Rolex Submariner "Hulk" versus Oris Aquis Date Green Ceramic! The hottest green dive watch of our time goes head to head with the hottest green dive watch of Baselworld 2018 in a matchup of Rolex 116610LV vs. an Oris Aquis Date that costs over three times less money. Both are steel dive watches with green sunburst dials, green ceramic bezel inserts on unidirectional dive bezels, full steel bracelets, diving claps, and 300-meter water resistance. Can the Oris Aquis pull a colossal upset against a Rolex Submariner honed over 65 years of evolution, or will Geneva's mightiest "montre" fight back this insurgent challenge. Find out on my latest "bootleg Versus" one-take luxury watch comparison!
The Rolex Submariner Date "Hulk" features a 40mm stainless steel case with green bezel surrounding a green dial on a stainless steel Oyster bracelet with folding buckle. Functions include hours, minutes, seconds and date. The watch also measures 12.8mm in thickness and 50mm from lug-to-lug.
The Oris Aquis Date features a 43.5mm stainless steel case with green bezel surrounding a green dial on a stainless steel bracelet. Functions include hours, minutes, seconds and date. The watch also measures 12.9mm in thickness and 48mm from lug-to-lug.

I'm not a watch collector, but I ended up getting the Oris Aquis Date after considering the Rolex. What sold me, besides the price, was that the green is subdued and unobtrusive. It's not in your face, but not boring either. It looks dark and classy, not calling much attention to itself, yet still has plenty of character when the light hits it. This watch must really be seen in person to understand if you appreciate this attribute.
Thanks for the comparison video :)
Im here because im bored 😁
@Zac Ariah thank you! Still love it, no regrets.
@Im here because im bored 😂😂😂
Great pick up! Wear it in good health!
For me, Oris is the winner🏆🥇
Another one for Oris!

True
Oris Aquis. Have the older edition, green bezel, grey dial. Built like a tank. Beautifully made. Great value for money. Great design as well.
RRP £1300 approx but can get for less.
This review finalized my decision to buy my blue Oris Aquis Date. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!
That's what we love to hear!
May you receive your Oris and wear it in the best of health!
- WatchBox Team
I love the depth of the Aquis green.
It's a more adult green, to be sure. And Oris made a clear decision to mute the sunburst grain of the dial along with the mirror-ball effect that a deep sunburst can produce. The Rolex's deep metallic dial grain reflects huge volumes of light and creates the impression of a far brighter color.
Best,
Tim
That Aquis is tempting! I think the Hulk would look better if its bezel were a little darker.
The Oris launched in 2018. My theory is that Rolex was limited by consumer ceramic tech when it developed this 2010 model year Sub during the late 2000s. That, and Rolex's undoubted insistence on doing this in-house likely dictated the ultimate color of the bezel more than design team intentions.
Best,
Tim
WatchBox Reviews Well said my friend!
Dammit Tim, if I buy the Oris now, It will take me that much longer to get the Rolex! Dammit all!!!
You have to ask yourself one simple questions: do you want a watch like the sub, or do you want the sub?
Its not a trick question. For example, I want a watch like the Rolex Explorer, but it doesn't have to be the Explorer. Thus a watch like the Tudor Black Bay 36 will satisfy me.
@@trevbarlow9719 Aside from both being dive watches, the aquis and the sub are nothing alike.
@@kmcel190 both are green, have shiney ceramic bezels and are about the same size. Both are made by independent Swiss companies. Neither are going for a vintage feel, but rather a modern one. Just to name a few similarities. They wouldn't have made this video if all they had in common were that they were divers.
I bought my first Oris in 2004 and have never looked back, glad to see over the last few years the brand is getting the reputation it has always deserved.
I think if someone watched this video, who had no clue about watches and pricing, and they were asked which one is worth 7times more than the other, they would most likely choose the oris as the more expensive one, it just looks classier.
I agree. I also cant stand the massive case of the rolex.
I've tried really hard to love the Hulk, but that bezel looks lighter than the dial, as if it's washed out and faded. The Oris just looks a ton better.
