I enjoyed seeing the big Brush Mulcher at the Tower project. It really does a nice job, and as you pointed out , leaves the soil in good shape for mowing and no debris to mess with. By the way, I continue to be amazed at how well the audio works in that wind. Impressive. Christy did a bang up job of capturing the action. Blessings to you.
Morning Tim. What you might try with that combination is to use the loader with either the bucket or grapple to push over the saplings, then back into the debris with the mulcher. Even high flow skid steers can be stalled running a forestry mulcher. It takes a lot of horse power to spin a 1800 pound drum. Check out the tracked Prime Tech 175, on the small end to the Prime Tech 475 on the eats anything up to 24" in diameter. Sure would be nice if you had a PTO on the front of the tractor. While you wouldn't have the visibility, you also wouldn't be looking over your shoulder. Still, for what you have, I'd be more than happy to own the Baumalight mulcher. This would be a nice way to create and maintain trails.

I have found that skid steer mounted mulches work better for big jobs like this. Simply because of the agility and the fact you can tilt the mulcher so that like you mentioned that bar pushes down on the brush and feeds through.
This looks great. Thinking about this mulcher for ou 4066r. Weve got power beyond for the backhoe but do you need to add a rear control valve to operate the door?
Hey Tim. I think it its supposed to be opened while backing into the pile then closed going forward to fine mulch. Im not an expert but I think that's the way I've seen it done...
Nice video Tim! I am curious if you have tried lifting the mulcher after you back into the pile and it stops the tractor? Then, after lifting, back in a little more and slowly lower your implement mulching downward and I think it would keep the ends lined up so as you continue to back up, it will continue to eat and suck those branches in. Love watching tractors in action!!
That way you could set the raise height so you aren't worried about driveline damage and your lower height so the mulcher in on the ground or just off of the ground and just toggle between the two settings when working.

The power reverser transmissions use a wet clutch and they can take allot of abuse so don't worry about riding the clutch while using the mulcher. I would also recommend a hydraulic top link to help draw in debris and get it mulched without plowing the ground.
The gates for if you want to shoot your chips out or keep it all contained. On other mulcher heads that bar does come down. Check out vbelt and SON on you tube in northern California. They do logging and mulching.
I'm a little confused on the power reverser transmission. I thought you didn't have to engage the clutch if you wanted to go the same speed forward as backwards? I thought all you had to do was move a lever to reverse or forward to go opposite direction in the same gear? I have a straight transmission tractor and it is a pain to have to constantly shift backwards and forwards and engage the clutch when I'm brush hogging in tight situations. I'm thinking Kubota also has the equivalent of a power reverser that I think is their glide shift or shuttle shift? It might make a good episode to team up with Neil messick on how the hydro differs from the power reverser and/or glide shift. It just look like to me that you were having to engage the clutch when the mulcher was slowing down which is similar to what I have to do when the brush hog starts slowing down in real heavy brush.

Hello Tim, I used the front end loader on my Kubota 3301L to dig up all the brush (primarily juniper and sage) on my 5.5 acres, piled it up and then burnt it. The ashes are good for the soil as well versus mulching that will take several years to decay to the point where plants can actually use it. Just a thought. The mulcher was interesting though. Cheers
The idea of the door on the mulcher is leave it open when backing up to the brush to allow it to feed and move it through the head so it doesnt stall, then when you are finished the pass you close it to mulch the downed debris...its a similar technique for the ones that go on the excavators.
These brush mulchers are so impressive. What's the PTO HP requirement for this model vs. The one you used before? Are the extra features available now on the smaller unit? Love your idea on the extra hydraulic feature. Project/attachment like this is what gives me pause for thought on a gear drive vs. HST.
How do you think the MP560 would work on grinding pine stumps in the 8"-10" range to 1" below grade with a 75 HP John Deere 5075E? I am having 3 acres of pine forest timbered. I was wondering if I cut the pine stumps with my chain saw to ground level, would the MP560 be able to grind the remaining stump to 1" below ground level?
@@marclambert2936 yes, you’ll do a lot of reverse and forward ..but the 12/12 (which I have) is just too fast, even in low gear. Remember, you need to run wide open throttle.

