Palette device theoretically blend CMYK filaments to produce full color prints? That would be awesome!
I'd simply buy a Pallet 2, but their software being online only is a whole lot of nope for me; been burnt by this setup in the past.
That should be my design of Zoidberg at 17:06 So cool to see it in one of your videos. :-)
Interesting new feature! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I really like your movies.
They should add a functionality to export the painted stl as multiple stl that others who have a MMU2 (like me) can print normal stl in multicolor.
They can sell the app or the login for some money a year or whatever.
Did you see towards the end where they said they were developing it for the MMU2?
3D Printing Nerd
Oh, really? My kids were a little bit loud today in the morning so I haven’t heard everything. Then I will watch it again.
Thank you from Germany 🇩🇪
Wow! I’m buying this!
Haha, i really held my breath for a second before i finished reading the whole title! xD, Nice vid! are you getting a palette?
Great video. Thanks Joel.
PLEASE make a version for the Prusa MMU! I have a MMU2S and it is a huge pain to convert single STLs to Multicolor in meshmixer
THEY ARE!!!
So I just rebuilt a dual extruding machine imagine the possibilities of two pallets to canvases awesome
It's just an aside, but as a Canadian with a Canadian version of Amazon Prime, thank you for the Canadian link to use when shopping on Amazon.ca. You're one of my favorite 3d printing channels, so I'll try to do my part with the link 8)
Not too fond about the transition model idea. But the transition _infill_ idea, count me in! Seems like a rather nice use of otherwise tossed material. Something else; had Mosaic ever thought of a modular system where future iterations of Mosais hardware could allow users to add more colours by adding more -spool slack- drive modules? Sounds weird, but I feel like that should be possible,
I have the old wooden Replicator Dual (still going strong) and gave dual extruder prints a real try. I ended up taking one extruder nozzle out and only using one extruder, it never printed clean because of the nozzle not in use would ooze all over the place. The only solution would be a tool changer or independent moving heads so one could get out of the way with a physical wipe when it would park to the side. Maybe a park with a block to stop oozing so that it won't have to extrude so much before the tools reentry. Or have the tool not in use move up and block the nozzle, but that seems like it could have more issues than one would want.
This just made me wonder if you could daisy-chain Palette's to include more than 4 colors, could potentially be cool.
Great Video I think the Transition towers are a pain and it's not the material wastage, its the time a Model sliced in S3d by itself 5-6hr put into palette and the block puts it up another 12hrs making it a 18hr print, bring it on when we can reduce the Tower.. but I love the Palette.
Very cool technology. I'm excited to follow it's development. High five!
This is really cool. Does Canvas create stls usable for the Prusa mmu or is it only for the Palette? This would make multimaterial prints way easier to make.
You know I should finish watching videos before making comments lol still really cool
no, it's strictly for Palette currently
Right now, it's for the Palette family. However, we DO talk about it's future and what is coming :)
@@3DPrintingNerd I did see that. Thank you for responding though. I'll have to keep an eye out for when this potentially comes to the prusa mmu. He made it look so effortless compared to splitting up models in meshmixer.
High five back from holland
Interesting. My only Hangup is it sounds like you’re forced to use their slicer. Maybe it’s the best slicer ever, but I know printing petg and nylons that I need lots of control to reduce stringing, blobs, etc. If I’m forced to use their slicer and settings, I’d like to see how much control I actually have.
Coloring is awesome....as long as your material can print cleanly :)
also there is virtually no error recovery, if somehow the printer and palette get out of sync you are done, since there is no communication between the two there is no way to recover.
while it also has its issues this is the huge plus of the Prusa MMU2s, whenever it detects an error while loading or unloading is pauses and waits for you to solve the problem, same thing if the filament runs out.
So cool! I've been waiting for this functionality before I get the palette. It would be cool if you put that model into Blender and just subdivide the polygons and then try it again. It should be able to paint a smooth line across the belly then. Maybe even enough to create a matching t-shirt to one the real you could wear at the same time. :D
Thanks for another great video. High-5!
YES! I think subdividing in Blender would do the trick. I think Mosaic IS working on polygon splitting as well.
I think purge blocks should in the future have a option to add it to the infill we could get really strong parts for the ewuilavent of the purge blocks sure I could see issues that could come from this but I see possible immediate solutions
Good to know they are looking into working with the MMU.
I'm thinking it would be cool to use multiple mosaic pallets on a multi extruder printer. Maybe taking advantage of my multiple stls to add additional colors. Would at least be a cool thing to experiment with. 🤔
You should be able to add an stl for the waste pile so you get something useful out of it :)
They are working on adding that to Canvas!