100 percent: the Oris does a better job of matching its dial to the color of the ceramic insert. The Rolex mismatch likely reflects the state of consumer ceramics technology in the late 2000s when Rolex was developing this watch. Oris' green ceramic Aquis launched at Baselworld 2018, so even at a lower price point, the tech simply works better in our time. Further, Oris created a darker and less overtly metallic dial that reflects less light, and I'm sure that considerable energy was expended matching the dial to the bezel insert.
Best,
Tim
@Warrior Savant I don't doubt it, and probably I exaggerated a bit. I really like the dial, and came close to buying one, but the bezel just didn't quite do it for me personally.
I've had the green 39.5 mm Oris for over a year now. It's a fantastic watch. Easy to wear, great bracelet, bright lume, and the selita keeps excellent time.
Oris
Any day
Oris👍🇸🇪
Love that taper on the Oris strap. Oris uses the same shade of green for bezel and dial, looks a lot more grown up than the cartoonish Rolex....
This video was one of the contributing factors in my recent purchase of a 39.5 mm Oris Aquis Limited Edition Clean Ocean with what I think can only be described as an aqua-marine dial.
I ordered the Oris Aquis Green Date 4 days ago, can't wait to get it and start wearing it ! My first high end watch for my collection , just save up for an Omega Speedmaster now . Great channel and Vlogs !
7 oris aquis dates or 1 hulk...🤔
1 Oris aquis and a lot of money
Love the aquis, Oris sure do offer excellent value for money
Great Vid as always Tim, When I travel, I take both with me. Oris is great value for a 30 BAR watch.
Awesome! It definitely has some great water resistance! Thanks for sharing and enjoy your watches! - WatchBox Team
Not calling you out Tim but merely an observation. Sometimes I feel you make comparisons or make statements when it fits and aren’t consistent.
1) always state Rolex is the best clasp in the business but say you prefer the push button clasp on the Oris
2) state Oris let’s you see the movement but on numerous occasions you state that it’s a cheap trick by companies to put a display case back on basic non decorated movements
These are a few examples. Still enjoy your reviews and Watchbox.
I love Tim! He is a real expert when it comes to watches and he has all the respect from me as a watch lover, but we have to remember that in
these presentation videos he is foremost a salesman. He has to make both products present as desirable. That's why you will find a few contradictions, especially if you follow him regularly. He earns his bread with watch sales...
The best clasp in the business is the Tudor Pelagos...NO CONTEST. Rolex is tiresome
This was a very gentlemanly call out! Ha. Cheers.
Tried on the Oris today, it's a lovely watch for the money and the green dial is gorgeous...my next watch
Damnit, need that damn Oris now..
Awaiting delivery of an Aquis date relief, can't wait.
The Cyclops window has always stopped me buying a Rolex, I now own 3 Oris and wouldn't buy any other brand
You know there is a sub no date model, if that is the problem
@@marinjovic9017 not in green though, I believe. I would prefer a no- date green if it were available. I agree the look is cleaner. Just my opinion though.
Awesome video tim. I like how you specified the measurements comparison of each watch, and i do agree they're pretty similar, even tho by paper the oris is slightly bigger. I purchased an Oris Aquis Cliperton LE and i cant enough of it. Love how gorgeous it looks.
Surprisingly appropriate comparison of two very differently priced watched. Nice work.
Thank you, Sir! Some folks are grousing about the price disparity, but I like the deliberate mismatch. Illuminating unexpected value is more fun than repeating RUclips worship of the same Rolex for the 50,000th time.
Best,
Tim
I LOVE the Green ORIS, gorgeous watch
Awesome comparo. Your "versus" style is perfection. Love that Oris.
Thanks for your feedback James! Glad you like our video!
- WatchBox Team
Thank you so much for this awesome review. Can I ask you a question?
Is it worth it to wait till I can buy a Black Bay or Seamaster 300? Or just go and buy Aquis and save money? I just need only one diver watch to wear on weekends and during my vacations.
The Rolex hulk green is a little tiresome
To be sure, it's a more overt green than the Oris. Aside from sheer Rolex fatigue on RUclips (I feel it), there's a lack of focus on value. As dive watches, these are functionally similar; as style statements, the Oris' green might be a better all-around option than Rolex's relentless jolly-green-giant-effect.