Interesting! I am thinking best use of the tractor if you where wanting to do a decent amount of this would be the front loader mounted with PTO driven pump I don't like the clutch slipping bad wear point. I do recall you using one but not sure where on the time line it falls lol. Good video
i asked about that when we first got the larger one. They said that these changes would raise the price of the smaller one up to nearly the same as the larger one. Those carbide teeth are expensive!
The autum olive and woody honeysuckle around my place near Carbondale is really thick in some places. I wade into it with my Stihl pole saw and try to reclaim the pasture . Invasive species are a problem.

I had a 3pt blower on a NH TT60A for a season. It took a ton of life off the clutch to be slipping at rated RPMs to go slower backwards. If I can’t run clutch out fully on an implement now, I get a different tractor. They just need more rear gear speeds on utility tractors.
Tim, Would it be possible to change the black push bar mounts where it attaches to the sides so it's forward more, or maybe bolt on a bar that sticks out farther ?
I was thinking the exact same thing that it would be nice to be able to push the brush down with the big bar on top. Maybe it will be an update on a model to come.
i'm not sure what brand it was, but i have seen brush cutters simular to yours with hydraulics on that upper push bar, but this has been awhile ago, and the machine may have been larger than your, but that would make a good TTWT video "modification of the brush cutter"
Watching and listening to what you thought would work better, and it looks like this kind of mulcher would be better served on a front mounted skid steer , you could even raise the mulcher higher when going into the brush and then lowering it onto the stump to further grind it ,and that black bar is probably not for pushing but so the tree doesn't come back on your machine , Great mulcher though ,enjoyed you insight and commentary .
I purchased a new John Deere 5045e for my grading, resloping clearing business. It was a beast of a Tractor and I loved it but transporting that Tractor and maneuvering it on residential ground was way too much. I sold it with less than 100 hours on it and bought an LS MT 240e. In my opinion a very nice Tractor. I’m wondering if you used a heavy duty cutter with this beast of a Tractor you might be better off? Nice video Tim Thanks for sharing.
No. There won't be issues while the saplings are green. If they were cut clean, then allowed to dry, they would be dangerous. With this tool, we cut them at ground level so there are no 'stobs' sticking up.
A cylinder in place of your top link would kind of give you that control to tilt the brush bar down. Not exactly the functionality what you want, but close.
Tim you should try a forestry tiller/mulcher I like the idea in theory because you could eliminate haul away entirely for certain projects. I’d like to see the feasibility of that

Great video tim ur weak spot is the tractor u need a cvx transmision at ease for that in forestry here in ireland we use valtra tractors mostly because u can get rear steer on them and on the high end mulchers u can move the big bar down to feed the scrub in but thats not a bad mulcher you have just not the rite tractor
This was worth the wait since last year. I think you showed a huge benefit to the hydrostatic transmission. It's just amazing to see what this mulcher can do along with it's smaller counterpart. Think Baumalight will take you up on your suggestion to have the push bar hydraulically controlled?
I think you would find that lowering the angle of that arm would induce several problems, one being that your implement would wind up being "lifted" by brush you are trying to mulch, which would cause undue strain on your attachment points and also lift the tractor off the ground causing loss of traction and possibly tipover. I am pretty certain the engineers put the rake on that guard at maximum safe angle to avoid such occurrences. As you were saying, take it slow, use multiple "bites" - go in high until you get pushback, then go low on second bite. Hydro trans would be better for that than having to clutch and shift F&R so much. Also, might need a "BaumaHeavy" for such thick stuff.😉 Great channel.
Baumalight also makes a rotary cutter called a Baumalight CP572. It will cut 4” and larger trees. They recently announced an option for a tailwheel which bolts on if needed. This makes it a formidable tool and a little more versatile. I like the finished cut of this unit, nice and smooth, no stubs. If you have a tractor, the 572 gives you a rotary cutter for mowing and a brush cutter for land clearing. Are you dtill using this or was it a demo? My neck is sore for two days after looking backwards all day. Thanks for the fun and informative videos.

