www.revzilla.c...
Cardo introduces their next-generation Bluetooth communication system, available in two styles. The PackTalk BOLD and PackTalk Slim provide two styles for an option for virtually every helmet out there. Up to 15 riders can join the self-healing mesh network, which reaches your ears via Cardo’s finest speakers yet. Join and leave at your leisure without reconnect frustrations. Cardo’s fully waterproof setup weathers any storm you’re charging into. Natural Voice Operation introduces the all-new “Hey, Cardo” function, which allows you to access your smartphone’s functionality without touching a button. Available in single or duo packs, there’s a Cardo for every journey.

Lol so true
Just did it and its amazing
Yup 😂
My group and I absolutely LOVE our new Packtalk Bold's. Coming from the 20S and 30K world, it was like going from black and white TV to color TV. Cardo FTW!!
T Grant is there a big difference in the sound quality? Iv used the 20s and smh10 and I have listened to a friends 30s but all of those have no bass what so ever. I didn’t know if these might be any better ?
I have Sena 50R and it sucks, drains battery after 2 hours and sound quality is pretty bad, waisted money on that junk !!! Buying Cardo tomorrow
I just enjoyed a informal get-together with the V.P. of the Cardo corporation who was demonstrating the Packtalk Bold and Packtalk Slim for a group of riders at a local shop. Simply amazing. Crystal clear, always on (no need to "activate" it when you want to talk), and it recognizes voice commands. Also, the mesh technology is amazing. The Packtalk Bold is my choice with the extended range over the Slim. Besides that, they have the same functionality across the board. Once you set it up, there are no buttons to push. You just give it voice commands. Awesome piece of tech.
So Bold is better than Slim?
Thomas R. Smith The Bold has its little flip up antenna which, I believe, may give a little more distance, but they are essentially the same.
Thomas R. Smith the Slim will fit inside the little slots of the helmets designed to hold them, so it’s a little more contoured and sleek.
Hey guys. Great video as always. I would really love to hear someone talk about speaker/sound quality in reviews like these. I'm having a hard time finding anyone anywhere that talks about the actual speaker quality, volume ability, range of sound. Some of these units out here (like the "other brand" in my current helmet) might have lots of UI bells and whistles, but the speakers sound like my grandpa's old school am radio.
Just picked up the BOLD. It's fantastic so far.
Why did you pick the Bold over the Slim? And what helmet are you using it on?
Thomas R. Smith would like a response as well
One thing you should mention is the unit-to-unit range difference between Cardo Slim and Bold. Slim's range is 1.2km, Bold's is 1.6km. In real life, Bold would be closer to 1km (maybe a bit less) so Slim would be somewhere around 750m. You can check this info by scrolling down on the products page of the Cardo website.
Wow, can't believe how Sena fell behind technology wise. That's the thing with tech, if you're not innovating you fall behind and lose customer base.
I love my Packtalk Slim JBL. The app makes it so easy to use without hitting the wrong button on the headset.
Unfortunately it is still a Cardo with absolutely ZERO service or backup in much of the world outside the US of A (Australia in our case, but we use them for travelling overseas). We had three units fail -- G9X and SHO-1s. Prepared to pay for repairs but Cardo refused point blank to assist. We are now using Senas.
Good luck with that! Sena has the absolute worst service of any product manufactured including fishing hooks!! I know, I've been there with Sena!!!!
Just bought a bold duo and added a spare audio kit. This way I can use them for pillion and with my two helmets.
Can someone stop feeding this guy caffeine please? Thank you.
that quick talk and smile at the end is golden
I bought the Bold Black for my Shoei Neotec II. It installed with no problems using the supplied clamp mount.
Just installed the slim. Great stuff, on an Arai XD4...can't wait to use while riding with others. Not really caring about the music but the intercom and phone features will be nice.
Please please please do an installation video for the backtalk slim. Ideally with a shark spartan helmet!
set video speed to 2 for hella fun
This is hilarious!!!
Makes me think of the mexican guy from ant man
Louis or something
I've got three pack talk Slims and two of them have since been rendered useless as the female connector port for the charging cord have come apart in two of those communicators, I have since purchased two-pack talk bolds and they seem to be doing well so far
Nice video! I sold my Sena 10S and ordered the Cardo Bold. Excited to get the new one on my helmet!
Would one be able to use this on a bicycle helmet (even would consider
tie wraps/zip ties to keep the main unit attached. Just cannot figure
out how to set the speakers? Would the longer mike be usable as well??
Is the separation of the slim advantageous for a bicycle install? (assuming its water/sweat proof - the internal part)
Picked up the Cardo Packtalk Slim and it's pretty sweet, however I've had nothing but issues with the voice recognition. I've got an Australian accent but honestly I dont think that's the case, sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt, I don't know. Tried rewiring it, reposition the speaker, has anyone had issues with it?
I have a tongue injury and i have difficulty at times. What helps me is to speak softly
If 4 different people have 4 different Bluetooth communicators, can they still communicate to each other or does everyone have to have the same communicator to join the same network?
Hi,