Best,
Tim
I have Oris aquis blue sunburst, recently bought and enjoy it daily. Kindly make a comparison of Oris with Omega seamaster. It would be great.
There are a few quality differences, most of all the movement. Design-wise Oris is better (that is a matter of taste). But the Rolex quality is not 12 times as good.
Agree
You can get 7-10 Oris aquis watches for 1 Rolex. Oris is usually on sale, and good luck with getting Hulk under 12k.
I must say, this is a very well done, and very honest review. Quality comparison
Thanks for tuning in!
- The WatchBox Team
I don’t know what’s about the Rolex hulk but no other green diver comes close
Nice comparison!
By the way how do you think about Oris Aquis against the new Mido ocean star?
That's a VERY tough opponent that might be able to out-Oris the Oris. I won't know until I get them both in one place.
Best,
Tim
Oris Wins that! I've had all 3 of them, Hulk, Aquis and Oceanstar
I have a 46m Oris small second snd feels way smaller,Oris does a good job making there watches seem smaller.love that green had to put that in.
May you wear your Oris in the best of health!
- WatchBox Team
1/3 the cost? More like 1/6th the cost LOL. Choice was easy for me, I actually prefer the darker green. Only thing missing from Oris is a glidelock-type system. I opted for the rubber for that reason, as it does offer on-the-fly adjustment.
I bought the 39.5mm Oris (Aka: Yoda) and I LOVE it. It is my watch on the way to the Hulk. Eventually one day I WILL own the Hulk. I love them both.
Oris is an amazing watch and even more so for the money. I love Rolex Subs but not for the price they are asking. At their price I could have the Oris and a (Tudor, or Omega, or Breitling)
I have that Oris..bought on a cruise ship, I love this green..better than any other
Tim I just ordered the Oris Aquis Source of Life watch. My first Oris and I am very much looking forward to it. Buying a Hulk at an AD is proving to be a very long wait..lol.
The Oris Aquis Source of Life!? May you *LITERALLY* wear your watch in the best of health!
- WatchBox Team
WatchBox Reviews Thank you very much! I will do my best 👍😀
Thoroughly enjoyed your review! I’ve been considering an Oris and want a green dial for my collection. TY!
Great review. Has anyone noticed that the Oris bracelet tapers a little too much down to 18mm. It was once 20mm who h was more masculine to match the case. The other flaw is that I need glasses to read the "oris" on the clasp. Like it was a last minute engraving from the guy at the market unlike the bold stamped Oris on the tt1 which was a nicer bracelet. Apart from that it is great compared to the over priced old boring Rolex.
Another one for Oris! You have an extreme eye to detail there Joseph!
Thanks for your input!
- WatchBox Team
Just picked the Aquis date green today. A nice little add to my collection. Love it.
I assure you the value of Oris aquis will increase value most especially the green . I have the Oris green Rolex submariner, Omega seamaster and Rolex deep sea dive Oris is a beauty at it's price
I am sorry, I am really struggling to tell if the bezel is black or dark green...can you tell me?
Love both... the Hulk is just an icon that'll double as a fantastic store of value going forward. The case back on the Oris just bugs me (People don't want to see ETA movements), but still an incredible watch for $1300 via Jomashop.
I agree with you on ETA movements and case backs. I only describe it as an advantage in the video because people constantly tell me that they WANT to see the movement regardless... I disagree on an individual basis. Rough automatics are reliable and can be accurate, but we don't need to see them. Actually, Oris gets it right on the "Source of Life" Aquis limited edition that I filmed this week. It has a custom image and map with individual numbering for the edition, and I prefer this to the standard watch. That video should post in a few days.
Best,
Tim
I disagree. I have an Aquis and love being able to see the movement. Admittedly it’s my only automatic watch, but I still love looking at the balance wheel spinning around sometimes.
Many people do still want to see movements... Speak for yourself haha.
I don't know how you can say the Oris is 1/3rd the price and at the end of the video the Oris is $2k and Rolex is 9k.Even if you don't factor in taxes, that's 4.5x difference. Thanks for the nice comparison, however!
