The right tool for the job! Results are outstanding! In NH, I try to mow end of May and middle of July. "Usually" less rain and a lot of heat stunts growth past that. Maybe another round in late Oct just to make an area look pretty.
Seems like a good place to plant wildflower seeds. The one thing I notice with driving backward is the tire tread is opposite what one would want when good traction is really needed. You need a small leaf blower to clean the screen and the AC unit, learned that from Tractor Mike. My fields look like that (minus the trees) every August when I mow the first time. I don't mow earlier so the wildlife has their nesting/bedding areas. Weeds easily 5' high, would be great to have that setup!!
When I told my wife how much I was spending on my 1025R just to essentially be used as a lawnmower she shook her head. I am a John Deere only diesel tractor guy. But this reminds me of the 80’s when I loved the big Steiger Panthers. It’s like a baby Steiger! When the new model comes out maybe I will give it a look! Love your channel. Thank you
Thanks guys, I’m looking forward to seeing the upgraded model with reverse fan and possibly better cab. All the way from Australia, where cooling is everything.
What a great job with the tractor and flail. That tractor is so versatile and out front mowing a real bonus. The dream would be, be as you stated, a to have CV or hydrostatic transmission. What a combination. Blsssings.
It’s called CRP(Conservation Reserve Program) this is a CRP-Grassland. They have a CRP for timber as well it’s a lot of different ones but this is a grassland one. And within they suppose to mow off so many acres every year and leave a portion standing for wildlife. Reasons why land can go into this program is due to erosion control or if it’s low producing land based on soil type. Landowner gets a rated payment per acre based on soil type and signup type for a contracted amount of years.
But they are suppose to have established grass stand and control of the weeds to get your payment. Somebody on the conservation board is not doing their job.
It's great to be Back on the farm. With that hitch on the front of the tractor, you could pull a small wagon that Christy could have been brushing the chaff off the radiator screens as you drove. Easy Peasy.😂😂
Great video ! Impressive mower! I love my 2 Maschio flails, well my new small one is painted green with different sticker on it, but still, it is Maschio.

That tractor mower combination for the overgrown material. That mower doing that added mulching is key to the finish look. Almost could use a batwing finish mower at a higher height. Keep on tractor Ing!
I made it through the hurricane here in Florida. Did not evacuate since we are in central Florida. We own 43 acres of swampland and most of it flooded. The house is completely fine😊
AGCO’s Valtra brand from Finland has some larger tractors that you can drive both ways. There are some RUclips videos of them snowplowing running backwards. Very popular tractors for use in combination with forest and farm work.
That is an awesome setup. I think if you mow once in the late spring early summer you can mow once a year. You will cut off the saplings before they get bigger. Most the growth occurs in the spring.
I really like that front mowing concept. Hopefully, Ferrari can perfect the design. Better yet, I wish other manufactures would come up with a similar design for today.
Along these same lines, of front mounted mowers with cabs, would love to see your take on a Deere Cab model 1585, I have seen some Italian manufactures make flails for the 1585s as well. Maybe sometime Deere could lend you one to test on your channel.
More or less every manufacturer from europe has reversible tractors in many sizes: New Holland, Valtra (135-201 HP), Ferrari, Antonio Carraro and many more. Hope you will find them more easily in the future over there as well.
4.7" That is crazy to "mow" up to that diameter. Also, to see that much growth in one year...makes you wonder what all that would look like if untouched in 5 or ten years. And...what did it look like 200 years ago?
Antonio Carraro makes these kinds of tractors too. It would be nice if more manufacturers built oscillating tractors. They're more stable on rough terrain. Reversible is a nice feature.
I really like your videos. They are very informative and give us a look at all kinds of different products. The Ferrari tractor I think is a great idea because I do not like driving over stuff and then cutting it after. I do have a question for you. What is the highest horsepower tractor you can get with a hydrostatic transmission? I had a John Deere 1025R and loved it, but I would like to get a bigger one with an enclosed cab as well.
Three times a year, they cut the tall grass on the vacant lots where I live. They use a farm tractor with a brush hog. Sometimes, they have to go through and pick up fallen trees and branches. It doesn't do such a great job, very rough.
