  • Cross brand pairing = BIG source of confusion for everyone. Made this to help out on that....regardless what brand you own just keep this in mind! If it has "universal intercom", this is how it's doing it.

    Thanks for the explanation. All the manuals make it seem like you put both devices into universal pairing, nowhere does it mention that one has to connect like it would a phone... I have a sena and my friend has a cardo, we struggled to figured it out but this video solved it. One thing though I noticed is that it only works when the sena goes into universal pairing mode and the cardo until is connected via phone pairing, they will connect if the cardo does universal pairing and the sena connects via phone mode but neither of us can hear or talk to each other. Just have to make sure the sena is the one in universal pairing. Now to try and see if I can add my other friend with a senna to the group at the same time... Manual says you can but it is not very clear.

    I have a PackTalk and all my friends have Sena. I know how to pair them (I'm usually the one in Universal Pairing Mode because around these parts Sena users don't know how to operate their device, and I know how to set a Sena to phone pairing mode). The problem is, once paired, the mic stays hot like you are in a phone call, and doesn't drop unless I disconnect the "call". But then I have to push the button again to open the channel again. No too handy. This hot mic issue may be caused by wind noise or engine noise causing the sena mic to vox open, I'm not sure. Do you have any idea what the problem is and if it's fixable?

    This is crazy ..maybe they have something better for the new systems but I have these older ones. 2 sena expand 2.0 sena10 and packtalk bold. After some hours and frustration.... I've been able to get them all working 2 times but it was a miracle both times. Thanks for this video. I believe I will delete all pairings and connect all the sena via intercom..then add the packtalk via its Bluetooth. 🤞 . High concern with messing it all up again but I will report back.

      Nice! As for connecting to the GoPro, the best wireless solution I've seen so far is this one: ruclips.net/video/NOEYYgjeTDg/видео.html - haven't tried personally but it definitely seems like the way to go! None of the comms will pair directly to a GoPro unfortunately. You can always go direct wire connection, but I think the app method in the video is most promising. Hope that helps.

    Hi! Thanks for this. Learned so much. I have a question though. If my packtalk connects to sena via sena's universal pairing (meaning I'm on mobile pairing) how do i connect to that? Is the connection can only be initialized by the one whos in universal pairing mode? Thanks in advance.

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  3 года назад +1

      In this arrangement, you can initiate the intercom by pressing the "Mobile" button on your packtalk. Normally you use this button to pull up Siri or Google on your phone, but because the Sena is "hacking" into this port for the cross-brand pairing, when you click this button, it will (should) open the intercom session. Hope that makes sense and helps out!

    AWESOME Video!!! I wish we would have watched it first before banging our heads against the wall trying to figure it out. I have (2) questions, My Cardo (Universal intercom pairing mode) is paired to a Sena(Phone pairing mode) as explained in your video. But (1) the Sena can't use it's intercom feature. It can only call me just like they would call for a pizza. Is that right? Hence the "Phone pairing mode". And (2) Even though we are connected. When my Cardo intercom connects to talk to the Sena, the call drops within seconds of the connect. Can this be fixed?

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  3 года назад +1

      Thanks!! (1) That's correct. When paired as you described, the Sena "thinks" it's paired to an actual phone, hence they would have to tap the mobile button in the back to start/end intercom with you. If it was paired the opposite way - Sena (universal pairing mode) to Cardo (mobile phone pairing mode) - then it would be the other way around, the Sena would use the Intercom wheel to activate/deactivate intercom, and the Cardo would have to tap the Mobile button to start/end an intercom session. (2) I've had this happen as well. Try doing a master reset on the Sena and attempt again. No idea why, but most of the time that works out the issue. Hope that all makes sense and helps out a bit!

