The Taliban are predominantly Pashtun, but they also include members from other ethnic groups such as Tajiks, Hazaras, Uzbeks, and Turkmen. Gender segregation is a prevalent practice across various Afghan cultures and ethnicities, unless they have been liberalized. Generally, urban populations in Afghanistan tend to be more liberalized compared to rural areas, regardless of ethnicity-be it Pashtun, Tajik, Hazara, or Uzbek. For instance, visiting a Tajik family in rural areas may reveal similar gender segregation norms as observed in Pashtun communities.
Gender segregation in Afghanistan is not only cultural but also perceived as Islamic. The Taliban assert that they promote religious responsibilities rather than enforcing cultural practices. This practice finds acceptance among both liberal and conservative families. Many less educated families, including farmers from diverse ethnic backgrounds such as Pashtuns, Hazaras, Tajiks, Uzbeks, and Turkmens, prefer their women to remain at home and take care of the household. Therefore, the Taliban do not enforce Pashtoon culture on other ethnic groups.
The four decades of wars in Afghanistan have significantly affected women's education, particularly because the majority of the Afghan population resides in rural areas, which have been heavily affected by conflict. Even men had limited access to education in these regions. In contrast, urban areas provided more relaxed conditions and greater educational opportunities, leading to higher levels of education among women in cities. Many Taliban members originate from rural villages characterized by extreme poverty and lack formal education. When they come to cities, they often experience cultural shock, as they are unaccustomed to the fast-paced urban life, crowded environments, and the rigid schedules of typical 8-to-4 workdays, often commuting by bus.
In Pashtun culture, honor, particularly concerning women, is deeply rooted in traditional values and societal expectations. Pashtun society places a strong emphasis on the concept of "namus" or honor, which encompasses a range of principles including chastity, modesty, and the protection of family reputation.
Key aspects of women's honor in Pashtun culture include:
      1. Chastity and Modesty: Women are expected to maintain their purity and modesty, particularly before marriage. Any perceived loss of chastity can bring shame not only to the woman but also to her entire family.
      2. Family Reputation: The honor of the family is closely tied to the behavior and actions of its female members. Any behavior deemed inappropriate or scandalous can tarnish the family's reputation in the community.
      3. Purdah: This refers to the practice of female seclusion or covering. In traditional Pashtun society, women are often expected to observe purdah, which involves dressing modestly and avoiding unnecessary interactions with men outside their immediate family.
      4. Protection and Authority: While there are expectations placed on women regarding honor, there is also a corresponding responsibility among male family members to protect and uphold the honor of their female relatives. This can sometimes lead to strict control over women's behavior and mobility.
It's important to note that while these cultural norms persist in many Pashtun communities, attitudes and practices can vary widely depending on factors such as urbanization, education, and exposure to different influences. Please note that these cultural practices also exist in other ethnic groups.
Gender segregation practices can be found in other cultures and religions worldwide. For example, Orthodox Jewish communities practice gender segregation in family gatherings and even on buses in Israel, rooted in traditional interpretations of Jewish law (Halakha) regarding modesty and gender separation in religious settings.
Similarly, some conservative Christian communities may practice gender segregation in church services or educational settings based on their interpretations of biblical teachings concerning gender roles. In certain Hindu communities, gender segregation may be observed in religious ceremonies and temple spaces, although practices can vary widely based on regional and traditional influences within Hinduism.

I agree with Carrie’s perspective and her concern with the issues of gender as she experienced. Afghan women can now claim their inheritance and many are. There is no human trafficking of women as they had a high rate of for the past 40 years. The begging women have been helped from the streets. There no more rapes and molesting of girls as was a huge problem in the past. widows are being helped in all parts of Afghanistan. The female government workers and others from the past are given salaries while at home. I agree there are many things that need to be worked out, but we must give credit to what has been done. Also the western countries have tried to sabotage and cause problems thru women’s groups

It's mind boggling why would they be so aggressive to women there. I'm trynna be religious as well. And quite literally celebrated their liberation with my relatives when Us had to run away from there.
I wish nothing bad upon them.
Bt what version of Islam are they implementing now. When they initially banned little girls from going to school i was weirded out but was not outraged as i thought it's for the betterment of their generations. Maybe they want to build enough gender segregated institutions and they maybe don't have enough resources to do so. I still blv this might be the case. Bt the fact that they have their country filled with tombs and shrines basically sufi kinda people, it scares me that they might view women as lower than them to the point that they don't hesitate restricting women from their right which by the way is given by Allah.
In Bangladesh there are speakers who literally pick on women for doing the simplest things. One time a "huzurc was saying ," Oh look at her, she literally jumped in the swimming pool". Like wut? A woman can't then? Is she allowed to breath or something?
These huzurs are in reality businessmen mostly, with distorted aqeeda, can't recite verses with proper tajweed, always makes a common enemy to bash on, many even talk explicitly about s*xual activities all while demeaning the honour of women in general forgetting that your and my moms are as well women. Tbh i won't tolerate a man talking this explicitly even a non muslims woman cz of my own dignity and the honour Allah has given her as a human being.
Such "speakers" sometimes also venerate dead people in their graves. I can just wonder why they hate women while Allah has honoured both men and women just in different terms.
      My gheerah could never