do you know if the SLIM version fits on a SCHUBERTH R2?
The helmet has a rigid plastic profile on the lower rear side and it is shaped so that it would be impossible to insert the retaining clip of the battery (I guess).
I know that the helmet is pre-wired for the SCHUBERTH/Sena SC1, but after years I still read reviews about the poor performance/ergonomics of the product compared to standalone options at that price range. I prefer to have something durable, reliable and usable. Still, I was looking for something more streamlined than the common design of the bluetooth headsets. I am mostly concerned about the aerodynamic induced noise that the installed device may create, as I use to drive at 130+ km/hr.
I appreciate comments/suggestions, as I never had a BT headset.
Hi, good review, although I have two questions. first regarding the mesh communication, can the mesh network be a mix of PackTalk and Sena 3K? Second, can the Packtalk Slim be used in different helmets, meaning is there an easy way of moving the unit from helmet to helmet? Many thanks
No, you cannot mix Sena's and Cardo's mesh networks, as they each use their own proprietary protocols. Additionally, while the PackTalk Slim can be uninstalled and reinstalled in another helmet, it is time-consuming and not convenient. The BOLD is the better option for that, as you can purchase additional microphone/speaker mount kits to put on extra helmets. That way, you just move the controller from helmet to helmet. -DrewZilla
*bit.ly/PackTalkBOLD
Will the battery for the slim rub on your neck if you’re leaning forward on a sport bike?
In most cases it shouldn't, but we cannot guarantee it. -DrewZilla
Dont have to take your hands off the wheel? But my bike doesnt have a wheel
Revzilla vids are great, but please, Anthony, slow down a bit!
Hey Brad Keep up!!!!! :)
I has a packtalk v1 and the antenna is easy to break . Overalls is very great Bluetooth headset
Hi, Great review, You help me a lot to decide what to go for, but I know that you have received thousands of questions about the Slim´s fitment on every kind of helmets, and I apologize in advance for that, but I have the same question, Do you think that the Bold Slim could be feasible to fit in a Biltwell Gringo "S" ? Thanks man, I appreciate your help and your attention. Greetings from Mexico City.
While it has not been officially tested, it should fit the Gringo S. -DrewZilla
Hey do you know if the slim will fit on an Arai Defiant X. There is that central vent in the back of the helmet that I’m wondering if it could stack on top?
Hey, dskjadhqyg revzilla WATCH DECIDE AN RIDE.
Thanks for the review! Is there a way to remove the Packtalk Slim from the helmet like with the Bolt's clip mount? So that it wont get stolen if I leave the helmet with my bike...
No, it cannot be quickly removed or reinstalled unfortunately. -DrewZilla
They will need to steal your whole helmet!
Can I talk to Sena riders with the superior Packtalk slim? RevNine really makes the Sena units sound like a garbage fire so they’re not even an option at this point.
Yes, you can talk to Sena riders. -DrewZilla
RevZilla Nice. 👍
Yep!
Does the slim fit into the Icon Airflite?
It seems iffy considering the way the padding situation around the neck for the Airflite (and also Airframe/Armada)
And if it fits, I wonder if it will hit the back of your neck...
No, it does not fit the Airflite. The big notch in the back of the Airflite precludes the Slim from being mounted. -DrewZilla
Do you think the slim would fit on the shoei RF-1200?
Yes, the Slim fits the RF-1200. -DrewZilla
*bit.ly/PackTalk_Slim
Any information if the Slim will fit a SCHUBERTH C4? Not the C4 Pro because I did not like Comms system they made for that one. Thanks
Both the C4 and C4 Pro can only fit the Schuberth SC1. -DrewZilla
Do you plan a video on how to install the Packtalk Slim? I'm not even sure which clip goes with the communicator and which goes with the battery pack. And I don't see how the communicator mates to its clip. The instructions do not show very good pictures of how to do this.
We probably won't have an install video. The battery uses one of the forked/two-pronged clamps (whichever fits your helmet best), while the controller uses the single-tab clamp. -DrewZilla
Ah, okay, thank you. Does the controller detach from the single-tab clamp? If so, how? It came already attached to it and it's plastic so I don't want to break it.
Can you record the audio via Bluetooth on an Android Device?
How crisp is the sound with the boom?
If your Android device is able to record via a Bluetooth input, then this should work. However, we haven't been able to confirm that. Otherwise, though, the audio with the boom is pretty crisp considering you're riding a motorcycle. -DrewZilla
@@RevZilla Thank you for the reply!
With all the info I gathered, I do not think I will be able to record to an Android device with the current firmware. I will use another setup to record my voice and will probably buy the Packtalk in the future, for its cool features.
Have an HJC RPHA 70 ST, was eyeing the Cardo SMARTH. Looks like the Packtalk Slim is the better option now?
Correct, the PackTalk Slim is the updated version of the SMARTH. -DrewZilla
Forgetting about the bulk of one against the other which Do you think is the best ??
I find the PackTalk BOLD easier to mount and easier to use. But functionally they offer the same features. -DrewZilla
Would any 1 trade off from seña smhr10 for the packtalk slim? All I’ve ever used was seña love how it works but have also had multiple problems speakers blowing, main unit stop working an they still have not came out with a newer smhr10 honest opinion guys should I change
I would definitely consider the PackTalk Slim if you have a compatible helmet. The audio is a bit better than the older SMH10R. -DrewZilla