    Which one would you purchase for personal use if you prefer listening to your music and answering calls? The Packtalk Bold or 20S or 20S evo

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  4 года назад

      Both models will do that just fine (in fact MOST models out there would handle that fine), but, if comparing the Packtalk Bold to a 20s/20s Evo (the two 20s models are literally the same, just a different antenna and USB port cover), the JBL sound and the Natural Voice command ability give Packtalk Bold a pretty darn solid plus. Hope that helps and best of luck!

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  4 года назад +1

      1. Right on, thank you! 2. Theoretically, and if neither of you have paired to someone/something else that would have taken that same "pairing slot', then you would already be paired and set to go next time you see each other. However, because Universal Pairing from any brand will rob the mobile phone pairing slot of one of the headsets, most people will end up pairing their Actual mobile phone back to their headset after the ride, in which case blowing out the pairing to you and you'll have to use this same pairing process next time you meetup. Hope that makes sense.

    Do you have to have at least two Packtalks to use DMC bridge, or can I be in DMC mode (by myself) and bridge to a non-Cardo intercom?

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  5 лет назад

      Yes, you can use DMC Bridge when it's just you (Packtalk) and another Bluetooth-only headset to establish intercom connection. Or, you can just use your Packtalk in Bluetooth Intercom Mode for that ride...same difference. DMC-Bridge shines though when there's more than one Packtalk, because it lets the Packtalk folks stay in DMC Intercom Mode (waaaaay better) instead of everyone having to hop over/down to Bluetooth Intercom Mode to connect with each other.
      If it's just you and a non-Cardo headset, the feature you're looking for is Cardo Gateway/Universal Pairing. The DMC-Bridge feature is something different (that's what brings a Bluetooth headset into a DMC mesh group for intercom). Hope that helps a bit!

    This is awesome. Question. I have a Packtalk Slim and one other rider has a Bold. The remaining guys (3 of them) have Sena 20s. I still have my old 20s and its functional. Can I set my old 20s as the "second mobile phone" and use the Cardo Universal and DMC gateway to pair with it? The goal is to make sure the 20s can communicate with the Sena group while using the second mobile phone pairing slot. The mobile phone pairing distance limitation won't be problem since my old 20s will likely sit somewhere on my bike. Does anyone know if this will work?

    • @senatechnologies
      @senatechnologies 4 года назад

      Hi Mike. Yes this will work. You can pair each of the 3 20S's (A, B and C) to each other using the standard Bluetooth Intercom pairing and then use Universal Intercom Pairing on A to pair to one of the Packtalks and Universal Intercom Pairing on C to pair to the other Packtalk.

    So, if the Sena is connected to the packtalk as a phone, then does that mean that the Sena can not be connected to their own phone at the same time. I am thinking that the Sena owner would have to disconnect their phone before this is tried. by the way, I love your videos...

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  5 лет назад

      Thanks! Yes for the most part you nailed it. However, if the Sena you are "hacking into" (universally pairing with) has the ability to pair with 2 mobile phones, then that person (the sena user) COULD pair to their actual phone as well. Example: "Mobile phone pairing 1" would be taken by your Packtalk, and "Mobile phone pairing 2" would be his ACTUAL phone. Your Packtalk will be treating the relationship with the Sena as a true intercom connection, and the Sena would be treating the relationship as a "mobile phone" connection. Hope that makes sense and answers the question!

    Hi sir. In my understanding, if you have 5 cardo and 5 other non cardo, they can still talk simultaneously together to each other, right?
    For this to work, we need each of the cardo to connect to each of non cardo via BT mode, bring those non cardo into the table and simultaneous talking will be obtained. Is that correct?
    We came from Cardo but sold it to buy a cheaper intercom. Our other friends still use cardo and we wanted to know if we can still talk simultaneously even if we use a non cardo device.

      Thanks!! Unfortunately, anytime you're pairing one brand to a different brand, the intercom range REALLY takes a hit. The only real way to solve the range-issue when dealing with different brands is to call each other through your phones...but then of course you need to be within service range. You'll only be directly paired to one of them (using the method above) but it will basically bring you into their exiting conversation. Keep in mind, if some of them start switching to Packtalk, that will change everything. Then you would have the Packtalks grouped together in Mesh (way better than Bluetooth for group comms) and bring the remaining Senas into the coversation. Hope that helps and good luck!