Just finished the vid your giving me meshmixer ptsd took a day for me a noob to make a dratini mmu
Expert content maker!
Good to see you visiting Cananada!
Transition towers versus Purge buckets what's your opinion?
Voxilizer 2 also does painting and has for a while now. Its in beta for non zmorph printers, but it works great. Im using it right now with an m3d quadfusion printer. Id like to try the cavas version when they open it up a bit more as vox likes to have a lot of its own language.. like they rename zhop and other things to their own internal names. At any rate.. hopefully they open it up a bit more soon. ..and if they add gradients! Well that would be excellent. (vox has gradients which is what I use it for most of the time)
With this feature you gonna need higher polycount models.
True, for best results, more polygons is more better :)
But if they look at polygon splitting you may beable to just increase count along a color edge to create smooth edges.
I believe polygon splitting is on the roadmap!
Looks interesting. I don't think it was explained as well as it could have been, but I get it.
What words were missing?
@@3DPrintingNerd I don't think words were missing. I think the explanation of how it works needed to be simplified a little more though because it took me until about half way through the video to figure out how they were doing it. Like it was too much technical jargon for a layman to understand easily in addition to different terminology that can confuse. Primarily a better explanation in how the slicing system and the layering of the plastic works earlier on in the video may have helped.
Part of the confusion for the longest time was that it was referred to as painting and it made it sound like there was a painting attachment that would spray paint as the layers went down at first. Now I know it's referring to painting in model space, which is still an apt description.
I think something like a partial print of a larger sized print to show what the model looks like on the inside would have significantly helped as well.
Again, I think it looks interesting and it can be quite the powerful tool in the right hands now that I get how it works, and is a great step in simplifying multi-material options. The confusion almost made me lose interest, but I stuck through until I figured out how they were doing it and if I had a system that did multiple colors, I'd definitely be more interested. I'd be even more interested if they could somehow convert UVW texture maps, but obviously that would have to be a future feature if even possible.
This is FANTASTIC feedback and I'll work to get a simplified video explanation out in the near future!
@@3DPrintingNerd **high five**
I need the "painted" airship in my life.
The software should allow some kind of metadata to identify regions automatically on import like standard object groups from most 3D editing softwares.
That's what different 3D formats are for - like .3mf, .amf or, if you're old school, Wavefront .obj and .mtl files.
Hey there, I know this is an old video, but have these improvements made their way to canvas yet? Having a model be the purge block, or using the infill? My palette 3 pro just shipped today. Thanks.
Have they implemented their ideas with the infill or using the purge blocks for another model?
Ontario, Canadada. How exciting!
18 minutes? Wow! That’s fast even with just one color.
Just thought that it might be a great idea to have the transition or purge block inside the model itself (not good for small models but for big ones this would be great. Simplify3D has this slicer setting where you can have one solid or alternating solid infill (if memory serves me right) could probably utilize that idk
Must have t-shirt!
Good job, Mosaic!
Hoping for the MMU version. great video Joel
Cool vid Joel - looking forward to Canvas for multi extruder machines. I like many can't currently afford a Palette 2 Pro. Love the rainbow mini Joel -are you going to give him away?
Honestly, maybe someone will come up with a cool CNC approaches to carving the transition blocks.
I feel like, depending on how tweakable the shape of the purge blocks are, folks could easily save 'em up over time and give them to a preschool as "building blocks", little kids would probably love the colours. Probably wanna sand the edges and corners though... Still, colourful building blocks.
Tbh as imaginative as little kids can be, the shape of the blocks wouldn't necessarily _need_ tweaked too much.
Yeah man, rastafari !
I wonder if you can use this for dissolving supports?
Thanks for sharing and as always keep building👍
Yes you can! It'll take PVA
I need that Rick and Morty tee-shirt! 😂
Terrific !
So cool, so damn much! I think its time for a competition.. **Wink Wink**
One thing, if you can edit the polygons/vertex, in another program. like max then you could maybe edit files with this painting in mined, untill they get it working in canvas.
I think that’s a great idea!
That Captain Marvel bust. Is there an available bust for that other Captain Marvel? Would love to see the two together.
There is! Check one of my recent videos!
I'm not gonna lie. I'd love a rundown of the palette 2 vs the MMU2. i'm tempted to delve into multi-colour printing on my i3 mk3. But it's super hard to decide which one to go with.
I can give you one once I have some experience with the MMU2! I don’t have one to play with.
@@3DPrintingNerd haha, that'd be awesome! We've got to bug Josef to send you one!
Transition Towers always look like really pretty bricks and I want to stack them into something.
Someone needs to make them into art, or a chair or something.