Can you tell us about the buttons? I mean, my G9-X units (6 of them) had the on/off cover sliced after some use. I cannot use them if it's going to rain. I had 4 units damaged by rain drops falling unexpectedly on cloudy days.
These buttons are more durable than on the G9X units. -DrewZilla
I am wondering how to charge the slim since it unlike other type of unit can be taken off. Should we always charge with the helmet ?
There's a USB port on the device, so it's easiest to charge with the device still installed in the helmet. If you want a controller that's quick to remove and charge off the helmet, then go with the PackTalk BOLD version. -DrewZilla

Was anyone able to install the Cardo Packtalk Slim communicator on the HJC F70 helmet ?
What about this special Sena compartment at the rear of the helmet, can Cardo somehow fit over/in it?
The helmet is not listed on the Cardo site under helmets comparability, but I wonder if anyone in the real world did it...
Ques, previous vers also had voice command, no?
And as far as slim and previous HJC only, why unit is attached to part of helmet that usually makes contact w/surface when you take helmet off and put it down?
Yes, the previous version of the PackTalk had simpler, more limited voice command. As for the Slim design, that decision was to make the controller low profile and tucked into the helmet. It's true it rests when the helmet is set down, but that shouldn't affect it with normal use. One shouldn't be slamming a helmet down anyway. -DrewZilla