    My Cordo Freecom 2+ connected to the Sena 20S via phone bluetooth connection as you described. If I push the intercom button on the Freecom 2+ it opens a intercom connection with the Sena. BUT how do you initiate an intercom call from the Sena ? Pushing the phone button or the intercom button does nothing.

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  4 года назад

      Ok cool, if you've got the two of them connected and talking that means you paired them up right (good job). In your case, to open up the intercom from the Sena you must use the phone button (don't even bother with the sena's intercom button, won't happen)...BUT, as you said, that's not working. I hate to say this but do a Master Reset on the Sena 20s, pair them up again the exact same way you did the first time, and that should fix it (you should then be able to initiate the intercom from the sena as well by pushing the sena's phone button once). Hope that helps!

    When you pair to another brand using phone pairing, does that headset still get music and GPS? Basically we need to be able to talk to easy other AND enjoy music and GPS along with rider/passenger intercom.

    • @MotoGeekFreak

      Of the two headsets, the one that paired using its "Mobile Phone Pairing" slot will be pretty limited. It basically "thinks" it's paired to a phone but it's not, it's paired to the other helmet. However, if that comm can pair with 2 mobile phones, then it is possible to play music from the second phone pairing (the actual phone) when not talking over the intercom.

    I'm trying to connect a Sena SMH10 in conference mode to 2x Interphone Tour units. Is it possible to get connection in true conference mode in this way? We've managed to connect the Sena to one of the Interphone units but it won't connect to both for some reason. But the 'middle man' Interphone unit can connect to both. but has to chat to us separately!

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  5 лет назад

      The Sena won’t be able to connect to both Interphone Tour unit’s using Universal Intercom- only to one of them. Since there are 2 Interphones and 1 Sena in your case, you would want to pair the 2 Interphone’s together in their native pairing, then have 1 of the Interphone units use Universal Pairing to pair with the Sena (using mobile phone Pairing on the Sena unit). Assuming the Interphone Tour can conference Intercom when paired to another Interphone and a Universally Paired Intercom, and you pair them like this, that would give you 3-way conference. If it does NOT have that ability then you will have to toggle between the 2 riders unfortunately! Hope that helps!

      As far as I understood, if you have 2 senas and 1 pack talk it goes like this.
      The 2 senas connect via normal intercom and then, one of the senas additionally activates universal intercom and you have to activate your "mobile phone connection" and slide into the mobile phone slot of the sena. I don't know if you're able to use your phone in that configuration, haven't tested it yet.

      Brandon Smith Hmmm. Sounds like you’re doing it perfectly correct too. The only thing I can think: with the Sena 20s specifically (not other models), I’ve sometimes had to do the “Master Reset” on the 20s in order to make it pair. No idea why. But, when it won’t pair, I do the reset on the 20s by using a pin in the small whole on the back side (that’s how you do the reset on that model), then when I try again, it works! Again, no idea why, but worth a shot. You don’t need to do anything to the Packtalk....it’s a 20s thing. Hope that helps!!

    I’ve done a lot of experimenting with cross pairing brands. I’ve concluded that Bluetooth it’s just a crappy technology and produces static every time it’s used. I do not recommend cross pairing brands only mesh between the same brands. What’s further hindering is a phone connection pairing is only meant to go between the phone and the headset which is usually around 2 feet away from each other. Now you’ve taken that headset and put it on another rider a quarter-mile away and for sure is going to get static and drop out. When you introduce a Bluetooth headset into a clean connection mesh system, you cause static for everybody. Not cool. Cross pairing is a waste of time just get the same brand units and mash them together

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  3 года назад

      Hi there. Since the packtalk slim and freecom 1+ are both Cardo headsets, you don't want to be using "cardo gateway" pairing mode (that's only for when pairing to a NON-cardo headset). SO, on both units, press and hold the "Intercom" button until you see the LED start flashing red. This will put both of them in the correct pairing mode. Once the LED goes solid red, then returns to a normal/slow blue flash, the units are paired together for intercom. Good luck and hope that helps!

