Gay!
Real music. Today's music is just noise.
This really takes me back to '89. I was fifteen. The year started out very rough for me, as I'd been expelled from high school in the tenth grade in January and temporarily went to a school for tough kids in West L.A.. Then I got back into the school I got kicked out of in the first place in '90. But what's great about this vid is it reminds you what life was like back in those days. The most sophisticated piece of technology any of us had in those days was cable TV with about 50 channels, few of them worth watching. In those days MTV played actual videos. Paula Abdul, Motley Crue, Guns and Roses, Madonna, Prince, INXS, etc. The world without the internet, without smartphones, is simply unimaginable to Generation Z. I'm not saying life was perfect in the 70s and 80s, but I'm grateful I got to be a kid in those decades. The 80s were the best. Period. I'm not just saying that because I'm sentimental, but they really were. People were not as hung up on BS and angry politics. You didn't hear about politics all the time then, and life was in many ways freer, or at least less neurotic.
Well stated!
There was internet back then…………..it just was very very limited compared.
For real even cable TV sucks now. I understand why tho because there main focus now is streaming services and stuff like that.
cool years. no internet, no smartphones, just raw reality.
And gang violence
And thats how I like it NES and GameBoy is all i needed not a phone
Kids in this gen won't know what to do if we go back to this lol
Why y’all acting like back then was just perfect my mom and dad and auntie and grandparents will break it down to y’all I’m one piece, Tupac, Drugs,Violence,Gangs, And many more
@@moneyblue8466 as if todays society is muuuuch better g, no year was perfect

"Send me an angel" I love that song!
From GTA V Non stop pop radio reference
"They painted that place again. I remember there were like, pictures of people on there. Not Anymore!" - Gilbert Arciniega Circa 1989.
I moved to Los Angeles on September 3rd 1989 from Indianapolis , I was 19 years old also. I celebrate the date every year as an anniversary. Wonderful memories , thank you so much.
KRISTINE NEFF if I was Left eye from TLC in my RUclips profile pic in 1989 would you take me to the rapper Eazy E house
KRISTINE NEFF Damn it's going to be a celebration soon!!!
Its almost 30 years! Nice
You regret moving to LA now bud ?
@@kaylaleave No. Los Angeles is still , in my mind , such a beautiful , paradise of a city. Moving to California was a childhood dream come true for me. I would tell family and friends of mine when I was a teenager that I was going to live in Los Angeles California some day and no one believed me . . . . . . 33 years later and counting look at me now ! If you've ever had the misfortune of having to endure a long , cold harsh , winter in freezing cold and snow you definantly understand why Los Angeles is a welcoming change. I try my best not to take for granted that to people living in other parts of the country , L.A. California is indeed paradise.
I lived in the Inland Empire from 1985 to 1992. I was 12 at that time in 89. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I was 13 in ‘89… man these videos are time capsules… I really miss those days… good to hear KOST .. it’s still the same til today
That's exactly what I was thinking! KOST still sounds exactly like this.
That's the 60 frwy headed west for the first few minutes. I love the music on the radio. Brings back so many memories. I was 11 when this was filmed lol. And was always back and forth on that 60
I was 20. Many fond memories of that year.
Beautiful. I love those "road movies" as they remind us what life really looked like back then.
That literally was a blast to the past
Awesome!!!
Thank you for the memories. Reminded me of when we took trips from Redlands to Los Angeles during the 80’s.
Love these old school videos reminds me of simpler times thank for sharing brings back memories 👍🏼🎥
Your videos are very therapeutic to me Gilbert...it time warps me back to a simpler time...thank you for all you do .

I love your videos man. I wish I could've grown up around the same time as you. Unfortunately I'm a 90's baby. Born in 1996 in Los Angeles, CA lol
Keep up the videos dude!
Thank you very much. It's what I do best!
19 eh? I was that age back in 2000. That's when I first saw LA.
@@nocturnalemission6822 good for you bro
Same! I love the 80s
1989, the last year of carbureted vehicles and the rise of fuel injected vehicles. Probably the last time you will ever see 70's and some 60's vehicles still on the road before being phased out in the 90's.
What’s the difference between those two types of vehicles?
There was a 50's station wagon parked when they turned left at one point also
what? in the early and even late 90's cars from the same era were carbureted. I own literally one if you look on my channel you can see my 98 camry. where you alive during this time? fuel injected came pretty much standard in the 2000s.
@@Ghosts-jx7dw Camry in usa had standard fuel injection as of 1992.
