Hence, the salary he would have collected was way less than the amount he made off the government. That was a part of the plan, forfeit the presidential salary as a distraction to overcharging and making more money off taxpayers. It is very important to learn the facts by ready for yourself.
That was nothing compared to the millions he made from foreign governments while president. And it’s not even proven that he donated ALL of his presidential salary. Only some is accounted for.
I think the problem isn't whether one profits or not, but whether those riches were earned through honest means. Corruption is the problem, not the money.

The first question should be “why did the person’s net worth increase?” If you have massive wealth and do nothing but accrue interest, your wealth increased. If your company happens to be doing very well, then your wealth increased. The point is whether or not you abused your position to accrue that wealth. Like deregulating when it benefits your company, investing in an industry that you are directly responsible for regulating, etc. There’s a reason why politicians generally gain wealth after getting into office.

I'm surprised that so many people are coming around to the view that Obama was hardly a great president. He was at best a middling one. His peace prize was emblematic how so much was just handed to him that he never earned and never would earn. He started many of the issues we are facing today regarding improper use of government agencies to attack political opponents. He just had the misfortune of having a press corps that still somewhat cared about the news. The problem is that a lot of the gain is legal but not ethical. Politicians often get "book deals" worth millions and other "legal" means that are clearly in exchange for something.

Young man, I am 58 now, was in college in the 1990s, bachelor's and 2 masters degrees, and don't think I had a real clue until late 30s.
Consider this:
* Trump is a billionaire.
* Trump left the focus of his time making that kind of money💸💰 in order to accept a job in the WhiteHouse making $250 thousand per year * 4 years = only $1 milion.
* if you study economics then you know about Opportunity Costs. That is the money you lose choosing Option A over Option B. Trump paid for his own campaign, unlike the rest who get SuperPac corporate donors. HUGE SACRIFICE.
* Over those 4 years, how many $100s of millions could he have earned in his businesses? He took a $250k / year job.
Other than media I think that would be our second biggest problem is that saying that you were maybe teens and don't know nothing are children should be learning the basic in and outs of government and politics starting in 6th grade. I went to a low income minority school and if you applied yourself you learned these things. We had mock elections, supreme court cases, etc. And it should continue into college regardless of major! I think everybody should have to take a small Civic, government, political party test before you can vote. Especially immigrants! I recently took some free online tests and different things to see where I felt politically and found out I've been voting on the wrong side my whole life, just because that's how my family voted . Sadly for decades we've been voting for the side that's been purposely holding us back

I am 58 years old and I wonder how the younger generation thinks sometimes because it seems they don't research to find truths and facts for themselves and just believe things with no proof so I appreciate your honest thoughts on the videos you share. It helps me to understand what is going on in colleges these days. The generational gap is hard to decipher because when we were young and heard things or had questions, our parents made us go to the library or read all of the new outlets available to find out the truth for ourselves. Everything was about learning so we could be successful adults. Then again, back then, journalists had to verify their sources before printing anything to make sure it was true or the paper could get sued. I am not exactly sure when that changed to them being able to print whatever they want even if there is not an ounce of truth to it, but it is one of America's great downfalls because I see how the younger generation could be confused and misinformed. One problem with govt officials profiting off of their positions is lobbyists...they will pay officials to make laws that benefit their causes and corporations. So, instead of working for us, the citizens, they're working for lobbyists.
Lobbyists actually write or help wright a lot of laws, supposedly because they have a greater understanding of the issue. If the congress person or senator is ethical this can streamline the issue and bring good information and perspective to the table. Unfortunately, these possible benefits require genuine ethical collaboration and due diligence on the part of our elected officials. If you think that’s rare, I believe you would be correct. Money talks!
