- 🎵 Nearer My God to Thee - Organ Performance by Manuel Böhm 🎵
I'm back in the amazing Gothic "Elisabeth Church" in Marburg. It is the oldest Gothic church in Germany and was built between 1235-83 over the grave of Saint Elisabeth (1207-1231). Due to the burial place of Saint Elisabeth, the church was formerly a pilgrimage church and served as the burial place of the Hessian landgraves and was an important church of the Teutonic Order. The church's old choir room is currently being restored.
Today I'm happy to introduce you to my arrangement of "Nearer My God to Thee", a Christian hymn by Sarah Flower Adams from the 19th-century that retells the story of Jacob's dream from Genesis 28: 11-12. The hymn was originally set to music written by her sister, Eliza Flower, but another hymn-tune called “Bethany” written by Lowell Mason in 1856, has become most widely recognized and is most familiar to listeners today.I hope you like the huge and long crescendo as well as the quiet ending where I played the melody with the pedals.

Your playing was both powerful and delicate. Simply amazing!
@@SacredSongsandMore-sh8kt Many many thanks! Glad to hear you like it🙏🎶🤗
Considering the pitch black night, people screaming for their lives deep within the ship beneath your feet, the pitch rising ever higher and more angled, and the band in resignation switches from popular tunes to this moving, deep hymn. The Titanic has moments before her final death, you as well, and as you slip into eternity, the simple string music fades into this mighty organ roaring, filling the Heavens with praise.
@@noahpruitt9245 Thanks! I really appreciate that!🙏🤗
Glad to hear that you like it☺️🎶
You said it! Although some testimonials also say the band also played a favourite of mine, Abide with Me, I'm not in the slightest bit religious, but I listen to this tune when I feel anxious.
@@UnearthlyChild757 'Abide with me' ist a wonderful hymn ☺️🎶
A video will come by the end of the year...
Stay tuned 🤗🎶
Oh how beautiful. The gentle quiet ending was such a nice touch. Thank you for all the information about the church and the song. That organ sounds wonderful and you do it justice with your skills.
@@user-ph6yh4hs9z Thank you very much! Glad you like it! 🙏🎶🤗
Jour performance is soul mover, reminding many stories: historical as country, continent, familly tails. Some, never told jet.
@@MariaB.-ht3xt Thanks. I really appreciate that🙏🎶🤗

Beautiful!
Do you have sheet music for this?
@@bennie_ Thank you very much!🤗🙏

Hi Manuel, I’m creating a playlist titled "Great Organists / Great Pipe Organ Music" and would love to include this video (or another one you’d prefer). May I have your permission to add it to the playlist? Thanks, John
Hi John,
Thanks for asking! I feel honored and would be very happy about it!☺🙏
Stay tuned,
Manuel🎶
B flat major instead of f?
* A flat actually
@@Brandon_501 A flat major is correct. It's not a key you hear every day:) In my opinion, the key gives the piece something very calm and beautiful and fits it perfectly🎶😊
Don't bother
😕