Deuterium Meridian no it didn’t, look at my RUclips channel it’s carbureted. I own the car kiddo.
Man it feels like I was in the front seat... I was born and raised in La Puente in 1977, raised in the 80’s, wouldn’t trade those memories for anything! Thanks for the video
Loved 1989. Fun year!!!! I was 19. Things were so much better back then!!!
I was 30 then, with no time in LA until 2009, 20 years later.. Thanks for the time machine ride along!
Cool video! I remember those water bottles!
3:15 "Kost 103 the station you hear at stores and offices...EVERYWHERE"
Ain't that the truth...
I really enjoy your videos. I grew up in the San Dimas- La Verne area. I was 20 years old when you made this video. Thank you for sharing your awesome videos!
I lived in Woodcrest California around this time in 1989!! I was 4 years old then!! lol
Wow, I had just graduated high school and just a couple weeks before I went to Marine Corps boot camp. Growing up a few miles away from West Covina, this video brings back a lot of memories...
Your video for some reason makes me appreciate even more everyday I'm alive today cuz once your day is over that's it no going back it's done with
Great music playlist , Gil.
It’s like you saw how precious and amazing these videos were gonna be for future generations. I’m gonna start filming now so I can show me kids or other people what is was like for me in the 2000s
I did that in the 2000s as a teen glad i did :)
Born in the middle 90s in the ghetto parts of central California to a Latin fam we pretty much loved like this till 2003 grew up with that retro music, and traffic had the same cars cause no one could afford the new stuff and the city took for ever to get with the buildings updated, always felt connected to this era 😅
Life just looks so different through these videos its weird seeing the date with 1989 looking at all the people and surroundings elton john on the radio. Just a memory so long ago. No smart phones none of that shit just reality!
Amazing stuff, man! Thank you for recording this and for transferring and posting it!
This is awesome man, I was 7 in 1989 I'm from Chicago area and I remember driving around in my aunts stick
Shift Nissan Sentra. I totally remember those types of cars back then!! My dad had a 1989 Taurus and taping stuff with those huge camcorders, good times, thank you!!
Don nix My uncle had a four door Sentra, we all learned how to drive manual in that car.
I grew up in west Covina ❤️ this brought so much joy and nostalgia. I remember filming with my dad's VHS here and there. Wish those tapes would have been saved.
Power 106 - blaring from every Mexican car radio back then!
Micah Newman LOL
I wasn’t into Power 106.... I usually listened to KNAC back then.
KIIS FM was the best!
That and La X 97.9
What even were most of those artists they played? We called the genre "disco" back then. It wasn't Top 40 pop, because I've never heard any of it since. It's like it was all manufactured. It certainly all sounded the same.
I just started my freshman summer on June 29th 1989. Man what a time to be alive... And in SoCal which at that time was a complete paradise.
I was 12 back then. Happy times in the 80s❣️
Thank u for this video 🥰
Good stuff! Amazing, I love the 80’s! Thanks man! 😀
This time back then was way better than it is now! Funny how normal it is when making home movies then many years later it's like a time machine to take you back to that amazing place. I lived in laguna beach then in june 1989 me and my family moved to texas and that's where we lived ever since.
I really enjoyed your video and I subscribed to your channel I will watch your video's. Your Mom is the same age as me I hope she is in good health. I lived in San Diego in the 80's and it was bad enough driving there, but LA area fwy's always had traffic jams no matter the time of day. I can only imagine what they are like now, as I no longer live in California.
The US Bank Tower also know as the Library Tower was Completed in 1989 that Year after 2 Years of Construction that Building in the Middle in Downtown Los Angeles
Jody Watley with "Rakeem" 😂😎
That's pretty awesome that you even recorded the TV guide channel.
I moved to Cali in 1992 .. this brings back memories!! Certainly is a changed place now !! I’ve moved as of 6 yrs ..But nice trip down memory lane
My Fiancée who will be 32 in November was still growing in her Mommy’s tummy. She would love to see this video.😎
I had a car like this, and my radio was stolen. It was a 1989 Toyota Camry.
I lived in the west side of LA back then and worked in Century City. These were radio stations I listened to 32 years ago. Wow.
Thanks for the time machine sir.
This is a gorgeous time capsule.
Welcome to my time capsule!

Cool video!! 😍😍😍
great year 1989... I was 17 hanging wih my dj friends in orange county california. im glad those were my teen age years couldnt ask for a better time.
I remember the song send me an anger from the movie Rad. My brother and I used to watch that movie all the time.