Glad to hear even with a little rounding up you still like the comparison! Thanks for watching - WatchBox Team
And that's only if you can find the Rolex from an AD. Grey market prices are like 10x.
The Oris for me, the green when you're out and about is so good, plus the strap and bracelet is a great and at a fraction of the price
Tim, when you hit your fifties you will appreciate the cyclops on the date!
had the green Oris really smart on but sold it
as it felt too small on my wrist, i have two small seconds Oris watches
and are bigger in every way, for the price difference i'll stick to Oris thanks
Oris not only for my purse and the diff.between the two is out all Logics
Tim, you know so much about watches ... in its essence ... you really understand things deep. I feel like it’s your true passion... don’t spend your time selling stuff ! Get a job at a company like iwc or blancpain and make them do great products again like Steve jobs did when he came back to apple ! Get rid of the shit products and make them focus on good stuff ... cuz u can’t tell me almost all watches sold by Rolex are amazing and all the other companies have one or two model even worth looking at .. and some companies like GP or c.f bucherer not one :(
aquis offers so much value for the money. i just bought the black bezel with the blue face. has the quality of divers costing 3-4k
I own both of this watches. This review is spot on. Oris has built quality for the money and its suprisingly small on the wrist. Love my green aquis.
"For those times where you dare not go with your Rolex." Like snorkeling, or diving, for most Rolex owners.
Just bought the Oris Aquis date day but dark blue and l think it is a fantastic watch. The owner of the watch shop just got cancer and is stopping his business and he told employees to sell everything quickly. So there was a deal including a more expensive Oris watch and the Oris and both were 60% off so l ended up buying it 850 instead 2000$. Great deal
Oris looks better in color and unique design
Let's see a new vs. w/Rolex & the newer 41.5mm Oris 400
I could buy 4 different Oris aqua date for the price of the Rolex and have a very tasteful collection... Who needs status when you have a variety to choose from.
I like Rolex, but the evergreen shade of green used by Oris is much nicer. They do the Oris in a 39.5mm now too
If we can drop off the brand name of both watches,,, I will go for the Oris. The design is more clean cut especially w/o a date window.
"Status" ... ha
Aside from better materials and internals, I prefer the "Oris." Even the "green" color looks better.
What wouldn't green go with? When it comes to the Oris I like the green more than the blue sunburst but I feel like the blue Sunburst would go with more. Am I wrong?
I believe that the green will age better as a style. Blue dial watches are well into the realm of cliche, and we might start to view watches from this era through that lens. Like gargantuan watches during the 2000s and two-tone watches during the 1980s and 90s, I believe that blue dials might be viewed as a factor that dates a watch from our moment in the eyes of the future.
Best,
Tim
I literally was wishing for this versus. Are you psychic Tim?! Hulk is on my wish list as the one Rolex I need to have to have a Rolex in the collection. Also in my wish list collecting journey is desire for a Panerai 232, a Rose Gold Cartier Tank (Solo or Louis), a JLC extra grand Ti Sun Moon (is there a grand Ti model with a date by the way); a ceramic Panerai Radiomir, a Grand Seiko GMT SBGM221, and as a grail, any F.P. Journe, but the Octa Havana tobacco brown with moon phase. Man, that’s my exit watch! Keep up the good work!
I think if you do a comparison between the rolex hulk to the new oris 39.5 mm version for their hulk, it would really interest many people
Godddddd that was a crazy good review. Subscribed.
Welcome aboard!
I think the Oris would really be a great watch to own, it is a really nice piece, thanks for the review.
I like the Oris Aquis Date modern diver watch design. I like the Oris Aquis case, dial, crown and bracelet. The Oris display case back that is rare in a diver watch is awesome. I like Oris signature red rotor. The $2000 Oris Aquis Date is affordable without being cheap, any middle class man can put an Oris Aquis on a credit card but it is different for the awesome $9,000 Rolex Submariner Hulk.
wow....That Oris looks super clean and elegant, Rugged yet refined...People buying the Rolex is just for its namesake...in fact, if you get the Aquis on the strap you will get that super awesome vanilla scent along with it...
