I wanted to tune an old violin, and I wasn’t sure how much pressure I could put on each string before it would break. The visual demonstration really helped, and now it’s fully tuned!
I know how to tune, but my G string went down in pitch A LOT because I didn’t play it for a week and it was in a colder environment where I had it, and I am terrified of raising it up to G again because I am scared of breaking a string while tightening the string to get it back into tune again.

I did violin in middle school for 3 years. After the second year, my first teacher left and we got a new one. My second teacher didn't bother teaching us the pegs at all and hated waiting on us to tune and just did it for us. She told us "you'll learn how to tune better in highschool." I moved before I went to the highschool and my new highschool didn't have an orchestra Ive been sitting here for two fucking hours and I still can't tune my fucking violin. I'm getting so ready to just throw it away and never play again. It's been out of tune for two fucking years and I just want to play. I'm fucking over it. I can't tune it.
i know this was two years ago, but i'm a beginner violinist and all the Lisle shops near me are closed for the next two days and i really need to learn this one song. if you see this, could you help me out? my D string is super loose and when i try to tighten it it just unrolls, even when i press the peg back in.
Hi, there are two things you can try. One is to wind the string very close to the peg wall so that last couple of turns the string starts to wedge itself between the wall and the coiled string. The other is to put some of the rosin dust on the peg. It will make it a bit sticky and therefore would prevent slipping. I hope this helps, good luck!
Hi, sounds to me that real solution for that is to go to a violin shop to have the pegs professionally refitted. Other cheap option is to put a peg paste on. You can get that in music stores or online.

G string is very resilient so Even if you would go a whole step above the g it would still be fine.
I am glad I can help!

you dont need someone to teach ngl i learned by myself. i can help if you want but idrk how besides tell you the steps
You need to fine tune your vernacular!
I'm scared of moving the pegs.I feel like the strings would snap if I go higher.

Every Time a leave my instrument out it goes out of tune and now i have to wait for a teacher to tune ot so i hope this video works
Great tutorial 👍
i dont know if we used it right but it broke and im kinda mad
Do you know which string broke? Sometimes it’s easy to mix them up and if you try to tune the wrong string to high it’ll snap.
So I loosened the A string and tried to tighten it back but it’s still loosened and it’s not playable at all and I can’t even move the pegs
Hi, do you mean that the peg is stuck or is that the tip of your string fell out of the hole?
Every time I move my peg it keeps going back down what should I do?
You tighten the peg, I think. You have tho push the peg in the slot because of its conical shape to tighten it.
My pegs either dont move at all or slip
😐

my e string broke because of this. Thanks a lot😠

Friendly reminder that beginner violinists are recommended having fine tuners (I'm just a little bit late)
Completely agree. I also like to recommend a geared pegs but that’s a bit expensive.
