Claiming that the natives had no concept of territory and land ownership is a lie. The natives certainly fought each other over territory and resources. They also practiced slavery.

Eh, parts of this are tribe by tribe. American Indian is just like saying European. Yep, they share a land mass &, due to common resources, technologies, environmental factors, may have similar customs & culture…but they tribes did vary a good bit from basically pacifist to warrior/slaver nation.
Plus, can’t stand the use of “native” for American Indians simply because they migrated over earlier…at that point, is there a cutoff date to be “native” or a particular number of years or generations to be “native”?

I’m Indian and will say that rival Indian tribes were far more ruthless than the settlers. Ive never seen since betrayal that lead to generations and generations of damage. There was definitely a hierarchy and if you didn’t fit into the right part of it, some of the most unimaginable horrors happened.
I’m the first in my family in generations to not grow up on a reservation. A lot of sacrifice by my grandparents went into breaking the cycle, which my mom almost screwed up and repeated.
Point being, it wasn’t the settlers that created the issues that it took hundreds of years to fix. When I trace things back, it was other Indians and multiple tribes banding together with the settlers to destroy us. There’s 0 unity. It’s a tough pill to swallow to be part of a race that is more fragmented than any other I’ve ever seen. Usually throughout history with in-fighting, it’s one side vs another.
With Indians, ir was one side vs another side vs another side vs another side vs another side, etc etc etc.
This wasn’t the “our land”. It was an absolute mess of a bunch of rogue groups. Peace was established after the settlers. Period.

People are people. The noble savage concept is one of the most frustrating. Personally, I despise the aggrandizement of groups and the denigration of groups. If you took a baby born in modern day England and implanted them into a 1300s tribe in America, guess what'll happen? The baby will grow up and reflect the aspects of the society they grew up in, positive and negative.

Correct. I took a history class that went over this in pretty good detail. Natives basically just murdered each other and took each other's land and if they didn't kill everyone they would steal people. Liberals like to pretend that natives didn't have a sense of ownership, but they absolutely had territory and possessions that they would absolutely kill and die defending. Anybody who tells you different is beyond ignorant to the facts of history.
Natives also originated the practice of scalping people, but because colonials did it as well it's actually recognized as barbaric, however it's usually pinned on the colonists who only did it because it was happening to them. Natives also practiced slavery before colonists even arrived.
People really don't realize how natives lived and the types of things they did before colonists showed up, and think colonists hated natives because they looked different, which couldn't be more incorrect.

I dont think people realize just how big the US is. Even today, only 6% of the land here has been developed. 6...percent. that includes all cities, towns, villages, roadways, farmlands, forestry, everything touched by human hands only takes up 6% of the land. The other 94% is completely untouched. So think back 400 years ago, it was a fraction of a percent being occupied. The settlers didnt kick anyone off "their land" ...unless they were prevoked, they didnt mess with people on a large enough scale to be worthy of national debate today.

There's a place in South Dakota called Crow Creek where archaeologists found the scalped and mutilated bodies of some 486 men, old women and children. There were no bodies of any young women because they were taken. Gee, I can't imagine why all those young native warriors would steal only the young girls, can you? Anyway, the entire tribe had been wiped out likely over what archaeologists believe was arable land and resources__"better hunting grounds" as the "natives" might put it. This kind of massacre took place frequently between the tribes, but you should know that this single massacre occurred some 150 years BEFORE any adventurous conquering European ever introduced themselves to this continent. When the tribe of conquering Europeans showed up in what we now call the Americas they found that native tribes were in perpetual battle with each other over land, resources and, of course, boundaries (borders). I find it very hypocritical that today's native descendants and their hypocritical supporters seem to believe that it was perfectly fine what their ancestors did to each other back then__stealing land, resources, enslaving other tribes and taking young women and children from other tribes etc.. Oh, but when a stronger and more advanced tribe shows up and does the same thing (Karma?) somehow it's "stolen land", "racist" and "genocidal", right? Funny how in some peoples minds they manage to square such bias and hypocritical thinking, isn't it?

New England was settled primarily by those fleeing persecution. They were not motivated by greed so were willing to live with and cooperate with the natives. Canada also experienced quite peaceful interactions with the natives as well since it was mainly the fur trade that attracted settlers there. When cash crop farmers settled further south to grow cotton and tobacco as export crops that the real problems began since those industries required huge swaths of land and those more hospitable climes where much more densely populated than the sparsely populated north. Conflict became inevitable.

Back in time you had to defend your land.
And there's no special waterrule because you have seen a satellitephoto in modern time.
Ships could come over oceans/water if people could build them.

History has proven that not all cultures are the same, and they seldom coexist.
The arrival of European Christians to North America was the best thing that could have happened to it.

I’m white and Choctaw. I live in Oklahoma. I grew up 10 miles from a reservation. I work for a tribe. All that said, I think we’ve acknowledged the horrors of the past repeatedly. I’m tired of hearing about it every time I want to celebrate with my family.

Less than 10% of the indigenous Americans who survived the massive genocide, disease and racism had a huge complaint over the many races that came or were brought to the Americas. However, those people are gone. So are the people that committed atrocities. It was unfortunate that the indigenous peoples held land as territories. That made it easy for Europeans to enact their own style of land ownership and overrun the land.
Now is the time for all of us to come together and build our lives together. I have ancestors from all sides of this issue, So I cannot be a victim without pointing at my other side. ❤❤❤

While I lived on the Navajo Reservation I learned that the Navajo people originated in what is now NW Canada and Alaska, and didn't move into their current territory until after 1350 C.E. They learned farming from the Pueblos, sheep herding from the Spaniards, and textile work and pottery from the Hopi. Both the Pilgrims and the proto-Navajo thus migrated over 3000 miles from vastly different foreign lands and cultures to settle in the "New World." My point is that the Navajo only occupied their land for about 200 years before the Spaniards encountered them, and the Navajo had in fact moved into lands already settled by the Hopi and the Pueblos.

"There should be acknowledgement" Yes, he's done that in this conversation multiple times and every discussion on the subject aswell. If acknowledgement is enough for people like this, the conversation would've been over decades ago.

Being born here. I can see my land. And say, this land is my land, our land. Those who fought to be here. We are the Native Americans. No such thing. We grew a society based on freedom

She freely admits that the "Native Americans" were the first ones here, (which one could argue against), but where did they come from ? Once upon a time did they not immigrate to and colonize these lands themselves ?

Sarah Josepha Buell Hale wrote to Lincoln about having a day of Thanksgiving. She was the writer of Marry had a Little lamb and from my home town of Newport NH. She is the originator of Thanksgiving and the reason for it.