Thank you for the review. Got most of what he said but he could slow down just a bit so we can understand everything he says.
Hey, on an aside, what does two beeps every 15 seconds indicate when using the Smartpack/Packtalk systems? Low Battery?
Low battery is indicated by 1 or 2 red LED flashes every 3 seconds. I believe the beeps every 15 seconds indicate the communicator is trying to find and reconnect to another unit. -DrewZilla
Good review :).....wanted to see what's the hubbub with this one.
We use GSM comms.
Is the unit compatible with a Shoei Neotec 2? Currently using Sena 20S Evo which is disappointing to say the least 😥
The BOLD can be mounted on the Neotec 2, but the Slim cannot be mounted. -DrewZilla
*www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/cardo-packtalk-bold-jbl-headset
I can unclip and charge the BOLD at my desk. How do you charge the Slim?
You have to take your helmet with you and plug the USB charging cable into the controller while still attached to the helmet. -DrewZilla
@@RevZilla that's a reason not to get the slim!
Though it does come with a bike charger so u can charge it on the bike like I do on my street glide ;) or like i had on my kawaii concours 14.
if u dont have one built into ur bike, it's easy to install on
All bike charge of some kind of 12v charger.
Which Arai helmet is the slim mounted in? I have the Quantum-X, and was wondering if the slim's battery pack would fit because of the vents at the bottom of the neck roll?
The Slim is mounted on a Signet-X, but that's just a Quantum-X with an elongated shell. The Slim will install and look the same on a Quantum-X. The battery does fit in the back, but the rear neckroll vent makes the battery sit slightly away from the helmet. -DrewZilla
@@RevZilla Ugh. I called and one of your guys told me it wouldn't fit!
I'm a Sena 10U user and i want to upgrade. It always worked flawlessly but the main unit broke and now i have to use it with tape.
I was thinking about the Sena 30k (one feature that no one talks but i really would like to have is the Ambient Mode) but i can't understand why Sena didn't make it waterproof, and that clamp seems really too big!
As for the reviews across the Internet, i think that now they don't reflect anymore the true experience of the 30K after the firmware updates.
I'm a little more keen to the Packtalk Bold or the Slim but honestly, i'm a little scared that i regret for some reason, and due to what i've read from people saying that outside of US, there's no support (I'm from Portugal), since this kind of stuff are not properly cheap.
We can't speak for international support, unfortunately, so you do have to rely on other feedback. Personally, I like that the PackTalk is waterproof and a bit more robust. -DrewZilla
@@RevZilla Thanks for your help, again :)
You're welcome!
Thinking about using one of these on my Shoei Neotec (first Gen). Which would you recommend the Bold or the Slim?
The Slim can fit the Neotec if you like the lower profile, but both are good options. -DrewZilla
Will the slim fit fine on my Simpson mod bandit?
What about icon pro helmet
Does the slim cardo fit on .!?
No, with the cutout at the rear of the helmet, the Slim's battery cannot be mounted on the Airframe Pro. -DrewZilla
How is the sound quality for music with bass in it? Do these sound tinny or are they an improvement over the last pack talk version in that department as well? Also, can I pair this with 2 other riders who have the freedom 4 headsets from Cardo?
Jeff Dyck Hey Jeff. I just upgraded to the bold from the packtalk. Using the same hardware from the packtalk ( too lazy to swap out the speakers) it's noticeably louder.
The best sound quality/bass out there right now. You can pair to the Freecom 4 headsets/any other BT headsets, but you would be bumping the Packtalk Bold/Slim back to bluetooth intercom mode to pair. I would recommend the whole group moving to a Cardo DMC (Mesh) unit to utilize the self-healing, never have to pair again, network.
try adjust the speaker inside the helmet, give it the best position for your ear, the bass is enough, punchy
if you have a phone with a good audio chip ,it should be enough, or try to tweak it using 3rd party app like PowerAmp, the new app, Cardo Connect still no good
If you have a pack talk, and other riders in your group have a Sena, can you connect with them and talk? And does mesh work if they have a sena w/o mesh
Each PackTalk unit can have a single non-Cardo connection, so if you had a majority of the group with PackTalks, you could have a few Senas connected as well. However, the Sena-Cardo connections have a much shorter range. If the majority of communicators are Sena, you can only have two non-Sena communicators connected. This is due to the fact that the Senas use daisy chain connections (except the mesh 30K, which really cannot use mesh with non-Sena comms anyway), so the Cardos are at the beginning and the end of the chain of communicators. Hope this helps! -DrewZilla
Is the slim waterproof? Can't find anywhere that says so. Deciding factor between getting the slim or the bold
As listed on our product page, the Slim is _IP67 Waterproof and Dustproof._ So both the Slim and the Bold are IP67. -DrewZilla