1989 was a Awesome Year I was 6 years old
I love that skirt that your little sister Cynthia is wearing in the beginning of the video. That three teared skirt. Reminds me of 80's fashion.
I had a whole bunch of these 80's LA and Vegas road trip videos, until my ungrateful brat of a son stole them all and took em to my ex's house. My dad had a whole bunch of 8mm movies from the 50's and 60's, until some random dude broke into our house and stole all of them along with our projector. Cruel world.
The tallest building in DTLA (and west of the Mississippi) at the time was the Library Tower which made its debut around 1989. Technically it still is, but the Korean Airlines building is now the tallest.
In 1989 Honey I Shrunk The Kids was on the Big Screen in Theaters
Thats so funny was just watching that on Disney + good days
Indiana jones and the last crusade, Star Trek 5, tango & cash……89 was a good year for movies
Omg lol I was only 1 years old at this time fresh to the world makes me wonder how it was to be an adult during this time compared to what it’s like today
Beautiful picture on that camera. Most have been quite the piece of equipment for it's day
That was where i was living in that Era 😄 memories flashbacks 😆 🤣 power 106 lol
WOW so much less traffic on the freeways back then
This gives us the feeling of back in those days.
Chale.. you were well off... new car... video cameras were in the $1000s back in 89. I remember being dirt poor in Los.
The music 🔥the cars❤️🔥 so cool it’s like a time machine
Wow miss those days. So much. It's crazy
June of 89 I was at summer school at Immaculate Conception 7th grade on 7th and Union good times good times
A simple time ..very nice
Welcome to Los Santos
No traffic no homless no road rage....good times!!!!
OMG...I so remember the Cable TV schedule format at 0:45 !
thx,brother!
i luv music 80-90x!😸
I was 15 in 89 ‘ wow! Life was simple , listening and singing along to the tunes on the radio , no smart phone, no woke BS ! Fun times 😢miss those days
Gilbert dude! Flippin awesome home videos. Quick question : If you could go back in time, what would Gilbert 2017 tell Gilbert '89?
What a beautiful day that was from what I can see
Oh wow at the intersection off San Pedro and Washington the Shell Gas Station is now a Yoshinoya/Little Caeser's Pizza/ 7Eleven and Gilbert's side where Dolores Market is that building must have been torn down. Now it is a "El Gallop Giro" restaurant. And the Blue Line train now goes Washington. Funny to see no tracks in the street. Wally's Liquor store still looks the same even when we used to there when I was a kid in the 70's and 80's.
Alot of cool cars
We had an 87 Nissan Stanza! The Stanza became the Altima in the early 90’s.
Real Life "Send me an Angel" '89 version playing on the radio. What's with all the audio cassette tapes on the floor?
Excellent footage!
It's better there's no Internet back then.
No insecurities
No depression
No bitterness
No hatred
people are dying right now because of social media specially young ones.
Looks super fresh this video
2:50 that 3rd gen Camaro beautiful
Seeing all those cars from back then driving on the road is kinda interesting
When Send Me an Angel started it took me back to The Wizard's road scene lol
Beautiful 80s mustang and camaro
I forgot about the Stanzas. My friend had one in highschool around 98.
Los Angeles seems much better back then, today it's all polluted with air smog and traffic jams. :(
Uh, no. It may "seem" that way to you just from watching someone's home video but the reality is the exact opposite. I moved to SoCal from the Midwest in the late '70s. People complained just as much about traffic back then, and there were fewer freeways back then so to get across town you were more likely to have to resort to stop and go city streets. As for the smog situation, it's gotten much better since the '70s - '80s. There are written accounts of smog in the LA basin even back in the 1800s but it was at its worst from the 1940s - '90s. A popular humorous bumper sticker in the 1970s and '80s in Los Angeles said "Don't Trust Air You Can't See".
www.marketplace.org/2014/07/14/sustainability/we-used-be-china/la-smog-battle-against-air-pollution
www.kcet.org/history-society/how-los-angeles-began-to-put-its-smoggy-days-behind
Another big change is the crime rate was much higher in the '70s and '80s, too. It peaked in 1991 and now is about half of what it was then according to FBI crime stats. The homicide rate in LA today is a fraction of what it was in 1980.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_Los_Angeles
SteakburgerMaster It was more foggy in the 80s
only new freeways in the past 50 years are the 105 and OC toll roads
Those of us that remember know the smog was like 10 times worse then.
I know it. Right????
I used to listen to KOST 103.5....LOL