Ferrari had the 95RSMP which was a reverse mount non-articulated but same wheel size 4WD (2-cylinder air-cooled Lomdardini diesel) back in the '70s followed by the Model 1100/1300 in the '80s that was a conventional 4WD tractor with a 3-point hitch in front (also Lombardini diesel). Back in the 70s Ferrari Tractors and Maschio tillers were a joined company here in the states.
I would like to see you use the landscape (harley) rake that Good Works used in a recent video. I dont know if that works out geographically for you, though.
I have shown harley rake on tractor before. I have one. The only reason you need me to show his is because you KNOW that he is not trustworthy in his reviews :-).
No I just wanted to see it used on a reversible-station tractor. It seems to me it would have the advantages of a skid steer and a "normal" tractor combined
The CRP or similar programs may state limitations on when mowing can be done; due to wildlife nesting, etc. Here in Missouri, you can plant the ground to warm season grasses and then you are required to burn it off every so often.
I believe the side booms are the best for running flails, we had a twenty four ft boom on a John Deere tractor keeps the material farther away from the machine.
The three industry best flail mowers are made by Maschio… Tigre, Bisonte and Bufalo. Bisonte is a rare mower in the USA. They will totally eliminate any Vegitation 4” and bellow. Not all of the models have bidirectional gearboxes, I had to custom order it on my Bufalo 300 but my Tigre doesn’t have it. I run the Bufalo on my Fendt 724 with 200HP PTO, I once ran over a 8” dia log in tall grass and the Bufalo shredded it like mulch for about 4’ with no issue. That’s crazy. There was no damage. What makes these mowers so heavy is the double shielding which no other flail mower on the market offers.
It is interesting you use the term "stob". We use it where I'm from in SE Kansas, but when I moved to Peoria IL people didn't know it and thought it was a made up term. Apparently it is a regional dialect term mostly used in Oklahoma and Texas.
I can second this missive! I am a 67 y.o. Texan and have heard it all my life. But it surprises me to hear that it’s not a normal term. I’m gonna ask my daughter, that lives up near Chicago after going to college at Wheaton (I should have vetoed that choice lol), to ask her husband and friends there, if they are familiar with “stob”. 😮
My grandfather called old dock posts left behind by hurricanes and ice in the Potomac River, which were a hazard to boats, stobs. He was a WWII veteran from Southern Maryland. No MW roots that I’m aware of.
My father sold at least one small articulating Italian tractor named “CAST” back in the early to mid 70’s here south of St. Louis. I don’t remember if the seat swiveled or was unbolted or flipped to the other side but it could be driven in both directions also.
It looks like it needs a plow. You may have to tackle a few of those stumps one-on-one. That land has been in set aside for some while. Plow, disc and drag.
The reversible fan is an option in Europe for 15+ years(BCS-Ferrari-Pasquali). I would suggest trying out the dual-steer version of this tractor if it is available in the USA.
That is an awesome set up mowing without breaking your neck looking back all the time but This video had fall allergies written all over it my eyes get itchy and water and nose stuffs up when mowing dry dusty grass in the fall
There are machines that will grind down a few inches under the surface and mulch the vegetation down that deep. A skid-steer and the mulching device together runs nearly $200,000, plus the carbide teeth for the machine are also expensive but the trees won't come back next year nearly as fast as your way here.
Recommend You pick up one of the small battery (20 volt) powered leaf blowers. They are small, powerful, and can address the exterior and interior issues on this tractor. 100% ... I would only buy any of these tractors (there are many to choose from, including TYM) where the fan blade directs air forward. Why any manufacturer would adopt a rear discharge fan makes no sense to me.
If it's planted with north American grass that would be good for the long term viability of the land because the roots go deeper and pull up nutriens that then go into top soil when it dies or is eaten.
@TractorTimewithTim You have to ask AGCO about that. Guess Massey-Ferguson and Fendt is considered 'enough' for you, Valtras are highly customisible and made for northern regions, with optional dual cabin heaters ie.