Is the Cardo Packtalk Bold & the Cardo Scala Rider Packtalk the same product?
No, the PackTalk BOLD is the updated version of the PackTalk (though they look the same on the outside). The BOLD added a new hardware chipset for increased signal processing and added voice recognition with "Hey Cardo", "Hey Siri", and "OK Google" support. The current JBL version adds high-quality JBL speakers. -DrewZilla

does cardo work with other brand intercoms?
thank you for the review. im interested to buy the packtalk slim. will it fit into my Icon Airframe Pro helmet ?
Due to the big notch at the back of the Airframe Pro, you cannot mount the PackTalk Slim's battery (and it cannot be relocated). You can mount the PackTalk/BOLD though. -DrewZilla
@@RevZilla thank you dear boy for the response. i was worried that would be the case. i guess ill start looking towards the airflite instead !
Apologies, but the Airflite also has the neck notch, so it is also incompatible with the PackTalk Slim. -DrewZilla
Hey Revzilla, how does the Cardo work for snowmobiling? I just bought a new skidoo oxygen helemt and looking at new communicators, not happy with the collett system i currently have
The Cardo is actually a great option for snowmobiling, as it's IP67 water- and dust-proof. -DrewZilla
@@RevZilla how does the car do units compare to uclear, I know that there is a new one from uclear coming out called the motion 6
Both Cardo and UCLEAR are pretty robust. We haven't used the upcoming Motion 6, yet, so we cannot compare it yet. -DrewZilla
I do dual-vlogs with my husband and use the Sena 20S with the Sena bluetooth Audio Pack for audio on our vlogs. Will the Cardo pair with the Audio Pack? Thanks.
Yes, the Cardo will pair to the Sena Audio Pack, but it won't have the higher audio quality that the 20S gets with the Audio Pack. -DrewZilla
RevZilla Thanks so much for the response and answering my question. I don’t know if I would label the 20s and audiopack high quality as I get a fair amount of crackle in the audio when using the audiopack.
Hows the speaker quality with a loud un baffled exhaust? My mt09 is very loud
If you wear earplugs to eliminate the droning noise, you will still have to turn the volume down on the Cardo from time to time. I use this same unit for 2+ a day on the highway w/ an unbaffled Street Triple Rx without issue. -Pat
Hey guys, does the slim fit on the arai defiant x? Being that it has the vents at the back. Looking at your 2018 Bluetooth video, will you say this takes #1 spot now? And lastly, will these connect to a GoPro?
To start, these do not connect to a GoPro. Additionally, the rear vents in the neck roll do get in the way of the PackTalk Slim, so I do not recommend it for the Defiant-X. Instead, I would stick with the PackTalk Bold. Further, in my personal opinion, the PackTalk Bold/Slim are now the best Bluetooth options. -DrewZilla
Hello DrewZilla - I have an Arai Signet-X, and I can't help but notice that the helmet in the video with the Slim installed is a Signet-X. It has neck roll vents just like the Defiant, I think all the Arai full face helmets have this feature. I was concerned about the vents getting in the way of the Slim till I saw it installed on the Signet in the video and heard Anthony mention "Arai" in the list of non-HJC helmets you can use. So... are you sure the vents are an issue for the Slim? The Bold is just so darn big... And thanks guys for the vids and the replies on all these comments.
This is pretty unsetting to see. I specifically asked Revzilla if the Slim fit on the Defiant X and they said yes. Now I find it blocks the rear vents??!! I assume you are ready to exchange it now ofr the other unit?
Is the Slim waterproof? And does the slim also have sticky mounts?
Yes, the Slim is IP67 waterproof and dustproof, but it does not have sticky mounts. It has the molded clips/tabs that slide up inside the shell as shown in the video. -DrewZilla

Does the packtalk bold and slim fit to a schuberth C3 PRO helmet?
You could make the Packtalk Bold (not Slim) fit if you wanted to, as it is a universal system made for any helmet out there. Can the packtalk slim fit into a Shoei Neotec 11 instead of the Sena SRL?

