As teens yall didnt think 32 years would go back so quickly. Although I just turned 16 it seems crazy how we always behaved the same as kids no matter when you were born
Edit: LA was a warzone at that time. Crazy to see how it looked in person
I was 23, and already out of the USAF, and working at LAX.
Great times.
Imagine showing young Gilbert this video
26:23 Gil has a gopro on his head and a hand held camcorder that’s awesome Gil you are a determined person
5:06 Gil is already speaking in terms of time machine
Let's get Gilly to 100k so he can just upload everyday
Brings back so many memories. I was born and raised for most of my youth at 35th and San Pedro. Right at that freeway entrance where the public storage is now is where my fathers building use to be before he sold the land to them. Then we moved to Rowland heights for 2-3 years and finally ended up in the IE since then.
Now thats what I call multitasking
Gil, this is the very first of your videos I ever saw. For some reason, this video came up on my recommendations, and because of my interest in Southern California history (note my You-Tube name), I watched it, and I have enjoyed your videos ever since. Thanks for all of your great chronicling of SoCal history! Many of your videos should be sent to a video archive so centuries from now people can see what life here was like.
it's a shame how many of those nice old gm, ford and chrysler daily drivers got crushed. It would be so awesome to have lots on the road again
Parts is the issue
@@chriswright8074 No, just people want the "new look", is all.
Back then, most of the automakers built everything using mostly generic mechanical parts: the front suspension on a 3-4 ton Chevy pickup, was the same as most of their cars. Same with their engines: you had the 4 cylinder "Iron Duke", the V-6, and the 350 and 454 V-8's, and that was it.
Same with Toyota...you have any idea how many different Toyota cars used the 22r engine?
Ford had their 2.3 4 cylinder, 2.8 V-6, 302, and 429 V-8's.
If a computer controlled anything, it was for fuel injection - but you could still make manual adjustments if you had to. Anybody with a $15.00 shop manual could work on their own cars.
Simple times.
I’m amazed that he still has the same camera and it still works
32 Years Ago. Tellin Ya!!!!! 🎥
So happy to see that car still being taken care of. Saludos from chile
Gil, you should have pulled into the driveway at 1:07:17 just like the 88 one haha. That would have confused the owners. :)
Gilbert, great video. It was nice seeing you drive buy the West Covina Fashion Plaza as it was called back then. I’m the 1988 video, you take the north off-ramp that goes round and then leads you to the underpass on Vincent. There’s a different off-ramp before that to go southbound on Vincent. But they did some construction on the freeway over the years. They took out that off ramp that you drive on and broadened the other ramp. The broadened ramp lets you turn left to go north on vincent or you can turn right to go south on vincent; before they had separate ramps for each.
Nowadays there’s a few office buildings near thet off-ramp you were on. There’s also an Edwards theater. Back then, there were small businesses and the buildings were really old, from the 50s at least. There was a place there where my sister and I would take swimming lessons. You can’t see it in your video because I think there was a tall chain link fence and hedges that blocked the view from the freeway.
That recent day was fun for me!
I'm tellin' ya!
So what else...
2020 is toxic and political
I’ll take 1988 anyday
Yup
Logic Seeker gilbert is brilliant
Yes💯 I Agree with you
Yeah The 80s life was easier without to depend on Internet for everything i miss mailing in and register in person than online
I only do paper work than internet and do everything in person mail registration in person and pay in cash i rather go to Malls its more fun than online shopping since it fails Mall Shopping Is Fun and I can get my purchases without Waiting
I miss traffic like that, I remember driving by the toysrus by the 10 and being super excited. It was one of my highlights every time we would go to LA.
that's cool but are you a time travelor? just wondering we didn't have You Tube back than and I was 8 lol no cell phones either WOW how much time changed and good to see you haven't seen any posts for a while
He recorded the clips.
Or i just dont get what u mean.
I guess he recorded them to know what happened in his past and when yt was made, he probably had a great idea and showed it to people on yt
Yet Again Another Great Video Gil 👍🏽💯
Thank you for the video Gilbert,
It brings a lot of memories, I have lived in this area sin since 1978.
Stay well.
Love the video in the end with the old school camcorder. Makes it feel hella vaporwave!
amazing, gil!!!!!
You put this video out on my birthday it is now 10:08 PM I have to stop at 30 minutes and continue tomorrow night because I have to work tomorrow. I like your videos.
I got pulled over on the 10 @ San Pedro in 1995
I love watching theese videos I love the old days and I just turned 30 I love the 90s
Gilbert: “Noisy cars, I hate that shit”
Me: Huh?
Funny thing is my dad moved to Vincent Ave & Arrow Hwy just three years after you left Vincent Ave & Edna Pl. If he had moved earlier or you had moved later maybe you guys would have seen each other, like at the 99 Cents Store on San Bernardino Rd.
(6:16 to 14:18) This has some cool catchy music tunes during the whole video.