Carrie is very truthful, Alhamdulillah. For those who are saying that she is criticizing Muslims, please listen to her better. She is telling the truth and Muslims also do make mistakes. Therefore, we HAVE TO also criticize when our Muslim brothers make a mistake instead of being biased. Besides, Islam and many classical scholars in Islam also encourage women's education. Why reject it simply because we feel intimidated by educated women due to our desires to always feel superior? Don't we know that in Islam men are not superior in all of the cases? Do we not know that it is Allah who chooses the gender but not people? Why should we make women feel inferior or discriminated? Let's be honest and learn to admit when we as muslims make mistakes and go to extremes. After all. we don't own women as men. It is Allah who does, so we have to fear regarding opressing them.

Actually Pashtun women dress very colorful. Look at the famous Afghan dress online (often shown in Instagram) - that is Pashtun attire. Also, Pashtuns have rich poetic and Pashto folk songs culture and Attan is famous Pashtun dance. I think Carrie still only saw very little and the conclusions she drew are not all correct but good on her for trying.

carrie got most her info about afghanistan from a paki pashtoon guy before visiting, what do you expect from here conclusions coming to afghanistan with those preconceived notions...pashto isnt that rich in poetry, as farsi is. pashto reminds me of urdu too much. taliban are trying so hard to increase its prevalence.

Pashtun = Taliban. The Pashtun have ruined Afghanistan by not allowing women to pursue higher education and there is corruption everywhere. Any money goes straight to the Taliban's drug addiction or whatever terrible thing they can get their hands on. Forced marriages with strangers, daughters being forcibly taken away by the Taliban, the list goes on.

❤Assalamwalaikum sister, Thank you for not editing the video. We all have to understand that islam is perfect but muslims are not. Culture of the world is still oppressing the muslim womens all over the world. They always want to ask us how old was Aisha (ra) when she married Muhammad (saw) but what they never talk about is, Aisha (ra) was one of the most prominent scholar of Islam after Rasulullah (SAW) and more then 40% of islamic jurisprudence depends on her teaching about what she learned from Rasulullah (SAW)...
And BTW i am a Bangladeshi and i am so proud of it. I love my country so so much, but i hate the government 🇧🇩🇦🇪🇺🇲

People of any religion are not perfect but with Islam you get more negativity towards other religions because of Islam by calling them Kafirs. I would like any Muslim person to tell me a single verse in the Quran that is positive towards Kafirs who by the way were made by the same creator. If you look at it logically, why would anyone create 80 percent of the world population who are non Muslims for the very purpose of sending them to the hell fire. It does not make any sense.

In simple term a kifir is the one who don't believe in a creator a kafir believes there is no creator. And as far as I understand from your name in your profile is that you are a Hindu, brother did you ever read your main religious text the "vedas"? It says in the "vedas" that our creator is only one (singular) and he doesn't have any shape or form and he doesn't have any gender, and we are not supposed to worship anyone or anything but that one being. Now I ain't gonna ask you why all the Hindus worships multiple deities because if you are educated enough and if you are a rational human being then you will understand it yourself after reading your religious texts. So I'll strongly suggest you to read the whole "vedas" and the "upanishads". And then you can read the "puranas" if you can get your hend on it... Please read them with open mind and ask Our Creator to guide you to the truth before and while reading it

Assalamualaikum, I am Eng Haroon from Afghanistan. your discussion was nice. But, you didn't explain everything perfectly. Afghans are real federated people in Islamic countries. They don't allow un-Islamic traditions. Now we have the best security situation and perfect freedoms for us according to Islamic Sharia. We can't apply Western rules in our country and we have Islamic regulations and our own culture of living.
I have one question for all people Muslim and non-Muslim, why do we apply others' rules and lifestyles in our society? why other countries and people don't use our cultures and rules in their society?

We want girls to be educated
They should have modest jobs because there are things that only women should do
Pashtuns of Pakistan came from Afghanistan but very before by ancestry and some freshly but many illegal
Its a culture in Pashtun that for the safety of his wife he lets her to be the queen of house and goes out for work to get income
As per for doctors 🥼 there should be female doctors only for women because women knows a women better
Afghanistan 🇦🇫 will improve if ALLAH wills and InshALLAH education for girls and boys will get common
Co education is unacceptable because i spent three grades in my teenage in co education in Pakistan and i saw Pashtun boys and girls getting into a haram relationships
So being separate makes respect for other ❤
