  • We spent a day in Foster Nebraska where several teamsters came with their horses and mules to spend the day at Bill Altwine's farm putting up loose hay using mowers, dump rakes, sweeps, an overshot stacker, hay loader and stationary hay press. A lot of the equipment was found by Kelly kloppenborg of Emmet, Nebraska, who restored it and keeps it in working order. Bill and Kelly have been putting on this hay day for many years. We'll have the full show in January on Rural Heritage on RFD-TV. In the meantime, here's some random footage from the day. #drafthorse #haymaking #ruralheritage

Great!!! But that's going to be a long wait till October t see more of this wonderful event. I put up a lot of loose hay in my life, but not with such sophisticated implements: horse-drawn mower, tedder, side-delivery rake and dump rake, and then the pitch fork were my tools.

Do they just leave the loose hay pile in the field?

Yes, if build correctly to shed water they last many years. Only the very top layer goes bad.