    Hello and thanks for this.
    I am in a group of packtalk owners. My friend and his wife have a pair of Scala rider Q1's which have only one intercom channel each (I think). Does this mean we can't "Bridge" them in and have to use "gateway" on one of each of their mobile phone channels instead? Thanks.

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  4 года назад

      I think the best/most reliable way to bring them in would be to use the "DMC Bridge" feature. One packtalk could pair to one of the Q1's and bridge them in, and another packtalk could pair to the second Q1 and bridge that one in. At that point the two Q1's would be able to hear and speak to the whole group (including each other, of course). You're right about the Q1's only having one intercom channel, so when your friend and his wife return home, they would have to re-pair their two Q1's together again...but that's pretty easy. The only other way I could see it reliably working would be to have one of the Q1 users call you (like, mobile phone call you); you could then "Bridge" that phone call into the whole group, and the Q1 caller could share that phone call with the other Q1 that it's paired with (at which point everyone would be connected, but reliant on cell coverage). Hope that makes sense and helps out a bit!

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  4 года назад

      Good question - first thing, this is the ONLY method to get the two different brands talking. Second, there is always (unfortunately) a quality and range hit when pairing up two different brands. Totally unfortunate, and hopefully that changes in the future, but at least it can be done now (wasn't even doable when these things first started coming out) Hope that helps and best of luck man!

      Yep, that's correct. If one of them goes to "Universal Pairing Mode", then you would HAVE to go to "Mobile Phone Pairing Mode" (because that's how universal pairings work) and that'll work. All 5 of you should be able to talk once the intercoms are opened up.

    Thanks for the explanation as it is very hard to find his info from either Cardo or Sena. So just to confirm. I want to buy a Cardo Packtalk Bold. One of my friends has a Sena SMH10 and the other a Sena 10S. So for me to communicate with both of them in a group. I would connect to either one via bluetooth, with one of my Sena guys (hacking) treating my Cardo as a Mobile Phone, then my Two friends would connect to each other using their intercom function?

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  5 лет назад +2

      @Gran Turismo Arena yes that's right, you nailed it. One of the Sena guys would use Universal Inercom pairing mode, and you would have to use Mobile Phone pairing mode...that would get you two connected. Then the two Sena guys pair with each other using the native Intercom Pairing. All 3 of you would be able to communicate at that point. When the time comes for the guy with the SMH10 (that thing goes pretty far back) to upgrade; should he get a Packtalk as well, that would change everything for the better. The 2 Packtalks would connect in DMC Mesh and you would just Bridge the Sena 10s into your convo. Sorry for the long answer but I think you've got it!

    Two questions, does cardo bold have a wifi connector system like the sena 50 where it gets updates via the app no more computer connecting. Also if one person has sena and the other cardo does this pairing also need to be done everytime or dose the eg cardo remember the other headset if its entered into the pairing list in the app.

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  3 года назад

      1. No, still has to be plugged into the computer for firmware updates, but that's the only time- everything else is done from the app. In my perfect world it would be nice if the app could do the firmware updates as well but there must be something preventing them from going that route i guess. From what I've seen/read the wifi connector method seems to comes across a lot more easier than it really is??
      2. In theory, assuming that neither of you paired with anyone else, yes they will remember each other and you don't have to do this every time. BUT, I've had mixed results on that. Sometimes they remember each other, and sometimes they don't....no idea why that is. Once you know HOW to do it though, it's pretty easy to just knockout a fresh pairing when you get together; I find myself just doing that anyways. Hope it helps!
