How wonderful it is when scientists follow where the evidence leads, regardless of some preconceived bias.

Seth Shostak, lead astronomer at SETI said on an "On Point" panel discussion that since life appeared on Earth rapidly, "...it sounds like it wasn't a very difficult problem."
Take a look at what electron microscopy has done for our understanding of subcellular structures and dynamics. There are transportation systems, post office-like addresses, gateways, machinery manufacturers, storage and retrieval systems, rotary motors, walking motors and thousands of other design features.
And that's just single cells. Nobody understands the process of cell differentiation and the formation of organs with specific functions, secreting hormones for digestion, orchestrating the some forty steps of a cascade that stops our bleeding without solidifying our circulatory system.
Not to mention the web of life: Bees need flowers which need bees. Trees need fungi which need trees.
All of this reveals a mind. If SETI found a digital code that had instructions for building a machine like in "Contact," they would rush to press with it. Hey, guys, DNA and RNA build machines, thousands of them, and you think that information and that process is not from an intelligent source?
They should search for intelligent life in academia, it seems like there isn't any.

All life that we examine on Earth only exists and comes from preexisting life. Life never occurs from non living materials. There is much more to the entire universe than humans will ever know. Humans are not able to learn what the rest of the universe consists of, since it is beyond our human organic expeience. Life on Earth is miraculous, whether or not each individual recognizes or accepts it as a fact of life. The experience of life does not happen with out design at a level we cannot comprehend because of its complexity.

Really enjoyed this talk by Dr. Nemati; it is indeed scientifically naive to believe in a Cosmos brimming over with life. Then again, such foolish claims came from atheist minds. Time to think again!

Though i am not a thesit and don't and won't even think of considering earthly religions , but obviously i do agree there's a design and it's completely sane to keep searching more about that fine tuning cz That's what is actual Science there shouldn't be the element of rigidity not at least in Scientific Process.

I’d say the a priori problem is that if we see something *very* similar to earth, what probability do we assign to life there. In the same vein, not only do we ask how many planets would it take for one to land in all the habitable zones *but also* how many planets found to be in all the zones should probably be needed to find actual intelligent life, which is where the a priori is king.

We need a good definition of Earth-Like. You can say all the inner planets are Earth-Like. When your average person sees Earth-Like, they think...well Earth. This is only one problem....distances come to mind, the galaxy/universe is really really REALLY big, and we don't have a Star-Gate.

Hmmm, seems like our Earth is specifically, specially and purposefully designed for Life to exist. Wow, either that's REALLY fortunate or Earth was designed for us to exist! ID is a very viable option for how it happened. But that would mean a designer made it by design for us! Makes the most sense to me!
How do you set out to build a device to detect "dark matter" when we have never seen (it doesn't reflect or emit light) it and we basically know nothing concrete about it. They "know" it has to exist because that's the only way the calculations work.
Einstein really did regret his "cosmological constant" but it's still being used?
I heard that the 'big bang theory" is now considered the " big bug theory" because there's so many hugs in it. More doesn't work than does work and it raises a lot on rethinking on the origin of matter. Nothing existed, a flux exploded nothing and created everything?

  • @MichaelHarrisIreland

This is why we need to colonise other planets and why there can't be enough human beings or all life that's on earth to spread to other planets. We need to spread out into space to improve the chances of all life on earth to survive. The problem we have with our lives at present is we have no big aim for humanity. I'd suggest it's expansion into space. If we had that aim, our lives would make some sense.

If you are some generic deist or theist, I would think you have enjoyed this video. If, on the other hand, you call yourself a Bible-believing Christian or Jew, I would expect this video gives you great concern. What is discussed here is not the creation described in Genesis 1.

I am saddened by the Bible literalists who fail to see the enormous harmony between a belief in science and a belief in a loving creator God. They are missing a vital key in spreading the Gospel. 🙏

Great info, especially as from one on the ‘inside.’
I would definitely challenge his statement that the big bang is well-established: Halton Arp showed that red shift does not equal Doppler effect, assumed Doppler/red shift being a-if not the-foundation of the supposed BB. Take away Doppler and I believe the BB is virtually unsubstantiated.

A very strange irony in this conversation. The atheists, who, if they followed the science where it leads and remained consistent in their atheism, should come to the conclusion that it is extremely unlikely that life would exist in the universe at all, and that we are an incredible anomaly. Yet they are the ones saying there is lots of life out there.
But when you turn to believers in a God of design, who alone could easily overcome these probabilities and design as much life as God wanted in the universe, these people say there are no other life forms in the universe. They are the ones who should think it more likely.

We do not know that dark matter exists much less dark energy. There is a problem with gravity, There is not enough observable Mass for galactic cohesion. I don't believe it is a weakness to believe there is a Creator. There is a comfort and satisfaction knowing that God the Creator of the judeo-christian faith exists. The Bible offers many explanations and I believe God rewards our curiosity by revealing His design for the universe. This God-given desire to know draws us near to Him and reveals the workings of His creation. There is a mutual desire between God and man to form a relationship that is described in our Bible through the revelation of Jesus. For many reasons people believe science negates God but science actually reveals God's greatness and perfection. I know this annoys a lot of people but for me our discoveries in science provides a great sense of reassurance and peace. The answers to the really big questions are only available through God but humanities nature is arrogant and hostile that results in a eternal separation from God, hell.

He talks about the big-dung as if it really happened, forgetting it's barely a theory nowadays; it no longer holds water. In addition "dark matter" has not been proven yet, hello!
Still the emperor's new robe argument. However, we don't know if there are other civilization (which need not to be technological) out there 100 _percent_ either way.
This attitude of jumping over conclusion and overbearing of certain assumptions is really amusing; WE DON'T KNOW, that's the bitter fact.
As far as the religious angle of the argument, creation is not necessarily a one-time event, it can be continuous work in progress, so, no big-dung theory needed, as religious texts cannot be literal or subject to clear interpretation since they are riddled with many types of corruptions, especially as far as modern science is concerned. The Genesis and Day of Judgement are local events on earth, read worlds in collisions, and gardens of Eden is simply planet earth which had Saturn as its sun.
Humans have a tendency to dramatize historical events, but of course, that doesn't mean there is no God.
I'll give it +1 thumb for interesting content.

Having spent some time researching estimates like this (drake equation). They are rife with mathematical leaps of faith. Lining up a bunch of variables that you have a very weak data on and weak confidence in is not science. I recommend reading Michael Crichton's speech called "aliens cause global warming" where he explains that this type of estimate can produce interesting results that are essentially meaningless and are not scientific at all

The Big Bang makes no sense. From where did the time/space continuum originate? Material existence is the result of the de-acceleration of the metaphysical ubiquitous force/flow into mini subatomic particles at the threshold of the speed of light. This is the point everywhere at which mass/time/space emanates. Our experience of the primordial force is matter/time/space/gravity. Electromagnetism, the weak force and strong force are the result of the interaction of these first swirling particles entering the time/space/gravitational dimension. Try this theory on for size.
