  • After recently doing my first Bikepacking trip on my mountain bike I came back with a few things that needed sorting.
    Firstly the mudguards I thought would be ok weren’t and secondly I needed a small rack fitted to the front to keep my bag from rubbing on the forks.
    So with new mudguards and rack fitted I headed on a test ride to make sure all was good, now the bike is proper ready for winter use, the winter trips I will be doing will be shorter overnighters.
    As camping in winter means 12-14 hours of tent time unless it’s a beautiful starry night and you can spend the night star gazing.
    However I’m a realist and live in the north, so long nights in the tent keeping warm and dry, but if I can get a few of these camps in until the springtime this will keep me in good stead.

      Yep that’s the plan, although 14 hours of tent time isn’t that appealing ⛺️😂 🙏 for a starry dry night 👍

    good stuff dave ive always said a proper winter bike has got to have full length guards on .ive got some brand new sks guards but i need to sort the fixing point where the chainstays meet the bottom bracket.probably a thick cable tie 🚴👍

      Too right Geordie, so much crap comes off that front wheel, can’t beat a good thick cable tie 🚲👍

    Perfect timing! I was considering getting these mudguards but concerned about whether the rear would fit along with a rack - looks like it will! Cheers. Subscribed 😊

    Hopefully we'll have a dry cold winter.
    I'd like to recommend two bike packing trips I completed this summer for yourself and Ian.
    Prestatyn to Cardiff hugging the Welsh coast.
    My favourite one though was London to Burnley on the canal, started in Brentford on the Grand Union and finished in Burnley on the Leeds Liverpool via the Trent and Mersey and the Bridgewater.
    Keep turning those legs all the best mate.

      We have talked about a trip from London heading north via the canal.Ian has done a lot more longer trips than me, like always time is the big factor ! Work, family and weather 😂
      Let’s hope for a cold crisp winter 🥶🙏👍 atb Dave

    Bikes really looking the part, those little front racks are great, I’ve got 2 on bikes, no problems after a few years of use, really light and miss them on bikes I’ve not got them on🚲👍🏻

    I wonder how those mudguards will cope when things get super off road muddy though Dave? I guess you may have to avoid certain places during the Winter which is no bad thing.
    My Bootzipper has got new tyres now but no mudguards.
    Nice to see the drone footage in this one. What drone did you use? Just got the Neo here and yet to try it out:)

    • @davesolobiker5601
      @davesolobiker5601  3 месяца назад

      Yes I guess really muddy conditions then it will get messy and block up 😂😂 but for tow paths and forest roads it will be fine.
      I have the little X1 drone it’s ok but only 2.7k , I have just bought the neo also as you can fly it both handheld and also using your phone or controller 👍

    Great stuff Dave. I presume your inner tubes have removable valves cores(?) which inner tubes have you found the best ones to use with sealant? Cheers mate, Paul.

    • @davesolobiker5601
      @davesolobiker5601  3 месяца назад

      Yes all have removable cores so can fill and top up with sealant when necessary, tubes in use at the moment are all schwalbe ones. These do a great job 🚲👍 atb Dave

    • @mortyoutdoors7109
      @mortyoutdoors7109 3 месяца назад +1

      Continental and vittoria also do tubes with removable cores and of course any shrader, I’m using those at the moment as really easy to get the sealant in, make sure your rims will take them though, 6mm valve hole in rim for presta, 8mm will take both 👍🏻

    What tyre pressure's do you run Dave?

    • @davesolobiker5601
      @davesolobiker5601  3 месяца назад +1

      I’m a man of pressure touch lol , if it’s too hard a ride I lower the pressure. but basically if it’s mostly on road I run them higher but off road I lower them to smooth out the bumps.🚲👍

    I don't mean to sound dismissive, but why don't you just go tubeless? You're halfway there anyway. How are you getting along with those forks?

    • @davesolobiker5601
      @davesolobiker5601  3 месяца назад +1

      It’s the easier option than going fully tubeless , no need to seal rim and change valve. It works well so I’m happy. Forks going great and enjoying the weight saving 👍