Now that there is 39.5 mm Oris Aquis too, the similarities got even bigger. Great review. U can really talk :))
Thank you Tim. What a superb choice for a comparison. Many who are frustrated by the Rolex Green Sub waiting list are turning to alternatives. The Oris is an obvious choice. Great to see them side by side.
Nobody is buying an Oris because the Hulk wait-list is too long. One can easily buy a Hulk in new condition, pre-owned. Or if someone must have a new watch and doesn't want to wait, they'll buy a black Sub. People buy a Hulk--or any Rolex--because it makes a certain statement when you put your hand down and people see a Rolex on your wrist. The Oris is a fine watch, for people who are looking for a watch at that price point, but it does not make the statement that a genuine Rolex makes.
Oris is real class without the piss take pricing .
Love Rolex but this model for me is as good as Toywatch i believe you must have 0 taste to buy it . Oris looks better for sure .
Please review the Oris artix gt.
Oris wins ! Rolex overhyped marketing to pull price up
Tim does it again. Great comparison.
I can’t put my Oris Shrek down. I love this damn thing. It so hot! Only watch I wear that people ever comment on. LOVE it.
recently i forked out 13 grant for a 2016 submariner hulk because i'm sick of waiting for the past few years and finally decided to pull the trigger because i came across a watch collector who told me that as long as you buy the "right" rolex, don't be overly concerned that you are paying a premium on it as it is going to be more expensive as history of rolex had reminded us that this is a fact if you bought a right one, but if you buy a wrong rolex, no matter how you are going to lose money. In that instance, i realized that as long as there is an overwhelming and hungry demand for the watch, that should be the right one as compared to those that continued to sit in the display counters of those AD waiting for their time.....
The Hulk is a future classic :)
The Oris is stunning I own this exact one 😍
Love both dial but the Oris did the bezel better ......the rolex looks aged should have copied the kermit
Solid point there Marc, thanks for sharing!
- WatchBox Team
Rolex Hulk not readily available new from your AD... For this alone the Aquis wins :).
Excellent breakdown. Educational for me as I find the appearance of the Hulk large and bulky, as many of the Rolexes appear to me. Having only seen in videos and photos, the Oris seemed more sleek in appearance. Seeing that the Oris actually has a larger footprint was very informative. Thank you for the excellent review. Just the facts. Oris by a nose for me in this one.
i love aquis but rolex is far beyond...it just too good
For a 16 mm wrist, the Oris fits your wrist better. The Rolex hangs over your wrist with a gap because of the larger lug to lug. Of course, if you have a larger wrist, the Rolex would fit better.
Oris hands down
Excelent video, beautiful watches.
Thanks for your kind words Luis, we appreciate you!
- WatchBox Team
I've got both. I must say the Rolex is by far a much better quality watch. But then again, you get what you pay. The Oris is a mighty fine watch for its price
Can you tell what the better quality is in the rolex besides on paper? And why on earth you got both?
FIVE TIMES BETTER VALUE WISE 1600 VS 9000....HELL KNOW. THE HULK IS LIKE OTHER ROLEXS NOTHING TRANSCENDING
sorry but higher quality my ass... I have rolex, cartier, carl bucherer and the quality is top notch on all three. Guess what? Oris makes them as good -quality wise, if not sometimes better.... Rolex is just the hype, billions of dollars go to marketing, that is what you end up paying for a rolex sub these days... Oris all the way. I just got my new green baby
Aquis is so hot, i own one and it’s incredible watch for everyday lifestyle ❤️
I have a oris and I love it 🥰
It’s Great for the Price and Very good
Both beautiful watches, I would like both in my collection 😆
would buy the oris if they make the 39mm green ceramic
Now possible !!!!!
They do
I like green watches! I want the Rolex, but I have an Oris budget.
“the click isn’t as satisfying” love it!
Hulk beaten by The Green Lantern 😱
Does this Oris Aquis green dial has a green rubber strap?
You can get it on steel, brown leather or black rubber
Feels like I just ran a marathon!!
Really wish you would have said at 09:30, "...whether you're in a business suit, your birthday suit, the board room or the boardwalk..."