Couldn't the I fill be the transition? Would that work?
It can, and it is currently in their other slicer software - they are working to bring it to Canvas.
@@3DPrintingNerd I just fell like making the model solid and getting rid of the the purge block would be more efficient and filament saving.
That’s possible for some I bet.
This is the quintessence of what this channel has promised to be. The juice. The substance. The meat. Money shots for every girl and boy. Nicely boiled down to the essential bits & bobs. 100% purity. Dangerous. Potentially fatal. The scourge of the streets. Will legislation be required to keep it in line?
That mini Joel looks like he's Jamaican
Irie Joel
I’m Jamaican and I approve
Talking about transition towers, if I like to have multi color, I have to deal with those towers, Punctum...
If you take your car and drive, nobody complains about fuel and tyres worn...
And if you use large models or multi print a model, the purge block will be smaller related to the printed count
Very true
great video, where is it possible to download canvas for the palette 3 pro? thank you
Joel! I would have come given you a High Five if I knew you were in Toronto! I'm so sad now
I’ll be back I’m sure!
@@3DPrintingNerd I look forward to this day and will be ready with your high five.
I hope you enjoyed Canada, eh! Looks like you did all the touristy things. CN Tower glass, ate some poutine and apparently too much hot sauce.
14:00, that's huge purge block. Nice model btw.
I'd PAY to have this software support MIXING extruder printers. The idea of having a full colour range (though no brightness/darkness) off 3 filaments sounds remarkable.

Very cool video, also where can I get that awesome rick and morty and Dr. Who t-shirt?
Shoot, I don’t know! My wife got it on the Internet!
so this only works with the palette. can you EXPORT the stl out again as multi part stl. ie can i use this to make my models multi color without all the hassles with meshmixer. ? as i would use the software all the time if it would allow us to export as multi part. also not sure if i like the idea of users making my models multi color and share my files with the community. another gray area.
11:35 Correction, "-and that's why we recommend the CR-10 MAX, just print bigger and you feel better about the transition block." :D
20:56 Waterworld? lol
How's the beautiful city of Toronto, Cananada treating you, Joel? 😂
This is amazing! So question this brings to mind is if you have a model licensed for "no remixing," would painting it be considered a remix, or just part of the "printing process?"
It doesn't change the model, only changes the toolpath for printing it, so I believe it would be part of printing process.
But have to see what the creators and lawyers think I guess.
That’s an interesting question. The model itself isn’t changed at all - there is meta data associated with it telling Palette toolpaths for polygons. So, this is just like printing a model with a gradient or random set of colors - no change to the STL, just in the colors used to make it.
Of course that’s only MY take.
The Bambu A1 mini has pretty much sunk the Palette I would think.
is it an obligation to make tower even if we use the palette? if yes, is it possible to put the tower inside the piece we print?
He talked a lot about that special 'only outer layer processing and whatever' thing, but I didn't understand mucht of it.. Is there another explanation of whats going on somewhere?
Btw. Regarding the pallette: I wonder if there's something like an color dithering mode, meaning that the palette would have to splice very short pieces of different colors to each other, for giving a mixed color as a result. So you could print in nearly unlimited color variations, with seemles color transitions, based on primary colors, like cyan, magenta, yellow and white.
And: What about the idea of using the infill as transition body, for reducing the needed transition block size? PS: OK, after watching teh video further, the last question is already answered :)
I’ll try to get to it in a future video. Also check the Mosaic RUclips channel - they have some new videos on it.
cant they dump the fiament in the infill isntead a block ?
I love what they are doing. It's incredible, but the price of the Pallete is hard to justify as a small business, especially when I can buy a new printer for the same price.
Very interesting. When is that Creator 3 review coming?
why not use the infill as a purge tower or to make the purge tower smaller?
oh wow... literally seconds later he says that in the video xD
Can you do color gradients with Mosaic Palette 2?
The only problem with multi colors is trying to push all those colors through one nozzle. A printer needs to be designed with multiple nozzles with a different color in each one. Software could easily know the offset each nozzle has from the "0,0,0" printing point of contact, and then adjust by that much when colors change and the new nozzle is in effect.
Hey Joel can you do a comparison between the pallet 2 and the prusa mmu.
Thanks!
I can not find the fix on my canvas program am i missing something?
I would really like to see a more detailed review of the palette. I have the MMU2 and it's pretty awful and slow
Can be used in Creality Ender 3 ?
Frankly, I am surprised you are still monetized with all the colorful language in this video.
1:04 "Cananada" 😂😂😂 thats awesome i wonder if he knows. Or maybe was on purpose🤔
Oh 100% on purpose :)
