The more confused I get about why the voice actor got fired the more I miss seeing the character in general.
Sarg and Caboose are both my favorite characters for these simple reasons: they’re simple.
Both know what they want and are both stupid in the most unique way possible.
Joel got fired because he was pro trump.
@@gamingwithjoseph714 I’ve heard everything of why he was fired: being pro trump, being rude to other employees, disagreeing with Black Lives Matter, just straight up not showing up to work, yet somehow I’ve not heard a single consistent story.
To which I don’t care at this rate, he’s gone and I’m 100% I’ll never know, so in that case I rather just enjoy the character he played for the moments it has brought me and just enjoy it.
@@PantherCat64 The current narrative is that he's a racist and evil. The only thing I've seen from his tweets that people bitch about has to do with guns. Gavin had his place broken into and he decided to hide in his closet. Joel suggested that he should buy a gun and learn to use it. This apparently pissed people off which isn't surprising since a lot of RT fans seem to hate guns.

Also I need to mention I find that last controversy hilarious, Rooster Teeth HQ is in Texas and everybody knows this.

Indeed. He should have tried his own spin on the voice, not try to replicate Joel's Voice.
I mean, Kellen Geoff has a unique voice, and even a method to voice act that isn't exactly replicatable, so Caboose's new VA shouldn't try to replicate Joel.
@@Victor-056 It's a lose lose, you change a voice that is as beloved and well known as Caboose, people will hate you for changing it, you try and replicate it and people will hate you for failing to capture what was a very odd and bizarre, but uniquely endearing voice over.
This video and it's comment section are proof enough of that, if it's not Joel Heyman, a good 90% of the audience is going to be upset and just hate on a guy who's doing an impossible job.
As far as I'm concerned, I agree with you, he should just try to be more natural with the voice over, but that will come in time, most of the RvB cast aren't professional VA's and did their roles with their normal voice, some with notable exaggeration, like Caboose, so trying to get that kind of inflection down in 1 season as opposed to the 13 odd Joel had to simply nail down a variation of his own voice isn't going to happen. I can definitely see him meshing with the role the longer he gets to cast as Caboose though.

Since Matt & Burnie are in charge of Season 19 again, I'd like to see them bring Joel back. I don't expect it to happen, but it'd make my day if it did. After season 19, they can be rid of him again for all I care; RvB's ending will lead to the end of RT anyway.

What I find the problem with the new voice actor is that where Joel would often string words together, the new VA always puts breaks between every word

@@systemshock1139 Thanks for the video. I heard from another comment that Joel was hard to work with, and the video pointed out that he may not have even been working. For those reasons I could understand why he was fired. If it was because they didn't agree with his politics though, then yeah that's not right. Also, who is/what happened to Ryan? I'm not really up on my Rooster Teeth lore.

Rooster teeth died a long time ago tried to do too much to fast. Expanding farther than they could maintain. Mix that with people leaving, getting fired and politics. RT and RVB died

@@PANCAKEMINEZZ I think it’s good they are going their own direction with the voice, while having someone who can do a good impression sounds like the right idea in theory, over the long term it’s better for a new unique voice.

After seeing Restoration it still doesn't feel right and doesn't even help Michael Malconian only played him 5 times with those being Death Battle, two PSAs, the QnA twice. But I get why Joel was fired ok it's just after seeing the movie it just doesn't feel right.

You understand while the previous one was the longest voice it wasn’t his first right? Look at season 1, he talks different and is a little bit smarter, he also didn’t speak anything like Caboose, the closest was that he spoke pretty slowly for the most part

The voice was different, yet the voice behind Caboose has always been Joel. Inflections, line delivery, all of that becomes erased when you introduce someone entirely new as a voice actor who has their own history, inflections, delivery, etc.
Not to mention, Caboose's voice changed due to the events that happened to him in the series, resulting in him becoming more airheaded. There's a lore explanation for that. There's no lore explanation for him getting an entirely new voice from an entirely different person.
@@miragemain105 Different voice, but it was the same voice actor. Look at the season 1 cast. He just changed his performance in later seasons. Like Ruby Rose in Volume 1. Still Lindsey Jones.

the entire situation with Joel is frustrating, I understand why they got rid of him but they were such total assholes about it that even hearing he was rooting for John McCain's cancer to kill him doesn't make Rooster Teeth seem that much better, since they basically dropped him without so much as a public statement and we found out through The Website Formerly Known As Twitter.
And the most frustrating thing is his voice was literally *perfect.* I feel bad for the new guy, cuz you can't out Caboose Joel's Caboose voice.
I wish the new guy the best of luck, but it will never be quite the same.

@@georgestanfordfromupstaten8106 That's the thing, we don't know for certain since RT didn't release a statement and Joel might be *kind of* an unreliable narrator for his stories on the topic, so most of what we can do is speculate. I'm inclined to believe it's a combo of him constantly saying stuff that could make RT's image look bad (rooting for McCain's cancer to kill him, telling Gavin he hopes an intruder breaks into his house and shoots him, etcetera ) as well as bullying and harassing coworkers and just not coming to work, since those are the few things we *have* heard. If that's true, then yeah I can see why they fired him. But the way they did it was so fucked up that it's easy to say they're assholes too- mostly because they were in fact being assholes too, RT basically recorded all the Caboose lines they could for some PSAs and then gave Joel the boot unceremoniously. So basically, Joel was fired because he was being an asshole and RT decided to be an asshole right back to him, like using gasoline to stop a kitchen fire then being surprised when it burns the rest of the house down with it.

@@Junkyardproduxtions Oh I never said they were equivalent, just saying this entire situation is ugly as fuck. Wishing death on someone is extremely ugly, firing someone who helped start the company and is a fan favorite voice is comparatively less ugly (by a whole lot imo) but still ugly. And the fact that no one else can Caboose like he can is right in the middle of the ugly sandwich, because it's a case where the character (in this case, Caboose) is entirely too wholesome for their voice actor and yet no one else can do him justice. It's just ugly on so many levels.

@@Borgron Based on what we know he became increasingly difficult to work with and would regularly not show up to work. He didn't do anything super controversial or anything but just was just not doing his job or meshing with the other people at RT anymore and had to leave.

The guy who used to play Caboose sounded incomprehensible in the later seasons and played up his stupidity to ridiculous levels. It was irritating to listen to and recasting him was a good decision cause the newer guy reads his lines with good diction. This is coming from a day one fan btw.