Great from Brazil!
yes
How cool would it be if Gilbert encountered German in Venice? 2 famous youtubers in So Cal for an epic mind meld.
i would the imagine the conversation would go like:
GiV (in Arnold's voice): get in the choppa!!!
Gilbert: I'm tellin' ya!
love what you do gilbert
The Remake edition
Tremendous video Gilbert 💪😃👍
How much do them condos cost at 22:22? Good deals i bet
That music is so catchy! Lol
My dream truck a 1972 c10 that was on the side of the freeway...
So definitely less traffic back then?
What camera was this Gil?
That car sounds like an electric its so quiet!
Thank you! 👍
Looks way less crowded than it does today LOL
Gilbert gets Mad @ Noisy Cars.😂43:30 and 44:05. I hate that Shit too.😣
Video from 2020 in vhs makes La look old 😂
Rather go back to 1988 than now
Same im with you Life was simple in the 80s back then lots of people were more mature
@@coastercrafter1productions300 You could actually socialize with others without them being weirded out that you're talking to them.
"im tellin ya" 😁
You see how technology has been through from a Big Record camera to a Small Gopro. Wow
And the idea that even the cheapest cell phone in 2020 is 100 times better quality than the best super VHS camcorder back then
Hey
What'd he say at 4:03?
what ever happen to your carlota?
Gilbert I like how u dressed in the 80s :)
I like 1988 freeway better.
Be careful riding your bike on those roads Gil, those idiots didn't give you too much room on the road
12:40 48:58
Oh man gil you were in some ghetto ass areas. Lol be careful
Me : drive at 88 😯😊😊😊😊😊
Me : drive at 2020 🤔😐😡😢😠😷😞😧😦😥😵😨😴
Basically the cars style turns to trash
Great video gilly girl
Your videos are just AMAZIIIIING Gil , i'm so thankful for what you've done , you can't even imagine... those days were so good so cool , i'm born in 1992 but , i was young but so proud to belong to 90's one of the best decade ever if not the best ones for me .... i'm someone really nostalgic and nowadays everythings changed... You're great ....keep it up ans take care
Everyone is typically driving almost generic cars in 88. Hardly see a idiot street racer cutting through traffic with loud motor. Yup 88 was better.
Hey Gilbert I was at your aunt house last Saturday and it changed a lot plus I went to the LA Memorial Coliseum for a walk too just like your mom and your aunt 😃
Gilbert you should have played Company B - Fascinated. while driving towards the on ramp. like the old 1988 video
March 27 1988 I had turned 3 yrs old! 😵 Thank you for sharing Gil! ❤ from Southern Arizona 🌵🌞
Those magical tricks in the beginning were very epic
You and I would have been good friends if we were neighbors. You seem chill Non gangster in LA! I'm tellin ya!
When you look at videos like this, you understand why us Gen X-ers say that the world is going backwards: look at the streets today, versus the 1980's, and ask yourself "What happened?".
Your boss Gil. Thanks!
interesting
Gilbert that car is really special and I think you should not sell it it’s a very rare car to get nowadays and you should keep it for memories.
3:30 what’s the name of that white car?! It’s beautiful please !! Thank you 😊... And another awesome video Gilbert, always look forward to your uploads!
What’s the music around 9:45 by the way? Love it!!! Haha thank you😊
Mercury Marquis is the car at 3:30 😊
And its my favourite Car
Kayla Tolentino thank you soooo much!!! 😊😊
I was on Central and 22nd. This footage captured such an incredible time. I played for the Newton Police Dept. In 1993 and until 1997 went undefeated for year's. I was blessed to say I made it all the way to the NBA. Looking at this was one of the best times of my life. Thank you
those streets were cleaner in 1988 🙃
God I remember those crappy K-cars
Believe it or not, a lot of those crappy K-cars are STILL on the road!
I find it hard to believe myself, but then again, Lee Iacocca was behind those, and he knew what he was doing - though we did doubt him back then!
I like it
where is the video with original music in car??
Wow! Great video 💯
What’s the name of the song?
Is the car in the 88 part of the video also an ‘84 model?
1988 & 2020, when the Lakers and Dodgers were champions the same year.
You are right! What a coincidence!
Notice the railroad crossing is gone 57:42
It’s crazy how the streets have completely changed I always why but San Pedro street since I also went to that school in 2005 which is mind blowing 🤯
That Buick grand national at 11:01 my dream car
There’s another one at 44:37
11:40 I used to exit at Vincent to go to work for years.
50:56 Lisa's Coffee Shop too in Covina....There used to a bunch of Cats that lived in the parking lot
"I'm Tellin Ya"
hey Gil it would be really cool if you could visit some childhood destinations with your brothers and sister in a video!
I'm also glad you came to visit the West Cobina / Baldwin Park area!
These scooter vids of before and after have been great
I feel like I'm there
