Lots of the tracks in the OST are amazing imo. Playing Starfield and hearing the OST brought me back to the days playing their older games, or just older games in general. Inon knocked it out the park, no kidding.
"Deep Freeze," "Akila City," "Within the Walls," and "Silent Orbit" are my favorites. Something about the progressions and overall atmosphere just gets me.

This track is such a love letter to classical "space adventure" orchestral scores. I hear Star Trek, Star Wars, Disneys Black Hole movie (the main theme of that is why I love Waltz's, definitely check it out in your free time), a little of The Last Starfighter. It brings such strong feelings of nostalgia and curiosity I had watching old scifi shows as a kid.

Loved your analysis here, especially digging into the subtleties of the arrangement like the sforzandi and the various accents the strings are being used for. Holst's Planets are some of the first pieces of music I can remember hearing, so anything in that ballpark is always especially emotional for me. Delighted to see you enjoyed this piece as much as I do!

Same! Ever since I heard Holst's The Planets, I can't unhear it from most contemporary movie-type music. lol Probably all started with John Williams and his Star Wars OST. You can certainly hear Holst's influence in almost ever one of the pieces.

The change in tone over the course of the main theme sets such a great tone to the game.
Maybe today we'll be chilling doing zoology in a habitable Planet, analysing the possibility of settling. Maybe you'll grav jump into a derelict ship Full of nightmare fuel.
Maybe you'll prepare for a long, long set of jumps to a Galaxy where humanity barely visited...
Or maybe you just touched something extradimensional, where lights and music is all that you can fathom....for now?
What a great analysis, and you did before the game launched!

And then it leads to the adventures that are being experienced there

As I listen to this piece, it brings to mind Holst's The Planet suite. Written between 1914 and 1917, each piece in the suite were dedicated to each of the 7 planets (not including Earth). Like this Starfield suite, it goes from the beginning of the journey with Mercury, the war beat of Mars, the prideful (and heroic) Jupiter, then ends with the mysterious beyond with Neptune. Also a fun fact, The Planets was written almost 2 decades before the discovery of Pluto so it only consisted of the 7 planets.
At its premier, critics blasted The Planets as being terrible and hard to listen to. It took several more decades and another World War before the suite was truly appreciated in the cinematic context.
    :edit:
I just realized that you mentioned Holst's The Planets near the end. lol I should have watched the video to the very end before posting. XD

Idk if you can call it an obscure game, cus it's from a very popular franchise XD But it's from one of the less popular entries of it, the soundtrack for Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, especially the tracks "Mandus" & "The New Century", they are incredibly beautiful pieces of music, and there's also a version of Mandus called "A Child's Shadow", where there's some dialogue included, same with The New Century, where there's a version with dialogue called "The New Century Dawns", the story the game is trying to tell is incredibly powerful, and you can really feel the emotion in the music. Some other tracks I'd also suggest would be "The Church", "Christ Have Mercy" & "The Children", but the first 2 I mentioned earlier are the ones I'd love to hear you opinion on the most if you were to check the soundtrack for the game out

Hey Marco! I always love your videos, I'm glad to have your analysis of music. I have a recommendation for something I don't think you've reacted to (I at least tried searching for it first), but the music of the video game series by Blizzard: Diablo. With the 4th installment being the most recent having come out June of this year, but the original being from 1996! The first two games were composed by Matt Uelmen, with the 3rd game switching to Russell Brower with a few others for additional pieces according to the wiki. The credits I could find in my quick search for the 4th game were for 'senior composers Ted Reedy and Leo Kaliski'. Matt Uelmen's music for Diablo 1 and 2 is HIGHLY renowned as the best in the series, and if you were to read comments on any video with Diablo 3 music, you're likely to find people bashing it heavily, however I believe this is tied to the way people view the game (3 changed the series drastically in style from 2 and people were split on it) and not necessarily the music itself (Personally I prefer 1/2 style, but it doesn't mean 3 is bad, its got crazy good songs too). I haven't really listened into 4's music yet, so unsure of what to say there.
Interestingly, the music in Diablo 1 and 2 are typically tied to location, and so name of the songs match. Diablo 3 changes that in the name at least, but still has incredible pieces in my opinion. Some will likely be labeled Diablo 2 LOD which is the expansion, same as Diablo 3 ROS, that game's expansion. (Lord of Destruction, and Reaper of Souls respectively).
Sorry for the long comment here. If you want my piece recommendations:
Diablo 1 Tristram theme (the most iconic music of the series, DEFINITELY THE START POINT IMO!)
Diablo 2 Harem (yea yea lol)
    Diablo 1 Hell
    Diablo 2 Wilderness
Diablo 3 And The Heavens Shall Tremble (see the naming difference? lol)
    Diablo 3 A New Dawn
Diablo 3 ROS Reaper of Souls (title track, so same name as expansion itself)
Diablo 2 LOD Fortress (actually all of LOD tracks are awesome too)
Diablo 3 ROS Blood for Blood
And I'm unsure of Diablo 4's music! So would be a new adventure to get into if you decide to check any of this stuff out. Thanks a bunch for the content either way Marco! You might also find it fun to do lore readings or something like you did in your Mordekaiser league video!

Inon Zur's music stands out for its paradoxical quality of technically having a progression, but still being utterly monotone and at the end, forgettable. Each title's crescendo and climax is no more memorable than any other part, so more often than not, the opening becomes the earworm, while the rest is largely falling out of one's memory.
Ferelden at War is his best piece of work he ever did, where there was an actual buildup to a truly climactic few seconds to which the ending came disappointingly fast (with Fallout 4's theme being a close second that also breaks his usual formula). He crafts with the intention for his music to blend in to be 'unnoticeable', but in that effort, it actually manages to become unremarkable.