Doesnt the shuttle shifft have so you dont have to use the clutch, thought you could go back abd forth without touching the clutch, most shuttle shift you only have to use the clutch when changing the different gears for the speed
I think you need to lift the cutter about a foot or two above the ground, then let it down as you back up it to the large stuff. I think the cutter would be better able to handle the brush as your moving from small diameter to larger size.
You mentioned having the arm hydraulically controlled but from the units I have seen most are attached by skid steer mounts, so with the solid arm and the bucket tilt function, that takes care of all the arm movements needed and would seem stronger than a hydraulic lever actuated arm because you now have the weight of the implement helping lower the tall brush. Pity about the slip clutch acting up but waaaaaay better than a shear pin. But great test of the implement, definitely put it to the test!
With such a heavy tractor, I wonder if it would be easier to knock the trees down with a front end attachment and mulch that from the ground. especially since you can't really lift the mulcher as high, like on a skid steer or an excavator mulcher.
seems to me a two pass method on larger stuff - up and go back maybe more that you did then down to get the stumps. More work but might be better on the process.

when tractor gets bogged down, there is no more 'lifting'.
Great video. Good demonstration. We have been doing a lot of land clearing ourselves. No easy method. I like what you’re doing.

One would have to buy a hydraulic power pack driven by the rear PTO...and route hoses all the way to the front of the machine.

You would be surprised. The areas we mulched last year don’t show much wood on the ground at all. The grass has overtaken it.

It works. However, the gear drive aspect of the 5075e is not good. A hydrostatic tractor is much more effective.

With all of these videos mulching and going through wooded areas, have you had many issues with sticks going through tires and causing problems

We tried it with a 4052R. Worked great! Is it this video, or another one? I can’t remember. It was on same day as this.

Great video tim ur weak spot is the tractor u need a cvx transmision at ease for that in forestry here in ireland we use valtra tractors mostly because u can get rear steer on them and on the high end mulchers u can move the big bar down to feed the scrub in but thats not a bad mulcher you have just not the rite tractor
This was worth the wait since last year. I think you showed a huge benefit to the hydrostatic transmission. It's just amazing to see what this mulcher can do along with it's smaller counterpart. Think Baumalight will take you up on your suggestion to have the push bar hydraulically controlled?

I think you would find that lowering the angle of that arm would induce several problems, one being that your implement would wind up being "lifted" by brush you are trying to mulch, which would cause undue strain on your attachment points and also lift the tractor off the ground causing loss of traction and possibly tipover. I am pretty certain the engineers put the rake on that guard at maximum safe angle to avoid such occurrences.
As you were saying, take it slow, use multiple "bites" - go in high until you get pushback, then go low on second bite. Hydro trans would be better for that than having to clutch and shift F&R so much.
Also, might need a "BaumaHeavy" for such thick stuff.😉

Baumalight also makes a rotary cutter called a Baumalight CP572. It will cut 4” and larger trees. They recently announced an option for a tailwheel which bolts on if needed. This makes it a formidable tool and a little more versatile. I like the finished cut of this unit, nice and smooth, no stubs. If you have a tractor, the 572 gives you a rotary cutter for mowing and a brush cutter for land clearing. Are you dtill using this or was it a demo? My neck is sore for two days after looking backwards all day. Thanks for the fun and informative videos.

Doesnt the shuttle shifft have so you dont have to use the clutch, thought you could go back abd forth without touching the clutch, most shuttle shift you only have to use the clutch when changing the different gears for the speed
A really impressive machine, but they are incredibly expensive and don't seem to be available for rental anywhere.
Can you not put it down in a-1 to get it to drive slower? I think that would help a lot!! I’m guessing that’s a power reverser trans.

I think you need to lift the cutter about a foot or two above the ground, then let it down as you back up it to the large stuff. I think the cutter would be better able to handle the brush as your moving from small diameter to larger size.
You mentioned having the arm hydraulically controlled but from the units I have seen most are attached by skid steer mounts, so with the solid arm and the bucket tilt function, that takes care of all the arm movements needed and would seem stronger than a hydraulic lever actuated arm because you now have the weight of the implement helping lower the tall brush. Pity about the slip clutch acting up but waaaaaay better than a shear pin. But great test of the implement, definitely put it to the test!
...but this is on a tractor :-).

With such a heavy tractor, I wonder if it would be easier to knock the trees down with a front end attachment and mulch that from the ground. especially since you can't really lift the mulcher as high, like on a skid steer or an excavator mulcher.
What would you do in rocky areas?

seems to me a two pass method on larger stuff - up and go back maybe more that you did then down to get the stumps. More work but might be better on the process.

Haven’t done much. Used the tree saw on it a few weeks ago to cut some more brush. Need to get it finished up!
