I like it, just bought one and it is in like new condition. Saw some for sale on Ebay and they are pretty rough looking. Got tired of messing with junk like the Retevis TR-110's and the TR-113's they were a big fail. Didn't mind paying extra for a quality all band reciever.
The AOR 8600 is a fantastic receiver with outstanding sensitivity and selectivity. It even performs quite well on HF and LF if one is able to control overloading. Using the ATT and/or shortening the antenna does the trick.
I have one here and it's very good on VHF and UHF, but on MW it suffers badly when trying to retrieve a weak signal next to a big one. I think this is due to either second or third mixer overload because of a rather-too-wide final filter at the second IF of 45 MHz. Other than that it's pretty decent. HF is surprisingly good, although a preselector cleans it up.

Looks just like my AOR-8600 Mark 2 I bought in 2003, that's right, gonna be 18 years soon..... Great receiver...
I have one. It's a great unit and I enjoy using it. Thanks for the videos. Very informative.
It's a nice receiver, I got one of these last year and love it. I look forward to see your calibration video.

It lacks a lot of the basic hf features
Rf gain control etc.
A yupiteru mvt-7100 is going to pull in the same amount of signals for $130
I think the Yupiteru 7100 is the best performing handheld scanner on HF to date.
Does it have Phase 1 and Phase 2 and trucking can you also use it as a Fire EMS police scanner?
No trunking on these mate.
NICE
Het is radio is pretty capable what type of antenna would be best for this also Good at listening to airplanes Talking
probably a variety of antennas, A good hf wire and a discone for vhf/uhf should suffice though...
occasioinally impossible to hear what you say with the background noise. Turn off receiver while talking
