I'm so glad I grew up in Hollywood in the 70's. Got to play in these caves a bunch when I was young. Even climbed on the the L's on the original Hollywood sign. Used to party at the old Errol Flynn mansion site at Fuller Estates.

History: In 1903, the Union Rock Company founded a quarry, originally named Brush Canyon, for excavation of crushed rock used in the construction of city streets-carried out of the quarry by electric train on the Brush Canyon Line. The quarry ceased operation in the late 1920s, leaving the caves behind.

Hi Spa Guy and Trey, I had no idea that the cave had been closed for safety issues. I grew up watching Adam West and Burt Ward as Batman and Robin so I really enjoyed this report. As Batman would say... " You've done it again old chum".

Not too many years ago the Cave had Squatters living inside of it I had read or heard that someone was Exploring it and they found mattresses on the floor that people were using to sleep on ?

Is it worth stopping in Tupelo?
Yes Tupelo in some ways is more fun than Memphis as it is clean and not dangerous.. Stay close to the Guesthouse in Memphis but make sure you do not leave anything in your car than can be seen. They are breaking into cars at the Guesthouse and in the parking lot across the street too.
@SpaGuy Man, so there's no security at the guesthouse? Did I make a mistake planning this? I know Memphis is sketchy. My thinking was that graceland would be better than your description.
There is security ast both places but they evidently are not much good..
I had a guy tell me they walked to a BBQ joint right down the street from Graceland during the evening hours and when they were leaving at dark the BBQ staff said are you walking and when they replied yes the BBQ joint said we will drive you back to your hotel free of charge. Get in now !!!

Me and my wife were lucky enough to visit this location before it closed. When I knew we were planning a trip to LA this was on my hit list of must sees. I understand they also filmed some of Star Trek at this location as well.

I think there was a scene in the sci-fi show "V" where there was an exchange of hostages in a long cave that looks very much like this one.
I work in Hollywood from 64 to 82. I worked in Bronson Canyon three of four different times. I was an extra on the Batman TV show.

14 miles to Gotham City think my excitement would be gone by that time. I can see 5 miles from the city and still be in the mood but 14 the villain's would be long gone by the time you got into the city.

Many, Many sci-fi TV shoes and movies were filmed in Bronson Canyon.
The cave rescue in the pilot episode of Emergency was filmed there.they added a false front and strung lights inside but the actual in-cave shots were done elsewhere.only the exterior was used.the whole area was filled with fire apparatus.

Last time I was there you could go inside. Probably better they sealed it up. My sister lives down the street from the location.
I remember them filming a couple of episodes of V the final battle. They did a prisoner exchange through this cave

If I remember correctly, a few episodes of the original Mission Impossible series were also filmed at the cave.
Given the degrading conditions in the area I wonder if Elvis would have remain there. What a shame.
Lol I remember climbing around those hills as a kid. We would climb down from the top to the left of the cave to play in it. I don't think any of us knew it was the batman cave, I sure didn't. Lol. To use it was just a little cave in no where. Nobody was ever there when we went to play there. I guess we just got lucky. Lol.

The Batmobile rises from a hidden elevator in the floor of the middle of the cave and the safety fence moves out of the way as needed.

I really though there are a lot more then a basic lava tube that turn in a cave. I have BATMAN DVD BOX SETS its not the COMPLETE SERIES BOX SER it goes SESION 1 PART 1 then the next volume SESION 1 PART 2 then the next one SESION 2 PART 1 then SESION 2 PART 2 then foolow up with the last one COMPLETE SESION 3 any way about the BAT CAVE I though there is a lot more to it. a big giant cave with all the computers reactor and all kinds of big giant equipment all that crime fighting stuff to help solve cases and a parking lot for the BATMOBILE I guess after watching your video I guess that fimed all of that in another location.

No the part you walk up to from the path down the mountain is definitely the side the Batmobile came out of..
Burt Ward got beat up a lot on the original Series Adam West told a story about the Bat Cycle they had he said on the Motorcycle they had a button to release the Side Car from the Bike Burt would be in the Side Car and they never knew where the thing was going to go or what it might crash into Adam said Burt would get banged up pretty well on those days he said the Motor Yule itself basically operated like any Motorcycle and he himself was a Seasoned Rider who had owned his own personal Motorcycles he rode to Commute to and from work Burt would get bandaged up by Medics they kept on the Set