Helpful video! Will the Slim fit an LS2 Vector helmet?
Based on the helmet shape, it looks like the Slim should fit. However, Cardo has not officially listed it as compatible. -DrewZilla
Soooo...do I buy one of these or the Freecom 4+? I'm confused.
It really depends how you ride in a group and how large that group is. If you only ever ride in a group of 4 or fewer (including you), then the Freecom 4+ would be a good option. If you ride in groups of up to 15 and want the flexibility to change rider order on the road, then the PackTalk is the way to go (keeping in mind that the majority of riders would need to have a PackTalk). -DrewZilla

I have a pack talk bold and let a friend fuck with it to try to connect while on a ride. I’m not sure what Mr smart guy did but my unit is stuck in DMC intercom mode and I can barely hear music because I’m stuck in intercom mode. I’ve tried turning of music and power down the unit like I’ve seen in some videos. I’ve returned to factory settings. Deleted the device, deleted the app. Reinstalled everything. Push all the buttons etc etc. any suggestions before i take a hammer to this thing?
Contacting Cardo might be a good start. If the unit was returned to a factory reset then it may have to do with one of the physical connections rather than a tech-issue.
Will these systems work with my in ear monitors? Is there an adapter
The PackTalk Slim cannot, but the PackTalk BOLD uses a standard 3.5mm stereo jack to connect the speakers, so you can easily use your monitors. -DrewZilla

The Freecom 4 can support 4 users with a 0.75 mile range (a little more than 1km). The PackTalk Slim can support up to 15 users with a unit-to-unit range of 1 mile (1.6km). The Freecom 4 uses Cardo's standard Bluetooth intercom, whereas the PackTalk Slim uses Cardo's Dynamic Mesh Connection intercom. Otherwise, they offer similar features. I wasn't able to find anybody else who had installed it on that helmet either just yet. That doesn't mean that it won't fit, but we have no way of confirming for you at the moment unfortunately. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our Gear Geeks in customer service! - Pat
RevZilla thanks for the reply it should be arriving Wednesday. I’m sure I’ll find a way lol
What about the ls2 rapidbolt? What cardo packtalk is fitted?
The PackTalk Slim is not specifically compatible with that helmet, but that's just because Cardo has not tested it. However, the regular PackTalk should fit. -DrewZilla
with the cardo can I talk to people with sena units like the smh10 or smh10r?
Yes, but you can only connect to one Sena unit. That one Sena unit would then be paired to the other Sena units. -DrewZilla
Hi. Will the slim fit the neotec II. I like the helmet, but Not the srl system for the helmet.
Yes, you can get the Slim to fit the Neotec II. -DrewZilla
When it is installed in the Neotec 2 does the battery fit in the hidden spot on the helmet?
Can anyone help me JUST pair 2 units together and not have a phone involved.....
Basically my use will be strictly training on the track... having a “couch” behind me telling me I’m going to slow in corners or hit the throttle harder out of corners lol
Yep, no phone is needed. Hold the top intercom button (the one with the three arcs) of each communicator for 5 seconds. Once both units are flashing, then press the intercom button again on ONLY ONE of the communicators. Then both are paired. -DrewZilla

Be careful something no one in any of the reviews will mention is that these do not even come with a charger
They 100% do come with a charging cable in the box, which is a standard Micro-USB cable. If you double check that your's did not come with it, let us know and we can have one sourced for you. Please feel free to reach out to our Gear Geeks at cs@revzilla.com or 877.792.9455 if you need that done. Ride safe, -Pat
@@RevZilla if you had read what I said I said it does not come with a charger does come with a charging cord but nothing to plug that cord into hence the word charger.
Drew your video was done 2 years ago. Has there been improvements to the Cardo slim since your video was done 2 years ago? Slim or Bold, that is the question.
Yes, the PackTalk Slim now ships with improved speakers by JBL, but otherwise, the controller and features are the same. The BOLD also now comes with JBL speakers, but again, the main features of the BOLD are still the same. -DrewZilla

Hi great review can it connect with friends I'm ridding with using a sena unit ?
Yes, you would connect to one of the Cardo units using the Cardo Gateway feature of the Cardo. -DrewZilla
Is this compatible with moto helmets too? We ride street and dirt
The PackTalk BOLD is compatible with more street and dirt helmets. The Slim is limited in its compatibility. -DrewZilla
@@RevZilla my wife and I both use Fox Vh1 and Vh2 moto helmets. Please advise
Does the slim have universal connectivity capability?
Yes, it allows universal intercom pairing. -DrewZilla
